Did you know that national grilled cheese day is April 12th?  If you love eating all types of grilled cheese sandwiches, now is the time to plan a family vacation for that day. This way you can try new types of grilled cheese sandwiches in destinations around the world. These sandwiches are prepared differently around the world. Another fun fact is grilled cheese was originally known as toasted cheese or melted cheese. It’s quite funny how the name of the sandwich has changed over the years. Today, I am sharing different grilled cheese options from many destinations. You can use this information to determine where you want to spend national grilled cheese day with your family!

National Grilled Cheese Day: Celebrate with a Family Vacation

Australia – Vegemite with Cheese

National Grilled Cheese Day: Celebrate with a Family Vacation - Vegemite with Cheese Sandwich in Australia

The locals eat a lot of vegemite in Australia. The dark spread is made from yeast extract. While it may not appeal to you, they put it on everything. Including their grilled cheese sandwiches.

Vacationing in Australia for national grilled cheese day? Use my travel guide if you decide to venture over to New Zealand to create a few memories!

Venezuela – Arepa de Queso – A Unique Destination to Celebrate National Grilled Cheese Day

Down in Venezuela, they use cornbread on the outside of their grilled cheese sandwiches. They then fill that bread with shredded cheese.

Italy – Panini

Italy is famous for its paninis. But it is the Caprese panini that closely resembles our grilled cheese sandwiches. The locals place thick slices of mozzarella on the bread. They then add tomatoes and basil. Another slice of bread is placed on top. The sandwich is put into a panini press to cook until the cheese is melted.

England – Cheese Toastie – A Fancy Destination for Celebrating National Grilled Cheese Day

The cheese toasties in England are very similar to our grilled cheese sandwiches. But they put butter on the inside of the bread too.

Check out this 6-day itinerary to see if it will pique your family’s interest for your next vacation.

France – Croque Monsieur

National Grilled Cheese Day: Celebrate with a Family Vacation - Croque Monsieur in France

The French always go all out when it comes to their food. So, it is not shocking that their grilled cheese uses ham and Gruyere. The locals add bechamel sauce and more Gruyere on top before serving.

Consider visiting these fairytale villages during your family vacation in France.

Mexico – Quesadilla

The Mexicans use tortillas as their bread. They place shredded cheese between two tortillas. They then warm the tortillas until the cheese is melted. While they eat plain cheese quesadillas, most of the time, they add different types of meat, beans, and even peppers to give them more flavor.

Wales – Welsh Rarebit

Welsh Rarebit is made with one slice of bread. The locals place cheese sauce on the bread before broiling it until toasty and slightly brown.

On National Grilled Cheese Day, try making one of these other versions of grilled cheese. Let me know below if you find a new favorite. Or if you make grilled cheese sandwiches different from all the options I mentioned above!

One of my favorite types for national grilled cheese day is:

Grilled Cheese with Tomatoes and Bacon

grilled cheese with bacon and tomatoes

INGREDIENTS

2 large heirloom tomatoes sliced thick
Sea salt (such as Maldon)
12 oz. bacon
8 slices thick-cut bread
1/2 c. mayonnaise
1/2 lb. sliced Gruyère cheese
1/2 lb. sliced provolone

DIRECTIONS

1. Season tomatoes with sea salt and set aside.

2. In a large cast-iron skillet over medium-high heat, place bacon in an even layer and cook until crisp, about 3 minutes per side. Transfer to a paper towel-lined plate.

3. Spread each piece of bread with a thin layer of mayonnaise. Reduce heat to medium. Place bread in cast iron skillet mayonnaise-side down. Top with layers of gruyère on one half of the bread and provolone on the other side. Place sliced tomatoes and bacon on one side of the bread and cover skillet.

4. When the cheese has begun to melt, top the tomatoes and bacon with another bread slice, mayonnaise side up. Flip occasionally until both sides are golden brown. Serve immediately.

Will you be making any of these for national grilled cheese day? Let me know and let me know where you want to travel to eat some of the best grilled cheese in the world!

There are quite a few international foods to try all around the world. I’m talking about more than 80 different ethnic cuisines. It is definitely difficult to say which international food is the best. Especially since everyone has their own personal favorite. Today, I am sharing some of the international foods to try during your next family vacation.

International Foods to Try During Your Next Family Vacation

Greece

International Foods to Try During Your Next Family Vacation - Spanakopita

Spanakopita is a savory pastry made with crispy phyllo pastry. It is filled with spinach, feta, egg, scallions, and special seasonings.
There is a delicious vegan version of this popular Greek dish as well.

Morocco – Quite a Unique International Food

B’stilla, or Pastilla, is also called pigeon pie. It is slightly sweet and savory dish that is served as an appetizer. It is made with quail, chicken thighs, or Cornish hens when pigeon is not available.

