Planning a memorable family vacation where everyone can enjoy themselves can be a challenge. But in 2025, the best destinations for multigenerational travel are making it easier than ever to create unforgettable experiences for the whole family. Today, I am sharing some family friendly vacation destinations with you. These destinations offer sun-soaked beaches, cultural experiences, and outdoor adventures. Basically, something for everyone in your family to enjoy, while creating lifelong memories. Let’s start exploring the top destinations that cater to multigenerational travelers.

Best Destinations for Multigenerational Travel in 2025: Top Family Friendly Getaways

Alaska – Best Destination for Multigenerational Travel in 2025

Best Destinations for Multigenerational Travel in 2025: Top Family Friendly Getaways - Family Near a Glacier in Alaska

One of the best destinations for multigenerational travel in 2025 is Alaska. A vacation in Alaska promises adventures filled with discovery, shared experiences, and lasting memories.

There are quite a few options for how your family experiences this state. You can simply fly to one of the major cities. Or you can cruise to different ports.

If you choose the latter, I recommend small ship cruises. These cruise ships can reach areas where the larger cruise ships can’t reach. Plus, your family will receive more personalized experience options like kayaking near glaciers and guided shore excursions.

Other activities to consider during your family vacation in Alaska include dog sledding, wildlife viewing in Denali and Kenai Fjords National Parks, and guided tours of glaciers.

Another fabulous way to explore Alaska is to take a ride on the Alaska Railroad. This train travels almost five hundred miles throughout the state’s spectacular landscape. Your family can disembark at the numerous stops to participate in activities.

Check out these bucket list destinations in Alaska for your next family vacation.

Galapagos Islands

The Galapagos Islands are a dream destination for many travelers. So, if you are traveling with multiple generations, you might as well choose a dream destination for creating memories!

Once-in-a-lifetime adventures can be experienced during a vacation in the Galapagos Islands. Plus, I can help arrange family friendly and eco-friendly tours for your multigenerational vacation.

Consider a visit to the Charles Darwin Research Station to learn about conservation as a family. Island hopping excursions allow everyone to see more of the islands, while exploring diverse ecosystems together.

Of course, you won’t want to skip snorkeling with sea lions and spending time with giant tortoises while on vacation with your family in the Galapagos Islands.

Use my travel guide to the Galapagos Islands for your multigenerational vacation.

Lisbon, Portugal

Best Destinations for Multigenerational Travel in 2025: Top Family Friendly Getaways - Tram 28 in Lisbon, Portugal

Lisbon is a city that offers charm, cultural activities, and family friendly activities. Which is why it is one of the best destinations for multigenerational travel in 2025.

I recommend starting with a ride on Tram 28 to check out the city’s neighborhoods. This is an excellent way to learn where restaurants and attractions are located throughout the city. After all, you never know when you will see something interesting to return to later.

The whole family will love spending time at Oceanário de Lisboa. This is one of the largest aquariums in Europe. You should plan on spending at least a few hours there, as you all check out the marine life.

A family friendly Fado show is an excellent way to listen to traditional Portuguese music during your vacation.

Banff, Canada

You won’t need to travel too far from the US to experience one of the best family-friendly vacation destinations in 2025. Banff, Canada offers year-round family fun. And this year, there are more family oriented outdoor activities within Banff National Park.

The entire family will love riding the Banff Gondola. Check out incredible views during your ride. There are also interactive exhibits that will capture everyone’s attention.

Everyone should be able to walk the trails at Johnston Canyon. These are easy scenic walks that are ideal for families.

If you want to see this area of Canada from a different perspective, go canoeing on Lake Louise. No matter what you do during your family vacation in Banff, keep an eye out for bears, elk, and mountain goats. Wildlife is everywhere in this area, so it is almost guaranteed you will see something.

Sydney, Australia

Sydney, Australia is one of the best destinations for multigenerational travel in 2025. Although, you can visit anywhere in this country with your family and have an amazing time.

