Are you trying to come up with empty nesters travel ideas for your next vacation? I could give you hundreds of exciting options. However, one of the highest-ranking options is a luxury safari for couples. A couple’s safari vacation will have you venturing out on adventures, while still enjoying downtime and a little romance. There are plenty of luxury safaris for couples to choose from. Today, I am sharing the best safari adventures for couples. Some of them will include exclusive safari experiences, which I can include in your itinerary as I plan your trip.

Best Safari Adventures for Couples: Luxury and Romantic Getaways for Empty Nesters

Serengeti, Tanzania

If you have heard about the Great Migration, you probably aren’t surprised to see Serengeti, Tanzania at the top of my list of best safari adventures for couples.

This African safari for couples’ option is one of the most famous safari destinations in the world. Especially when the Great Migration takes place. That is when millions of gazelles, wildebeest, and zebras thunder across the plains towards greener pastures.

It is quite the sight, and sound. Which is why so many empty nesters choose Serengeti for their safari vacation.

Imagine spending a week, or longer, viewing an abundance of wildlife. Seeing open landscape for miles. And all while staying in luxurious accommodations. That’s right… You won’t need to sacrifice comfort or luxury amenities while on a safari in Serengeti!

Of course, it won’t be all about wildlife during your empty nesters vacation. Enjoy a private bush dinner under the African night sky. Light from nearby lanterns will dance in the background, as you listen to the sounds of the wild in the distance.

Oh, and if you want to take your safari adventure to the next level, consider a hot air balloon safari. Yes, you will need to wake up early for this sunrise adventure. But all will be forgiven once you see the panoramic views, as the sun begins to light up the morning sky. Plus, you get a champagne breakfast at the end.

Check out these other amazing destinations for empty nesters searching for a little adventure.

Masai Mara, Kenya – One of the Best Safari Adventures for Couples

Best Safari Adventures for Couples: Luxury and Romantic Getaways for Empty Nesters - The Great Migration in Masai Mara in Kenya

Masai Mara is another one of the best safari adventures for couples. Numerous exclusive safari experiences are available when you choose a safari in Kenya. Especially when you decide to add authentic Maasai culture to your itinerary.

This area is another excellent destination for witnessing the Great Migration. The best time to visit for this magnificent sight is between the months of July and October.

One of the best features of safaris in Masai Mara is you can enjoy a crowd-free safari at one of the private conservancies. This is perfect if you are truly searching for some alone time during your empty nesters vacation.

A unique safari experience in Masai Mara includes a Maasai led walking safari. Instead of riding in a jeep or other vehicle, you will spend a few hours walking through the bush. During this time, you will learn about local traditions, as well as the wildlife living amongst the bush.

Another fascinating option is a helicopter ride. A helicopter will take you high above Masai Mara to see stunning views of the savanna. Don’t forget your camera for this adventure, because you will never see anything more breathtaking.

Ranthambore, India – Unique Safari Adventure for Couples

India is not the first destination many people think of when it comes to safari vacations. However, it should be at the top of your safari vacation list for couples if you want to see tigers in the wild.

Ranthambore National Park is full of ancient ruins and dramatic cliffs. And amongst those cliffs and ruins are tigers roaming in the wild. I recommend allowing me to schedule a private Jeep safari while visiting this park. This ensures you receive a private guided tour to search for the Bengal tigers. Plus, you’ll be able to ask more questions without being interrupted by other visitors.

When you are not exploring the park, you can visit nearby temples and forts. This will give you a well-rounded vacation filled with adventure and history.

Empty nesters can rediscover their wild side while vacationing in these incredible destinations.

Bwindi Impenetrable Forest, Uganda

Best Safari Adventures for Couples: Luxury and Romantic Getaways for Empty Nesters - Gorillas in Uganda

Gorilla trekking safaris are slightly different than other safaris around the world. On these best safari adventures for couples, you will see mostly endangered mountain gorillas. This is one of the safaris you should consider if you love gorillas and don’t mind missing out on seeing the Big Five.

During this couple’s safari vacation, you will discover a deep connection with nature. Especially if you take a private gorilla trekking tour of the rainforest. These private tours will take your safari experience to the next level.