Italy

Prosciutto di Parma is made from only the hind legs of chosen heritage bred pigs. This ham is cured for at least 400 days (by law). The result is a slice of delectable meat prepared in perfect conditions.

Poland

Chlodnik is a summer soup. It is very popular within Polish culture. The soup is bright pink and served cold. Its main ingredients are beets, cucumber and yogurt.

Hawaii

Poke is a traditional Hawaiian dish. It is served as an appetizer or a main dish. Essentially, it contains diced raw fish doused in seasonings. The fish can be lightly seared depending on a person’s preferences.
And yes, I know Hawaii is not an international destination. However, Hawaiian poke is definitely a dish you will want to try when you are traveling with family! So, that’s why I added it as an international food to try while on a family vacation.

Singapore

International Foods to Try During Your Next Family Vacation - Chili Mud Crab in Singapore

Chili Crab is prepared using mud crabs. Those crabs have much larger front claws than the traditional blue crab. The crabs are stir-fried in a delicious thick tomato and chili-based sauce.

Japan

Ankimo is the foie gras of the sea. It is comprised of monkfish liver rubbed with salt and washed in sake. Once deveined, the liver is rolled and steamed. The dish is served with scallions, grated daikon, and ponzu sauce.

Indonesia

Rendang is prepared with beef sirloin, spices, and coconut milk. This makes this dish richer than traditional curry. The meat is slow-cooked until just about all the liquid is gone.

Senegal – A Delicious International Food

Poulet Yassa is prepared using marinated poultry or fish. This succulent dish is prepared with lemon and lots of caramelized onions (they really make the dish). It is served over white rice.
If you are unable to travel the globe to try international foods from around the world, you can take a stab at some recipes in your own kitchen. Some of the recipes are more complex than others. But think of the memories you will make, as you try to recreate each one.

So, are you ready to enjoy some international foods after I create a personalized family vacation itinerary for your next trip?

If you said yes, I would like to invite you to click here to schedule a personalized family vacation planning session. When you click on this link, you will be taken directly to my digital calendar to schedule a time that is convenient for you.

Garlic has been around for at least six thousand years. It has come quite a distance from its native Asia. This pungent seasoning adds quite the flavor to many different types of cuisine. People following the Mediterranean diet use garlic the most while cooking. If you don’t cook with garlic, attending a garlic festival can help you find ways to add this ingredient to many of your dishes.

China ships the most garlic worldwide. However, South Korea, India, Russia, and Egypt ship it out as well. Many people choose to eat lots of garlic, because it is a known source of vitamins A, B-1, and C. It is also full of magnesium, calcium, and iron. This smelly herb can lower cholesterol and high blood pressure, while also allowing a person to overcome colds and fatigue.

While you may use garlic for some of your daily cooking, you may not know everything you could about this amazing superfood. This is where the many different local garlic festivals come into play.

National Garlic Day is in April. However, many garlic festivals are not held on that day. This means you can enjoy a garlic festival or two throughout the year as you travel for a culinary family vacation.

Garlic Festivals to Visit During a Culinary Family Vacation

Old Mistick Village Annual Garlic Festival

Garlic Festivals to Visit During a Culinary Family Vacation - Olde Mistick Village in Mystic CT

Attending the Old Mistick Village Annual Garlic Festival in Mystic, Connecticut is quite fun. You will find everything garlic related in Olde Mistick Village.

Farmers bring garlic, and fresh produce, to sell, while local restaurants serve up some tasty foods filled with garlic. Add in all the shopping opportunities and you will have a day-long event to keep you busy.

Stop into Clyde’s Cider Mill to watch apple cider being made. Then grab a gallon or two to take back home with you. Or drink while eating a slice or two of pizza from Mystic Pizza.

Midwest Garlic Festival

The Midwest Garlic Festival is in Terrapin Park in Elizabeth, Illinois. This free event allows you to purchase garlic from local farmers, as well as the fresh produce they bring.

There are many food vendors sharing how to prepare different foods with garlic. Many of those foods are for sale.

Music plays in the background, as you are wandering around, so do not be surprised if you start dancing with others who are in attendance. Although, your kids may roll their eyes, as you dance with strangers during your family vacation!

Maine’s Garlic Festival

Maine’s Garlic Festival is at Lake George Regional Park. When you are not enjoying the garlic and other foods, you can spend time playing a few games or listening to music. There is also an art exhibit to wander through before you leave.

I can easily add this garlic festival to your itinerary for your family vacation in Maine.