If you want to start your vacation in Sydney on a more relaxed note, I recommend taking a Sydney Harbour cruise. This is an excellent way to see the city’s sights from a different perspective. Plus, you get to relax after your long flight.

While younger kids may not appreciate the cultural aspects of the Sydney Opera House, you should still take the time for a behind the scenes tour. If a performance is happening during your visit, the grandparents can enjoy it one night. Or the grandparents can watch the kids while the parents attend.

A day at the beach is a must while on a family vacation in Australia. Bondi Beach is one of the best beaches for families. While you can spend the entire day on the sand building sandcastles, there are other options. Consider a coastal walk. Or take the family-friendly surfing lessons that are offered.

Check out these other family friendly activities in Australia for your vacation.

Yellowstone National Park

Family Walking Around the Grand Prismatic Spring in Yellowstone National Park

There are sixty-three national parks to visit in the US. However, Yellowstone National Park is one of the best family friendly vacation destinations. This is because there are plenty of activities your family can do outdoors during your vacation.

I recommend taking one of the wildlife safaris to see bison, elk, and bears. The guides will ensure you don’t miss any of the wildlife that lives within this national park.

The kids will love the engaging activities offered with the junior ranger programs. And parents and grandparents will love learning along with the kids or sharing the knowledge they already have.

Some hikes in Yellowstone National Park may be too difficult for older adults or those with limited mobility. Thankfully, you can drive to sights like the Old Faithful Geyser. You will need to time your visit properly though, or you will miss the eruption of this geyser.

Costa Rica – Unique Best Destination for Multigenerational Travel in 2025

Eco-adventures and nature-filled experiences will bring your family closer during a vacation in Costa Rica. The activity that should be at the top of your list during your family vacation in Costa Rica is visiting Arenal Volcano National Park. You can hike along the trails there before soaking in the natural hot springs.

Depending on the time of year you visit, your family may be able to witness sea turtle nesting in Tortuguero National Park. This unforgettable moment happens between July and October each year. However, peak activity occurs between July and August.

Guided wildlife tours are available in the Monteverde Cloud Forest. Ziplining adventures are another option in this area of Costa Rica.

The kids will beg for time at the beach during your Costa Rica vacation. The beach Manuel Antonio is your best option. The kids can play in the gentle waves, while the adults relax on the sand.

Barcelona, Spain

Is your family searching for diverse activities for your multigenerational vacation in 2025? If you are, I recommend adding Barcelona, Spain to your list of places to visit. Barcelona offers a vibrant mix of architecture, culture, and beachside fun.

Adults can wander around Park Güell to see the whimsical designs of Gaudi. The kids can climb and play during this time, so they won’t be bored as the adults marvel at what they see.

When everyone gets hungry, I recommend going to La Boqueria Market. This market has a lively atmosphere. And you can try many of the local delicacies, which ensures you will no longer be hungry. Oh, and those samples may get your kids to try new foods they wouldn’t try back home.

If your family has the energy to stay out later one night, head over to the Magic Fountain of Montjuïc. The light and water show at this fountain will captivate the attention of everyone in your family.

There will be plenty of time for you to lounge on a beach while on a family vacation in Barcelona. However, the most family friendly beach is Barceloneta Beach. So, you may want to choose to visit that one the most during your vacation.

Check out the best things to do in Barcelona during your multigenerational vacation.

Hawaii

Multigenerational Family on the Beach While on Vacation

All the Hawaiian Islands are perfect for family vacations. However, it is important you decide which Hawaiian Island is perfect for your multigenerational vacation in 2025. I usually recommend Maui and Oahu. But we can discuss which islands will best fit your family’s needs.

Pearl Harbor Memorial is usually one of the favorite attractions for a Hawaiian family vacation. This tour will share many invaluable insights into that historical time.