Of course, you don’t need to skip romance and downtime when on your safari vacation. I recommend adding a forest spa treatment to your itinerary. Most of the treatments take place in a lodge that overlooks the rainforest.

And at night, relax by the fire, as you sip on a glass of wine and talk about the adventures of the day.

Okavango Delta, Botswana

You won’t see the Big Five during a safari in the Okavango Delta. However, you will discover elephants, hippos, crocodiles, and too many bird species to count.

This exclusive safari experience will have you riding in a traditional mokoro, which is a dugout canoe. The mokoro will take you along the winding channels of the delta for a peaceful safari experience.

At the end of the day, relax and drink champagne on a sunset boat cruise. All while watching elephants wade through the water nearby. Then take an outdoor bath before going to sleep under the stars on your rooftop bed.

My travel tips for couples vacationing as empty nesters.

Sabi Sands, South Africa

The last of the best safari adventures for couples is Sabi Sands in South Africa. This area is next to Kruger National Park. And it is one of the best places to see lions, leopards, elephants, rhinos, and buffaloes. Basically, the Big Five everyone wants to see when they decide to take a safari vacation.

Off-road driving is popular in Sabi Sands. While you can venture out in groups, I highly recommend the private game drives. This ensures you spend time in areas you want to and move on when you are ready to see something different.

Many of the luxury lodges in Sabi Sands offer spa treatments, private decks, infinity pools, and candlelit dinners under the stars.

Check out the other reasons why you should embrace empty nesters travel.

I would love to know which one of these best safari adventures for couples is at the top of your list. Let’s chat about your safari options, or wherever your dreams may take you for your next empty nesters vacation. Click here to schedule your personalized planning session. It is simple to schedule your session for a time that is most convenient for you.

There is nothing more intriguing than a safari vacation. Especially when you choose to take that safari in Kenya during a family vacation. Safaris are one of the best ways to make memories with your entire family. During your trip to Kenya, your family will see tons of wildlife. Some of the wildlife will be quite up close, where you will feel like the wild animals are part of your safari group. Today, I am sharing a sample itinerary for an intriguing safari experience during a family vacation in Kenya. Your family’s itinerary may look different since I will personalize it according to your vacation wants and needs.  And there are so many family friendly things to do in Kenya, I won’t blame you for wanting to add them all.

10 Day Amazing Safari During Your Family Vacation in Kenya

Day One: Nairobi

Day one of your intriguing safari family vacation in Kenya will begin with you landing at the airport and being taken to your hotel. You will have the rest of the day to relax and get used to your new surroundings. That also includes getting up to speed in a new time zone.

Use this time to take a few family photos. Maybe even start a journal to record everything you experience together as a family.

Day Two: The Ngong Hills

Your entire family will feel like a native today as you travel towards the Ngong Hills. You will see an old colonial farmhouse that Karen Blixen lived in. You’ll have the chance to wander through the gardens before going to the Giraffe Centre. There you will see the Rothschild giraffe living its best life.

Day Three: Nairobi and Amboseli

You will leave early today for your trip to Amboseli National Park. I recommend flying, as it will get you there much faster. Once you have arrived in Amboseli, you will be taken to your hotel to check in. During the drive to the hotel, you will be taken on your very first game drive.

Don’t worry, you will have another game drive after lunch. So, if you don’t see much during the first one, the second one shouldn’t disappoint.

Day Four: Amboseli National Park

10 Day Amazing Safari During Your Family Vacation in Kenya - Elephants in Amboseli National Park

This entire day will be spent inside Amboseli National Park. Your guide will show you the popular sights within this park, while also pointing out the wild animals you see along the way. A couple of the animals you might see include hyenas, cheetahs, wildebeest, and zebras.

Day Five: Amboseli and Samburu

Day five of your safari family vacation in Kenya will be a busy one. After a delicious breakfast, your family will be whisked away for one last game drive before being taken to the airport. At that point, it will be time to fly to Samburu for the next portion of your vacation.