Gilroy Garlic Festival

Garlic Festivals to Visit During a Culinary Family Vacation - Gilroy Garlic Festival in California

The Gilroy Garlic Festival is at Christmas Hill Park in Gilroy, California. This outdoor festival offers more than two tons of garlic within the food that is served. There are also three stages of live entertainment, arts and crafts vendors, and a children’s area.

Of course, there are so many other activities you can do with your family while you vacation in this area of California. Allow me to personalize your itinerary, so you create memories to cherish for a lifetime.

Want to experience a culinary family vacation internationally? Check out these festivals in Ireland!

Minnesota Garlic Festival

The Minnesota Garlic Festival is on the McLeod Country Fairgrounds. This is a family-friendly event that is full of garlic, food, and fun!

The farmers within this state grow more than seventy different varieties of garlic and it is used in everything there, including ice cream. You may want to skip tasting the ice cream, but honestly, you should try it! You may be surprised at just how good it is.

Check out the culinary scene in Portland during your next family vacation.

China Bend Winery Garlic Faire

The China Bend Winery Garlic Faire is at the China Bend Winery in Kettle Falls, Washington. This garlic fair has been going strong for more than twenty years now. When you are not tasting the garlic, you can listen to music and drink some fine wine.

And since this is a winery, the kids will have plenty of space to play and have fun on their own during your family vacation.

Asheville WNC Garlic Fest

The Asheville WNC Garlic Fest is at Sow True Seed in Asheville, North Carolina. Garlic ice cream, garlic fudge, garlic cookies, and honey fermented with garlic are available to eat.

Make sure you check out all the food trucks, so you can find the garlic foods you love the most!

Click here to see all the amazing things you can do with family during a vacation in Asheville, NC.

These are only some of the local garlic festivals in the US throughout the year. While none of them are on National Garlic Day, you can still enjoy garlic when you attend any of them. If you are looking for something different on your next culinary family vacation, you may want to visit an area near one of these garlic festivals. I can personalize your itinerary, so you have an amazing family vacation while making memories with the people you love!

So, are you ready to have me create a personalized family vacation itinerary for your next trip?

If you said yes, I would like to invite you to click here to schedule a personalized family vacation planning session with me. Clicking this link will take you to my digital calendar to schedule a time that is convenient for you.

The country of Vietnam is full of so many adventurous activities and things to do. However, a family vacation in Vietnam should also include everyone eating a lot of Vietnamese food. Healthy ingredients are used in all Vietnamese dishes. Once you add in the unique flavors, everyone’s taste buds will be asking for more. You can easily try a new Vietnamese dish every day and still not have tried them all by the time you leave. Today, I am sharing some of my favorite foods you should try during your family vacation in Vietnam.

Family Vacation in Vietnam is a Foodie’s Dream

Since there are so many different Vietnamese foods available in Vietnam, you may feel overwhelmed. That feeling may have you wondering exactly what you should be trying first. And of course, it can also cause you to wonder if you are skipping over something delicious. Thankfully, this blog post ensures you know which foods should be at the top of your list to try while you are on your family vacation in Vietnam.

The Best Foods to Try as Your Family is Eating Their Way Through Vietnam

Pho – A Favorite for Families on Vacation in Vietnam

Pho is the one Vietnamese dish that no one should turn down when on a family vacation in Vietnam. This Vietnamese dish is a type of soup. Beef stock, noodles, beef or chicken, and spices are used in this soup. You can easily order this dish wherever you are vacationing in Vietnam.

Check out these beautiful towns to visit in Vietnam with your family!

Bò Kho

Family Vacation in Vietnam is a Foodie's Dream - Bo Kho Dish

Bò Kho is a type of stew. This stew dish is served for both breakfast and lunch. The meat, which is usually beef, is simmered in fish sauce. Water, sugar, carrots, onions, and spices are added. I recommend eating it with a chunk of crusty French bread.

Cha Giò and Nem Rán

Cha Giò and Nem Rán is the name of Vietnamese spring rolls. The former name is what they are called in the southern part of the country. The latter is what they are called up north.

These spring rolls are delicious and worth trying during your family vacation in Vietnam! The spring rolls are minced pork and veggies mixed together and wrapped in rice paper. They are then fried until golden and crunchy.

Your family will love them during your vacation in Vietnam. So much so, that you may need to find a Vietnamese restaurant back home to order them from!

Com Tam

Com Tam means broken rice. You will find this Vietnamese dish in every food stall around the country. Many of the locals order it for lunch because it is cheap and filling. This dish is prepared by placing meat and greens on top of a plate of rice.

This is one of the street foods you will find yourselves ordering time and time again during your family vacation in Vietnam.

Bún Bò Hue

Bún Bò Hue is a meal that is popular in Hue, Vietnam. The locals in this city love their foods spicy and this dish does not disappoint. To prepare this meal, the broth is made from beef bones, fermented fish sauce, and lemongrass. Then noodles, vegetables, herbs, and either beef or pork are added. Before the dish is complete, a little chili is added to give it a little kick.

Family Vacation in Vietnam is a Foodie's Dream - Bun bo hue

Bánh Mì – Even Picky Eaters Love This While on Vacation in Vietnam

Bánh Mì is a flaky loaf of bread. While some people will eat slices of bread plain, others will turn them into delicious sandwiches.

Bánh Xèo

Bánh Xèo is a Vietnamese pancake It is made from rice flour and turmeric. This pancake is a must-try during your family vacation in Vietnam. These pancakes are served with beansprouts and greens. This is a well-rounded meal.

Unique river cruise destinations to consider for your next family vacation.

Bot Chien

This Vietnamese food is mainly served for breakfast. However, some people eat it at any time of the day. It is basically cubes of rice flour fried and served with eggs and green onions. Think of yumminess that will melt in your mouth.

These are the best foods in Vietnam to try as you are eating your way through the country on your family vacation. Your family may be leery of trying these new foods since they are not familiar with them. But I guarantee that once they take their first bite, they will be begging for more.

Are you ready to expand your family’s palate with a family vacation in Vietnam? Don’t lose out on precious time with your kids now and face the regrets later. Now is the time to make plans for those memories you will cherish in the future.

Chocolate is a sweet treat many of us simply cannot resist. Therefore, I know you are more than ready to help me celebrate National Chocolate Day! If you are like me, you have your favorite types of chocolate candies and desserts. But where should you take a family vacation when you want to try different types of chocolate? Numerous destinations are known for their local chocolate. Today, I am going to share more about the best destinations to taste chocolate. As well as a little history about chocolate. I recommend grabbing a piece or two of chocolate to eat before you finish reading.

Let’s Celebrate National Chocolate Day

The History of Chocolate

Let's Celebrate National Chocolate Day - Chocolate Drinks

Chocolate has been consumed since the times of Mesoamerica. However, scientists are still trying to prove that point. They are getting close, though.

Anthropologists from the University of Pennsylvania found cacao residue on pottery excavated in Honduras in 2007. The pottery dates back to 1400 BCE. Cacao fruit was fermented to make alcoholic beverages.

Chocolate back then was quite bitter. Sweetened chocolate was consumed after the discovery of America.

Hernando Cortes was one of the first explorers to consume chocolate drinks. He thought it was too bitter. However, in Spain, people began to mix it with cane sugar or honey to make it sweeter.

Chocolate drinks were a fashionable drink during the 17th century. A Dutch chemist created powdered chocolate in 1828.

Joseph Fry invented the chocolate bar in 1847. That was when he realized he could create a chocolate bar by mixing melted cacao butter with Dutch cocoa.

Cadbury began making chocolate candies in 1868. The least flavorful cacao bean varieties are used for today’s chocolate treats. This is to try to keep the chocolate treats more affordable.

Where to Take a Family Vacation to Indulge in Chocolate

You can easily find chocolate no matter where you go for your family vacation. However, if you want to indulge in some of the best chocolate in celebration of National Chocolate Day, I recommend you consider these destinations.

Switzerland

Switzerland has long been known for its delicious chocolate. One of the oldest chocolate factories in Switzerland, and the world, is Maison Cailler. From the outside, this factory looks like a manor house. But inside is where all the magic occurs.

Other must-visit chocolate factories and stores in Switzerland include Sprungli, Teuscher, and Lindt. I recommend adding them all to your itinerary for celebrating National Chocolate Day with your family.

Brussels, Belgium: A Popular National Chocolate Day Destination

Let's Celebrate National Chocolate Day - Godiva Chocolate Store in Belgium

Brussels has earned the nickname Chocolate Capital of the World. There are more chocolate shops per square foot in this city than anywhere else in the world. Needless to say, you will always find chocolate when you need it in Brussels!

Godiva and Leonidas are both located in Brussels. A visit to the Musee du Cacao et du Chocolate is a must for chocolate lovers too.

Let me carefully plan your National Chocolate Day itinerary for your family vacation in Brussels. This will ensure you won’t miss any of the delicious chocolate during your visit.

Want to indulge in chocolate closer to home? Check out where to find the best chocolate in Baltimore!

Paris, France

Gourmet foods are everywhere in the City of Love. While many families grab croissants and baguettes during their vacation in Paris, you may want to focus on the chocolate. There are more than three hundred chocolate shops in this city.

Dark chocolate is Paris’ specialty. Keep this in mind as you sign up for one of the many chocolate walking tours on National Chocolate Day.