Day Six: Samburu National Reserve

Your first full day in Samburu National Reserve will be full of game drives. You can choose not to go on one, but I don’t recommend doing that. The reason I don’t recommend it is you know the one game drive you don’t go on will be the one with the most action!

After all, you won’t want to miss seeing the elephants, giraffe, ostrich, and gerenuk up close.

Day Seven: Samburu and Masai Mara

Another flight is scheduled for today to take you from Samburu to the Masai Mara. Your family won’t be able to contain their excitement over the fact they are finally going to see Masai Mara up close!

You will be taken directly to your accommodation to check in and eat lunch. Then the fun begins with a game drive that takes place just before the sun sets.

Day Eight: Masai Mara National Reserve

Your first full day in Masai Mara will have you taking to the air during a hot air balloon ride. There is nothing better than seeing the vast wilderness, and some of the wildlife, from miles above. This will be the perfect day for making memories with your family!

If you can, I recommend scheduling your vacation in Kenya for when the Great Migration takes place. Then you can watch millions of animals run across the reserve while in the hot air balloon.

Day Nine: Masai Mara National Reserve

Driving through the Masai Mara National Reserve will be the highlight of your next to last day in Kenya. Even the smallest things will matter the most today, because you won’t want to miss even a moment during your family vacation.

Some of the animals you will see today include hippos, elephants, rhinos, lions, and cheetahs.

Day Ten: Masai Mara and Nairobi

You will have one last chance to go out on safari in Masai Mara before being taken to the airport for your flight back to Nairobi. This ten-day family vacation in Kenya for an intriguing safari will have gone by way too fast. However, you will always have the memories you made along the way. Cherish them and make others during future vacations.

This itinerary was packed of safari adventures, which is usually what happens when travelers go to Kenya to see the wildlife. So, don’t be surprised if your family’s itinerary looks similar. However, I will add other activities to your days if your family is interested in doing something other than safari in this part of the world.

Are you ready to take your family on a vacation to see the world? Kenya is one of the best destinations in the world for family vacations. There are plenty of family friendly things to do in Kenya. And only one of those things is heading out on safari. So, get ready to see the world, have a few adventures, and make those memories you will remember forever with your family. Today, I am going to share a few of the best things to do in Kenya. They are all family friendly. Although, depending on the ages of your kids, you may need to choose to skip a couple.

Best Family Friendly Things to Do in Kenya

Head to the Masai Mara National Reserve to See the Great Migration

If your family wants to see millions of wildebeest, antelope, and zebra running across the countryside, you must vacation in Kenya during the Great Migration. This magical event occurs every year between the months of July and October.

I recommend spending this time in the Masai Mara National Reserve. All the animals run right through this open space during the migration.

You can enjoy watching the animals from a safari vehicle. Or you can experience it from a different perspective. If you choose to do that, I recommend a hot air balloon ride.

If you cannot visit during the Great Migration, you can still head out on safari at any time. I can help you choose the best safari experience for your family

Head to the Beach

Families of all sizes will love spending time at the beach during a family vacation. While in Kenya, head to Diani Beach. Everyone in your family will enjoy participating in all the watersports at this beach. In between jet skiing, kitesurfing, and snorkeling adventures, you can grab a bite to eat at a nearby restaurant.

Go Out on the Water on a Dhow

Best Family Friendly Things to Do in Kenya - Dhow in Mombasa

A dhow is a wooden sailing vessel that has been used in the waters off Kenya for centuries. Dhows are launched from Mombasa or Diani Beach. However, one of the best places to get on one is the island of Lamu. This is a historic island your family will enjoy exploring.

While out on a dhow, you can visit the remote coral islands. Or slip into the water to swim with marine life near the reefs.

Go Snorkeling Off the Coast

If your family can’t get enough of the water while on a family vacation in Kenya, you have plenty of options. One of those options is to go snorkeling.

Make memories as you all swim with the green turtles at Watamu Marine National Park and Reserve. Check out the seahorses, ghostfish, and scorpion fish at the Galu Reef. The magic continues at the steep coral reef wall at Nyuli.

Go Hiking at Aberdare National Park

Out of all the parks in Kenya, Aberdare National Park is a hiker’s paradise. There are plenty of trails that will take your whole family through the forest. One of those trails will lead you to the spectacular Karuru Falls.

Consider taking the Dragon’s Teeth Trail to Mount Satima or heading out on the challenging Elephant Hills. Your family may even want to attempt to hike Kinangop Peak.

Choose the hiking trail that you know your family can do and then enjoy the sights and sounds the country has to offer.

Explore Nairobi City

If you are ready to get out of the bush for a while, head into Nairobi City to explore. Inside this city, you will discover old buildings, statues, national monuments, and quite a few markets. Walking around this city is one of the best ways to appreciate it all.

Walk to the McMillan Memorial Library, August 7th Memorial Park, Kipande House, and war memorial pillars. If you are afraid your family will miss something, let me arrange for a guided walking tour. A local guide can take you around and share the amazing history of this city.

Don’t forget to stop at one of the markets before you leave the city. Those markets are the best place to purchase souvenirs to take home.

Visit a Museum

There are quite a few museums your family can visit while on vacation in Kenya. One of the most popular museums is the Nairobi National Museum. Inside that museum, you can view exhibits that share the history of the country.

Other museums to add to your family vacation itinerary include the Karen Blixen Museum and the Kenya Railway Museum.

Check Out the Waterfalls

Waterfalls can be found within wildlife reserves, safari parks, forests, and other areas of Kenya. In Aberdare National Park, you can hike to Zaina Falls and the aforementioned Karuru Falls. However, there are plenty of other waterfalls to discover in Kenya with your family.

A few waterfalls that are considered hidden gems in the country include Paradise Lost Falls, Fourteen Falls, Thomson Falls, and Lugard Falls. Add one to your itinerary to really improve your Kenyan family vacation.

Take a Ride on the Madaraka Express Train

Traveling between Mombasa and Nairobi can be an adventure in itself. One of the best ways to travel between these two cities is by riding the Madaraka Express Train. There are three daily departures from each city.

The train ride is six hours long. You will be taken through Nairobi National Park and Tsavo National Park. I recommend taking this train ride in the morning. The animals are most active within the parks at that time. Therefore, you have a better chance of seeing them moving around in their natural habitats.

These are some of the best family friendly things to do in Kenya. There are many others, and I can help you determine which activities are best for your family vacation. I will do this as I am creating a personalized family vacation itinerary in Kenya for your trip.

Masai Mara National Reserve is always the top place to visit in Kenya during a family vacation. But did you know there are so many other places in Kenya to see? There are and you won’t want to miss many of them. If you are thinking about a family vacation in Kenya, you will want to keep in mind the best places in Kenya to visit. Spending time in just a few of these destinations will have you making memories with your family, as you go on thrilling adventures. Today, I am going to share the best places in Kenya to see during your next family vacation. I guarantee at least a couple of them will check off all the boxes for you.

Best Places in Kenya to See During a Family Vacation

Masai Mara National Reserve

Since I already mentioned Masai Mara, I thought I would share this destination first. Most people love to visit this area during the Great Migration. That is when millions of wildebeest, zebra, and antelope travel between here and Serengeti.

If you miss the Great Migration, there are still plenty of things to do in Masai Mara. I recommend heading down to the Mara River. At the river, you can watch hippos bathing in the water. Keep an eye out though. Crocodiles spend lots of time in the river too. And those crocs will think nothing of coming after you like they go after wildlife.

Other animals you can see during a Masai Mara safari include cheetahs, leopards, and lions.

Amboseli National Reserve

There are quite a few national reserves in Kenya. This is excellent news if your family loves to spend time out in nature!

Amboseli is a dry area of Kenya. However, inside this national reserve, you will find sulfur spring wetlands, woodlands, and savannahs too.

This is the best place in Kenya to visit if you want to see large groups of elephants. Other wildlife living in this unique area include giraffes, impala, gazelle, waterbuck, and eland.

While in Amboseli, visit the Maasai people if you can. These locals can share lots of information about this part of the country.