The Chocolate Valley in Tuscany, Italy

You may want to take a family vacation in Italy to try all the fine wines. I recommend checking out the chocolate when you are there too!

The Chocolate Valley is between Pisa, Florence, and Montecatini. There are multiple gourmet shops and factories that sell lots of chocolate.

Vestri is one of the best places to try chocolate in this area. The wait to get in is always long but worth every second.

Don’t forget about National Chocolate Cupcake Day!

Cologne, Germany

Learning about chocolate is simple at the Imhoff Stollwerck Museum. Hans Imhoff opened this museum. Inside the museum, you can learn all about the history of chocolate. The most popular exhibit is the massive chocolate fountain.

Make sure you take the time to stop at the Stollwerck Chocolate Company to buy chocolate. This company was the second largest supplier of chocolate sent to the US. You will need to plan carefully if you want visit here for National Chocolate Day.

St. Lucia: A Warm National Chocolate Day Destination

No one really thinks all their chocolate dreams can come true down in the Caribbean. However, when you take a family vacation in St. Lucia, you can experience an exotic chocolate holiday.

A few of the resorts have their own cocoa plantations. Those resorts focus on numerous chocolate events your entire family will enjoy. I recommend attending one of those events around National Chocolate Day.

These are some of the best places to take a family vacation when you want to experience all things chocolate. If none of these destinations interest you, I can share a few others with you during our planning session.

So, are you ready to plan a family vacation to celebrate National Chocolate Day?

When was the last time you took a bite of Boston cream pie? I haven’t had a slice of this delicious pie in quite some time. However, I think I might go find a piece or two, so I can celebrate National Boston Cream Pie Day. If you don’t know much about Boston cream pie or have never had a piece, you are in for a treat. Today, I am going to share a few things about this delectable pie. I’ll even share the best place to get a slice while you tackle the best things to do in Boston.

Let’s Celebrate National Boston Cream Pie Day

The History of Boston Cream Pie

Let's Celebrate National Boston Cream Pie Day - Omni Parker House in Boston

Before I get to the history of Boston cream pie, you must know that this pie isn’t really a pie. It is a cake that has a creamy filling in between the layers. Don’t worry, it is still yummy and worth eating!

Check out these actual pies for National Pie Day.

Anyway, Boston cream pie was first made by M. Sanzian in 1856. He was the chef at the Parker House Hotel in Boston, MA. Since he made the pie at a Boston restaurant, it made sense to add the word Boston to the beginning of the pie’s, well, cake’s name.

The original Boston cream pie was layers of cake and pastry cream. Rum was brushed on the top of each layer. The chocolate icing was added to the top. And slivered almonds were placed around the sides.

No one is quite sure why everyone accepted that this was a pie and not a cake. It could be because Boston cream pie is similar to Washington Pie, which was also actually a cake. Boston cream pie was basically an updated version.

Where to Eat Boston Cream Pie

Let's Celebrate National Boston Cream Pie Day - Boston Cream Donuts

You can find Boston cream pie, and donuts, in many restaurants and bakeries around the country. And yet, if you walk into some bakeries and restaurants in Boston, they won’t have the pies or donuts you are searching for.

Don’t worry! I won’t leave you stranded without Boston cream pie or donuts while you are on a family vacation in Boston!

When it comes to Boston cream donuts, the best place to go is Union Square Donuts. And if you are not in the mood for a Boston cream donut, they have many other kinds. I recommend the caramel pumpkin cheesecake donut, sea salt whiskey caramel donut, or the peanut butter and jelly donut. Or get them all and have a blast eating breakfast all day long!

The Parker House Hotel is now the Omni Parker House. It is still the best place to eat a slice of Boston cream pie while on a family vacation.

Use my handy travel guide while starting to plan your family vacation in Boston.

I don’t know about you, but I can’t wait to vacation in Boston and eat a slice of Boston cream pie! I’m not sure if I will get there to celebrate National Boston Cream Pie Day. But I will get there soon. After all, I want to visit some of the best bars in Boston. Until then, I may consider making my own Boston cream pie at home.

I recommend trying this recipe for Boston Cream Pie:

Boston Cream Pie

Oh, and this Boston cream pie martini looks good too!

Check out all the states’ desserts if you don’t want to make Boston Cream Pie.

Let’s raise our glasses and forks and celebrate National Boston Cream Pie Day in style! Although, that leads me to a question…

Solo female travel has become more popular in recent years. Women are taking more time off from work. And they are recognizing the need to unwind and relax on their own terms. There are quite a few amazing destinations for solo female travelers to choose from when they decide they need to get away. However, those solo female travelers who want to include food and wine in their vacation itinerary will want to consider specific destinations. What are the top destinations for solo female travelers who love food and wine? Well, today I am going to share my favorite top solo female travel food and wine destinations with you. Tuscany, Napa Valley, and Porto are only three of the fabulous top places for food and wine lovers who are traveling solo. There are many others you will want to consider while planning your solo female food and wine vacation.

Top Destination for Solo Female Travelers Who Love Food and Wine

Tuscany, Italy

Top Destinations for Solo Female Travelers Who Love Food and Wine - Meal Overlooking the City of Florence, Italy

You probably aren’t surprised to see Tuscany, Italy makes my list of the top destinations for solo female travelers who love food and wine. After all, this is one of the best solo female travel destinations in Europe. And you can’t visit Tuscany without drinking some incredible wine!

During your solo female vacation in Tuscany, you must wander through vineyards and taste the different wines. Chianti is the most popular wine in Tuscany. So, ship a few bottles back home. This way you can relive the memories every time you open a bottle.

Culinary delights are also part of every vacation in Tuscany. Consider an olive oil tasting. Go on a truffle hunt. Or allow me to sign you up for a pasta making cooking class while I am creating your personalized itinerary.

With so many delicious foods available in the Tuscany region, I recommend wandering through a food market or two. This will allow you to purchase local foods to eat during picnic lunches or when you are back at your hotel.

Check out these amazing festivals and events for solo female travelers!

Napa Valley, California

You don’t need to travel all the way to Italy to enjoy a little fine wine and delicious cuisine. Napa Valley is considered one of the best wine regions in the United States.

There are plenty of food and wine tours for solo female travelers in Napa Valley. Or you can join a tour that has solo travelers, as well as couples and groups.

Imagine sitting down to a meal that offers farm to table options on the menu. Add in a glass or bottle of your new favorite wine. Or choose to try what your server is recommending that pairs perfectly with the meal you ordered.

Snap photos of the stunning landscapes and vineyards. And allow me to book a spa experience or two. This will ensure you finish your solo female vacation in Napa Valley completely relaxed and rejuvenated.

Best travel apps for solo female travelers.

Porto, Portugal – A Top Destination for Solo Female Travelers Who Love Food and Wine

Wandering around the city streets in Porto is simple for solo female travelers. This incredible destination is quite safe with its friendly locals. Of course, you should always keep a few safety tips in mind while traveling solo as a female. But you shouldn’t have any difficulties in this part of the world.

Once you have explored the city streets, venture out for a wine tour in the Douro Valley. Within the valley, you can sit in wine cellars while sipping on port wine. Or tour each vineyard, while learning how each winery grows their grapes and makes wine.

Don’t skip out on the seafood at the local restaurants during your solo female vacation in Porto. The seafood is always fresh and tastes great with port wine.

Tips every solo female traveler should know.

Willamette Valley, Oregon

Solo female travelers will love the food and wine options available in Willamette Valley in Oregon. This laidback destination offers gorgeous views of the mountains and valleys in between sips of wine.

Your solo female vacation in Oregon’s wine country will include so much more than wine tastings, farm to table foods, and cooking classes. In between all those adventures, you can participate in plenty of outdoor activities.

I can find tours for the activities you want to do. Or I can arrange for you to do a few of them on your own. It will all depend on your comfort levels for each activity, as you check out this part of the world on your own.

Melbourne, Australia

Top Destinations for Solo Female Travelers Who Love Food and Wine - Queen Victoria Market in Melbourne, Australia

Okay, I know almost everyone has Australia on their travel bucket list. While this will be quite the long trip for a solo female traveler, it is worth it for the food, wine, and ample things to do.

In Melbourne, you can explore the Yarra Valley. This valley is known for its fine wines and fresh produce. I recommend taking at least one food and wine tour while traveling in Melbourne as a solo female.

You should also spend time in the local cafes, as you soak up the culture.

I recommend spending time in other parts of Australia during your vacation. I can easily create a personalized itinerary that will have you exploring Sydney, Queensland, and any other destination you wish to see.

Mendoza, Argentina – An Amazing Destination for Solo Female Travelers Who Love Food and Wine

Wine lovers will never want to leave Mendoza, Argentina once they arrive. As a solo female traveler, you will quickly see why this is one of the top destinations for food and wine.

Many of the vineyards offer bike tours, which are unique ways to see the grapes and vines. During these tours, you will get a workout in while trying some of the best wines in this region.

The favorite wine in Mendoza is Malbec. Try a glass while dining on an Argentine steak. Or if you decide to indulge in a different dish, ask your server what they recommend for a drink.

Keep your camera handy, because the Andes Mountains will be in the distance wherever you are in Mendoza. You won’t want to miss any of the spectacular scenery during your solo female vacation in Argentina.