Tsavo National Park

Best Places in Kenya to See During a Family Vacation - Leopard in Tsavo National Park

Tsavo National Park is the largest park in Kenya. It is divided into two sections. Those sections are called Tsavo East and Tsavo West. Tsavo East is located between Nairobi and Mombasa. Elephants spend their time in that section of the park rolling around in the red dust.

Tsavo East is also where you will find the Yatta Plateau, Mudanda Rock, and Lugard Falls.

Over in Tsavo West, hippos can be found in Mzima Springs. Rhinos live within the Ngulia Rhino Santuary. And the Chaimu Crater is a fabulous spot for birdwatching.

Lake Nakuru National Park

Thousands of flamingos can be seen wading in Lake Nakuru, which is within Lake Nakuru National Park. That isn’t the only wildlife you will see in this park though. More than four hundred fifty other species of birds call this park home.

Other wildlife you will spot inside Lake Nakuru National Park include pythons, warthogs, and leopards. Oh, and don’t forget about the elusive white rhinos!

Make sure you have your camera with you during a visit to this park. It happens to be the largest euphorbia candelabrum forest on the continent of Africa. The tall succulents add quite the statement to an otherwise arid and barren destination.

Lamu Island

Lamu Island is a historic island in Kenya. People have been living on this island since the 12th century. I recommend starting your visit by wandering around the labyrinth of streets. Pay close attention to the intricate carvings on the wooden doors, as well as the coral stone buildings. Stop in the hidden courtyards if you can find them. And talk to the locals in between your sightseeing adventures.

Making memories is easy when you spend time on this small island in Kenya.

Lake Naivasha

Best Places in Kenya to See During a Family Vacation - Lake Naivasha

A trip to the Great Rift Valley will have you spending time at Lake Naivasha. Head out onto the lake in a boat for the best experience. Giraffes, zebras, and buffalo can often be seen grazing at the edge of the lake. Hippos spend a lot of their time in the lake, splashing around.

Make sure you look up into the trees. That is where you will spot numerous birds, as well as colobus monkeys.

Nairobi

One of the best places in Kenya to visit during a family vacation is Nairobi. Spending time in the city is an excellent way to reflect on your time out on safari. While in Nairobi, your family can visit museums, wander around the city streets, and check out the local markets.

Not too far from the center of the city is Nairobi National Park. A quick fifteen-minute drive will have you amongst the wildlife within this national park. Head out on the Nairobi Safari Walk to see the animals. Or choose a traditional safari by vehicle.

Before you leave the park, check out the rhino sanctuary and the David Sheldrick Wildlife Trust Elephant Nursery. The latter is home to orphaned elephants. Watch the staff bottle feed the babies. Then decide to adopt an elephant and help support them until they are able to be released back into the wild.

Malindi

Over in Malindi, you can relax on the beach if you need a little downtime. Of course, if you don’t want to stop seeing what Kenya has to offer, head to the two pillar tombs from the 14th century or the Church of St. Francis Xavier.

Marafa Depression is not too far away from Malindi. Those sandstone gorges were sculpted by the rain and winds.

Hell’s Gate National Park

Hiking is only one of the family friendly activities you can do in Hell’s Gate National Park. When you head out on your first hike, consider going to the Obsidian Caves, Hell’s Gate Gorge, or Fischer’s Tower, which is a former volcanic plug.

You’ll never know when you will stumble across a natural geyser or hot spring in this park. Just keep an eye out for the wildlife while here. They can be directly in front of you without a moment’s notice.

These are the best places in Kenya to see during a family vacation. Choose your destinations carefully if time is short or see them all during a longer family trip. I can help you decide which places in Kenya should be at the top of your list, as I am creating a personalized family vacation itinerary for you.

So, are you ready to have me create a personalized family vacation itinerary for your trip to Kenya or another destination?

If you said yes, I would like to invite you to click here to schedule a personalized family vacation planning session with me. When you click on the link, you will be taken directly to my digital calendar to schedule a time that is convenient for you.

Two of the best places to head out on safari are Serengeti National Park and Masai Mara National Reserve. Serengeti is located in Tanzania, while Masai Mara can be found in Kenya. Many families like yours travel to these areas during the Great Wildebeest Migration. This is when millions of wildebeests, zebras, elands, and gazelles move from one area to another in search of water and greener pastures. During a Serengeti and Masai Mara safari, you can see this migration take place firsthand. And if you miss the action, there is still plenty to see during a family vacation while out on safari. Today, I am sharing some of the possibilities when you choose a Serengeti and Masai Mara safari for your family vacation.

Serengeti and Masai Mara Safari Family Vacation

Day One: Tarangire National Park

On the very first day of your Serengeti and Masai Mara safari adventure, you will arrive in Arusha. Upon your arrival, you will be taken straight to Tarangire National Park. This park only has one source of water, which is the Tarangire River.

Lots of elephants live within this park. You will often find them down by the river. It is also possible to spot giraffes, bushbucks, and hartebeests. If you see those animals, be prepared for lions and leopards to be close by.

Day Two: Tarangire National Park

You can’t spend just part of a day in Tarangire National Park, which is why day two is also dedicated to this area. The entire day will be spent out on a game drive throughout the park. You will even eat lunch inside the park, so you don’t miss a moment of the action.

Day Three: Ngorongoro Crater

Your family won’t want to leave Tarangire National Park, but there is so much more waiting for you all on this Serengeti and Masai Mara safari. Day three will have you arriving at the Ngorongoro Crater. Imagine the memories your family will make at this geographical wonder.

So many animals live within this massive crater. Keep your eyes open so you don’t miss any of the wildebeests, gazelles, zebras, and other animals. Most of your day will be spent driving down into and through the crater.

Day Four: Serengeti National Park

Serengeti and Masai Mara Safari Family Vacation - Cheetah in Serengeti National Park

On day four of your family vacation, it will finally be time to venture over to Serengeti National Park. The route your family takes will have you seeing the Olduvai Gorge. This is one of the most important paleoanthropological locations in the entire world. Once you have seen sections of the gorge, it will be time to enter the park.

Serengeti National Park is one of the oldest ecosystems in the world. An abundance of wildlife can be seen within this park in Tanzania. If you managed to time your family vacation just right, you may be able to watch part of the Great Migration. If not, you will still have an excellent chance of seeing plenty of animals.

Day Five: North Serengeti National Park

The Great Migration takes place in North Serengeti National Park, which is known as Wagakuria. The game drive on this day will follow this route. Part of your day will be spent near the Mara River. Just keep an eye out for the Nile crocodiles that reside there. They can be quite active if other animals are nearby.

Day Six and Seven: North Serengeti National Park

Since one day in Serengeti National Park is never enough, this tour offers two more days. Both days will be spent on full-day game drives. This is wonderful news because you never know what wildlife you will see each day.

Day Eight: Masai Mara National Reserve

Your family won’t know whether they should be sad they are leaving Serengeti National Park today or happy because they are finally going to get to see the Masai Mara National Reserve. This is a long drive, so use the time to take a nap in between sightseeing.

Yes, you are seeing that right! Your family gets to spend three full days doing game drives in the Masai Mara National Reserve! If you arrive in this area between the months of July and October, you will see millions of wildebeests, gazelles, and zebras migrating between Serengeti and Masai Mara.

Your family will also spot cheetahs, African bush elephants, lions, and African leopards during these drives. You are welcome to skip one of the game drives if you wish. However, be prepared to learn you missed something incredible during the time you stayed behind.

Day Twelve: Nairobi

You will have just enough time to go for a quick game drive early in the morning before it is time to go back to Nairobi and your flight home.

Kenya is one of the best places to head out on safari. If you have been searching for a unique family vacation, I recommend considering a safari in Kenya. You get to spend time in the great outdoors while making memories with your family. Add in the thrilling experiences that include seeing wildlife and the opportunity to see different areas of the region, and you will have an amazing vacation. Today, I am going to share what an itinerary can look like for a Kenya safari. You can easily choose to do something similar for your next family vacation. Or you can have me personalize an itinerary that matches your interests while on a Kenya safari.

Consider a Kenya Safari for Your Family Vacation

Day One: Nairobi

The first day of your Kenya safari family vacation will have you arriving at the airport and being transported to your hotel in Nairobi. It is recommended that you relax and utilize the amenities at the hotel for the remainder of the day. Although, you can head out to explore the city on your own if you wish.