Essential must-have items for solo female travelers.

Bordeaux, France

I am sure you are also not too surprised that Bordeaux made my list of top destinations for solo female travelers who love food and wine. After all, this is one of the world’s most famous wine regions.

You will have plenty of options when it comes to things to do while on vacation in Bordeaux. Within the city limits, you can explore the streets and shop in the local stores.

Out in the country, visit the vineyards and take a wine tour or two. Many of the wineries offer wine tastings. Although, you may prefer the ones that pair the wines with delicious French cuisine.

I highly recommend exploring Bordeaux’s gourmet food scene. Trust me when I say you will do enough walking to avoid gaining any weight while on this solo female vacation in France!

San Sebastian, Spain

San Sebastian may be at the very top of the best destinations for solo female travelers who love food and wine. Although this city is more for food lovers.

A pintxos crawl will have you eating lots of delicious tapas. I recommend trying as many of the Basque dishes as you can while on vacation in this region of Spain.

When you want to find a new wine to drink, venture over to the Rioja region. I can arrange for a wine tour while I am personalizing your itinerary. Visiting local cider houses is another option if your taste buds want to taste something other than wine on this solo female adventure.

These are some of the top destinations for solo female travelers who love food and wine. There are a few others that may be perfect for your solo female vacation needs though. We should chat so I can get an idea of what your perfect food and wine vacation would look like. Then I can personalize an itinerary that includes everything you want for the solo vacation of your dreams.

Did you know that National Pie Day is celebrated on January 23rd every year? This delicious day definitely deserves a little love. And maybe a road trip or family vacation to celebrate some of the best pies in different US destinations. If you have been craving a slice of pie (and who hasn’t!), it may be time to consider taking a trip to one of the best US destinations to visit to celebrate National Pie Day. There are tons of options. And the best part is you can choose a destination that is either close to home or as far away as you wish to travel with your family.

Best US Destinations to Visit to Celebrate National Pie Day

Prattville, Alabama

You may not have had any desire to visit Prattville, Alabama in the past, but if you love pecan pie, it is a must! Down at Uncle Mick’s Cajun Market & Café, you can grab a slice or two of the best pecan pie in the south. When your family is not scarfing down pie for National Pie Day, you will discover plenty of exciting activities to do together in Prattville. I recommend beginning by exploring Wilderness Park. From there, you can all check out the Pratt Cotton Gin Mill, The Prattaugan Museum, and finally, Cooter’s Pond Park.

Bantam, Connecticut

Connecticut isn’t a very large state, so it is possible to eat a little pie in Bantam. You can then venture off to areas like Mystic and Hartford. But a stop in Bantam is a must on National Pie Day. This area of the state is where you will be able to pick up a pumpkin custard tart at Bantam Bread. If you choose to spend more time in Bantam after eating your pie, you have a couple family-friendly options. Your family will love the Space Age Museum and Topsmead State Forest.

Lewes, Delaware

Delaware is another small state that is perfect for road trips and family vacations. If you happen to be in the area for National Pie Day, you must make a stop in Lewes. While the entire state of Delaware is known for its peach pies, no one makes them better than Old World Breads. Unfortunately, this bakery bakes according to the season. So, at this time of the year, you may find yourself ordering a pecan pie or another winter option. No worries, you can always choose to take a family vacation in Lewes during the summer when the peaches are ripe for the picking! And when you are not eating pie, your family will love walking the Rehoboth Beach Boardwalk or exploring the Zwaanendael Museum.

Key West, Florida

Everyone knows that the best key lime pie can be found down in Key West, Florida. If you are craving some of this creamy pie, you must head over to Kermit’s Key West Key Lime Shoppe. And if a family vacation in Key West is not an option for National Pie Day, you can always order a key lime pie from them. They actually ship it to your home. But if you can get down to Key West, make sure the Ernest Hemingway House, Mallory Square, and the Southernmost Point Buoy are on your list of things to do. The kids will love snuggling with Hemingway’s cats. You will love the action within Mallory Square. And everyone will love taking selfies at the buoy!

Island of Oahu, Hawaii

Over on the island of Oahu, you cannot choose just one favorite pie for National Pie Day! With options that include passionfruit pear, pineapple, lilikoi, and guava, your family must simply try them all. Oh, and don’t forget the coconut pies. The ones at the Hawaiian Pie Co. melt in your mouth! I highly recommend taking a family vacation in Hawaii, not only for the pies but the ambiance and thrilling family adventures. If you can keep everyone away from the pie for a few hours, you can all wander through the Dole Pineapple Garden Maze or hike to the summit of Diamond Head. Submarine tours, snorkeling adventures, and of course, luaus will really add a little extra to your family vacation.