Day Two: Nairobi

After a filling breakfast, you will be swept away into the heart of Nairobi for a city tour. This is an excellent way to see the major attractions in the city and learn about each one from your guide.

Next on your list of things to do will stop at animal sanctuaries. David Sheldrick’s Elephant Orphanage will have you learning about orphaned baby elephants. The staff will share how they care for the baby elephants, so they can be returned to the wild.

At the Giraffe Center, you will have the opportunity to meet endangered Rothschild giraffes. If you are lucky, you will be invited to go up to the feeding area to offer the giraffes’ food pellets. The giraffes will reward you with a kiss after taking the food.

Day Three: Amboseli National Park

Consider a Kenya Safari for Your Family Vacation - Safari in Amboseli National Park

It is finally time to head out on your Kenya safari adventure. Today will begin with a drive to Amboseli National Park. Once you are checked into your accommodations, you will all be taken out on a game drive. This is one of the best places to see the Big Five, as well as other wildlife.

If the weather is nice, make sure you capture some photos of Mount Kilimanjaro in the background.

Day Four: Amboseli National Park

Yes, you get an entire day to spend exploring Amboseli National Park during your Kenya safari. You will head out on a game drive almost before the sun comes up. This is an ideal time to see the animals because they are quite active. Don’t worry; you can enjoy a hearty breakfast together while reliving your memories of the morning when you return to your accommodations.

A little relaxation will be in order afterward, so you will be ready to head out on a game drive later in the day.

Day Five: Lake Naivasha

You will get some great views of Mount Kilimanjaro early in the morning before you leave to head over to Lake Naivasha. Your drive to the lake will take you through the breathtaking Great Rift Valley. After a stop at your hotel, you will head out to the lake for a boat cruise.

The boat will take you to Crescent Island Private Sanctuary. You can wander around the island as you see the native wildlife. Some of the wildlife you will see includes giraffes, zebras, impalas, hippos, and wildebeests.

Day Six: Lake Nakuru National Park

Your entire day will be spent driving around Lake Nakuru National Park. There are thousands of animals living within the savannah, acacia woodland, and swamps. This is also where you will spot the infamous white rhino. Well, you will if you are lucky!

Day Seven: Masai Mara National Reserve

Early in the morning, you will head out to the Masai Mara National Reserve. You will stop at Narok town for a few refreshments before reaching your final destination. Later in the day, you will go on an evening game drive.

Prior to your evening game drive, you will have the option to either visit a Masai Village or take a hot air balloon safari.

Day Eight: Masai Mara National Reserve

Yes, you get one more full day at the Masai Mara National Reserve. This is excellent news because your family will want to see more of the wildlife before returning home. Your entire day will be spent out in the reserve. You will even eat lunch in a scenic spot. This will allow you to hear the animals howling nearby. Don’t worry; your guide will ensure your safety at all times.

Day Nine: Nairobi

Early in the morning, you will ride back to Nairobi for your departure back home. Your nine days in Kenya on safari will have gone by way too fast. But the memories you made with your family will last forever!

There are so many other options that can be included within an itinerary on a Kenya safari. If you have been dreaming of taking a family vacation and doing a Kenya safari, now is the time to make it happen. You won’t regret one moment of being out in the middle of nowhere, as your entire family leaves all their responsibilities behind.

As an expert family travel advisor, I spend my days creating custom itineraries for families of all sizes. Over the years, I have spent time working with reputable companies, as we have created custom itineraries for all different destinations. I have used the skills I have acquired to continue creating amazing Masai Mara safaris that are perfect for family vacations. There is something that is simply spectacular about spending time amongst the wildlife in nature. Your entire family will love the eight days you get to explore during a Masai Mara safari. In fact, you may be enjoying yourselves so much that you won’t want to return home!

Consider a Masai Mara Safari for Your Family Vacation

You will have an expert guide leading you on every safari you take during your time in Masai Mara. These expert guides offer a wealth of information about the area, as well as the wildlife you will see. You will want to pay close attention to your guides as they are speaking, or you may miss out on a chance to see something exciting.

Highlights of a Masai Mara Safari include:

  • Nairobi National Park
  • Tsavo West National Park
  • Mzima Spring
  • Amboseli National Park
  • Lake Naivasha
  • Lake Nakuru National Park
  • Masai Mara Game Reserve

Day One: Nairobi

Your goal will be to arrive early in Nairobi, if you possibly can, on day one of your Masai Mara safari family vacations. If I can arrange an early flight for you, your family will have the opportunity to explore Nairobi National Park.

You may also have time to visit the Sheldrick Wildlife Trust. Orphaned baby elephants live there. Your kids will fall in love with those elephants and may even beg you to take one home. Don’t worry; it will be simple to say no to them for this request!

Day Two: Tsavo West National Park

Masai Mara Safari - Warthog on Safari

After a good night’s sleep, your guide will take you to Tsavo West National Park. If you didn’t get enough sleep the night before, you have a four-hour journey in front of you. So, you can always take a nap before the real adventures begin. The kids will most likely love this part of the plan!

When you arrive at the park, you will head out on a game drive. There are so many animals living within this park. Hopefully, your family will at least see black rhinos, zebra, lions, antelope, giraffes, cheetahs, and elephants.

Before you leave Tsavo West, you will be taken to Mzima Spring, as well as the nearby lava flows. Don’t be surprised if you happen to spot a few crocodiles during your visit. They love spending time near the water.

Day Three: Amboseli National Park

Day three will have your family traveling to Amboseli National Park. Once you have checked into your accommodations, it will be time to head out on another game drive. This one will have you all enjoying views of Mt. Kilimanjaro.

Don’t worry if you don’t see too much but the massive mountain during this drive. You will have another drive at Amboseli National Park on the morning of day four of your Masai Mara safari.

Day Four: Amboseli and Lake Naivasha

As I mentioned above, this morning will be spent spotting the wildlife at Amboseli National Park. The morning will go by quickly, and before you know it, it will be time to travel all the way to Lake Naivasha.

Consider a Masai Mara Safari for Your Family Vacation - Hippos Swimming in a Lake

Day Five: Lake Naivasha and Lake Nakuru

After a long day of travel on day four, you will be more than ready for your boat cruise on Lake Naivasha today. This is an incredible opportunity because the boat ride will allow you to see hippos swimming in the lake and buffalo feeding on the shoreline.

Later in the day, you will make the trek to Lake Nakuru to see even more wildlife during a game drive.  Consider a Masai Mara Safari for Your Family Vacation - Lake Naivasha Boat Ride

Day Six: Lake Nakuru National Park and Masai Mara Game Reserve

Your Masai Mara safari family vacation will be almost over by the time you leave Lake Nakuru National Park on the morning of day six. However, there are still a couple of days left for you all to make a few memories to cherish for a lifetime!

Let your entire family feel the excitement as you head out to the Masai Mara Game Reserve. This famous reserve is the perfect spot to see animals in a habitat that has been mostly unchanged for more than a century.

If you plan your family vacation right, you may capture a glimpse of the Great Migration. This normally takes place between July and September each year. The dates do vary, as the weather plays a big part in when the animals decide to change locations.

Masai Mara Safari - Masai Mara Game Reserve Safari Vehicles

Day Seven: Masai Mara Game Reserve

Hopefully, your family relaxes during the little downtime you have on day six because day seven will be a busy one! This entire day will be spent exploring the Masai Mara Game Reserve. You are guaranteed to see multiple crocodiles and hippos during your visit. As well as all the other animals that live within this game reserve.

I recommend having your smartphone or camera’s batteries charged and maybe having backup batteries too. You will be taking a lot of pictures on this next to the last day of your family vacation.

Masai Mara Safari - Lion on the Masai Mara Game Reserve

Day Eight: Masai Mara and Nairobi

As long as you get up early enough on the last day of your Masai Mara safari, you will all have the chance to head back out on one last game drive. Make the effort because it won’t be long before you are transported back to the airport in Nairobi to hop onto a plane to go back home.