Chicago, Illinois

Does your family love French fries? What about chocolate? What would happen if you were to offer your family a chocolate French fry pie? Such a pie exists at Sugargoat Sweets in Chicago, Illinois! But don’t worry if combining chocolate and French fries doesn’t appeal to your family. The owner has you covered with other options like cheesecake pie, pumpkin crunch pie, and choco-lot pie. When you are not indulging in pie, you can walk off a few calories at the Navy Pier or visit the marine life at Shedd Aquarium. Going to the Skydeck of the Willis Tower is another option, but maybe do that before you eat your pie!

Natchitoches, Louisiana

Most families choose to visit New Orleans during a vacation in Louisiana. However, I recommend venturing over to the charming town of Natchitoches when you want a little pie for National Pie Day! A stop at Lasyone’s is a must, but not for sweet, dessert-like pie. This restaurant serves savory meat pies instead. Imagine biting into a pie made with pork and beef, as well as onions, peppers, and Southern seasonings. Once your family has eaten their fill of meat pies, you can continue on your way to New Orleans. But if you choose to stay in the area for a little while longer, make sure the Kaffie-Frederick General Mercantile Store is on your list of places to stop. It is the oldest general mercantile in the state. You never know what you may stumble upon during your visit.

These are some of the best US destinations to visit to celebrate National Pie Day. Do you know of any other destinations families should visit for some tasty pie? I would love to hear about them, so I can share them with other travelers. I would also love to plan a family vacation for you, so you can taste some of these fabulous pies.

So, are you ready to plan a family vacation to visit some of the best US destinations to celebrate National Pie Day?

What are your first thoughts when you bite into a buttery and flaky croissant? Do you feel like you have finally reached that moment of peace and contentment? Do you at least feel like you have escaped the rest of the world? Whether or not that is the case, the one thing you probably do consider when eating croissants is where you think they came from. Most people think of France when they think of croissants. But croissants were made in Vienna long before they arrived in France. And honestly, these tasty treats have been around since the time of the Renaissance. Those croissants were much different than the crescent-shaped treats you are used to devour today though. The yeasty options of the past were pushed aside for the puffs that can now be filled with anything from chocolate and almond paste to ham, vegetables and different types of cheese. As you ponder your options for your next croissant, let’s discover my top 3 destinations in France for National Croissant Day.

My Top 3 Destinations in France for National Croissant Day

Paris

Of course, you cannot choose to take a family vacation in France and not see the gorgeous city of Paris. The City of Light, and love and romance, holds many options for reconnecting with your family. As well as numerous bakeries filled with delicious croissants. I recommend you spend your time in Paris exploring the art museums, shopping along Champs Élysées, and taking in the views from the top of the Eiffel Tower.

In between all those adventures, you can wander along the River Seine with your family as you eat one croissant after another. It is best to purchase croissants from different bakeries in the city, so you can find your personal favorite. If you are struggling to determine which bakeries you should enter on National Croissant Day, I recommend starting with either Laurent Duchene or Des Gateaux et du Pain. They are both off the beaten path but so worthy of the journey.

Chamonix

Skiers will love the mountains in this area of France. But that doesn’t mean your family must love to ski in order to take a family vacation in Chamonix. Those who do not love the snow can ride the Aiguille du Midi cable car to see the countryside, and mountains, from a different vantage point. And when the snow disappears, this is an excellent destination in France for hiking and biking.

Shopping at Chamonix Village is a must, as is a stop at the crystal museum, Musée des Cristaux. If you want to have a true adventure during your family vacation in France, then a trip to Mer de Glace should be arranged. This massive glacier is more than four miles long. You must take a train to see this stunning natural wonder. I can arrange this while planning your vacation in France for National Croissant Day.

Carcassonne

Fairy tales were probably common in your home during story time when your kids were younger. Well, if you want to bring back those memories during your family vacation in France, I recommend visiting Carcassonne. This fortified city looks exactly like it might if it were on the pages of a fairy tale book. It is a medieval castle that has been considered a UNESCO World Heritage Site since 1997.

Besides the castle, your family can see the Basilica of Saint-Nazaire, the Great Well, the House of Chivalry, and so much more. I recommend staying in the area until late in the day, so you can see the castle and the rest of the city lit up under the dark sky.

These are my top three destinations in France. You will want to consider each one, as well as others, when you plan a family vacation there in honor of National Croissant Day. I can recommend other areas of France too, so you can choose the perfect destination for your family.

So, are you ready to plan an amazing family vacation in France in honor of National Croissant Day?

If you said yes, I would like to invite you to schedule a planning session with me by clicking here. You will then be taken directly to my digital calendar to schedule a time that is convenient for you.