Interactive experiences showcasing Hawaiian traditions can be seen at the Polynesian Cultural Center. And there is no better way to explore the Molokini Crater than going on a snorkeling adventure.

Surfing is a popular activity in Waikiki, and the rest of Hawaii. Adventurous members of your family will want to take lessons, while the others sit back and watch.

Rome, Italy

Imagine visiting a destination where you can experience the past each day, while enjoying delicious cuisine in between each stop. It is completely possible when you choose to take your multigenerational vacation in Rome, Italy. Plus, this best family friendly vacation destination promises enhanced guided tours and family friendly museums for 2025.

I recommend having me secure your spot for a Colosseum tour while I am planning your multigenerational vacation. This will ensure you can skip the line when you arrive. And you will get to enjoy an interactive tour filled with gladiator stories that will thrill each family member.

I can do the same for Vatican City, so you don’t spend most of your time waiting in line. This will give you more time to admire the Sistine Chapel and St. Peter’s Basilica.

A bike ride through the Villa Borghese Gardens will allow you to see a beautiful spot in the city. I recommend bringing a picnic lunch with you to extend your time in these gardens.

There are plenty of cooking classes you can take while on a family vacation in Rome. If your kids are old enough, you can all take one together to learn how to make fresh pasta.

London, England

Harry Potter fans will love going on vacation to London, England. So, if your kids are hesitant to spend time with you and their grandparents, tell them you are going on a Harry Potter adventure. Their moods will change dramatically. Especially when you have me schedule a Harry Potter Studio Tour for your family.

I can also arrange tours of London, so you can all see Big Ben, London Eye, Buckingham Palace, and Kensington Gardens. Over at the Tower of London, take the interactive tours to ensure history is brought to life for your family.

A day of rest can be experienced in Hyde Park. You can all enjoy a family picnic or go paddle boating.

Orlando, Florida – Popular Best Destination for Multigenerational Travel in 2025

You must have known that Orlando would be on this list of best destinations for multigenerational travel in 2025. After all, it is home to Disney World and Universal Studios.

There are new attractions and activities coming to both these theme parks in 2025. Grandparents will feel nostalgic, as they take the grandkids on the rides they took you on when you were little. Teens will love the thrilling ride options. And you will all stand and wave, as characters walk by during the parades.

Over at Discovery Cove, you can swim with dolphins and snorkel in tropical lagoons. Creating memories will be easy when you take the time to visit with the marine life at Discovery Cove.

There are plenty of nearby attractions to consider when you take a family vacation in Orlando. Kennedy Space Center is one of those attractions. This is an excellent option for anyone who dreams of flying to the moon one day.

Check out these amazing things to do in Orlando during your next multigenerational vacation.

When it comes to planning a memorable vacation that caters to all ages, the best destinations for multigenerational travel in 2025 offer something for everyone. These destinations create opportunities for families to bond, learn, and relax together. Whether your family prefers cultural experiences, outdoor adventures, or simply soaking up the sun on the beach, these family friendly vacation spots ensure every generation has an unforgettable experience. I recommend considering these remarkable destinations to create lasting memories that will be cherished for years to come.

Are you dreaming of a family beach vacation? Have you always wanted to visit the Big Island of Hawaii? Well, the Island of Hawaii doesn’t have as many beaches as some of the other Hawaiian Islands. However, the beaches on the Island of Hawaii are some of the best beaches in the entire world. So, if you are ready to sink your toes into some soft sand and take long walks with your family, you must visit at least one of these beaches! Of course, when you are planning your family vacation in Hawaii, you may have no idea which beach should be at the top of your list. Thankfully, I know a few of the best beaches in Hawaii.

Experience the Best Beaches in Hawaii During Your Family Vacation

Makalawena Beach – Best Lava Beaches in Hawaii

This gorgeous beach in Hawaii will make you work for the soft sand, sparkling water, and gorgeous views. But the twenty-minute walk over cooled lava is worth every second! The path to the beach is marked and has been worn down after all these years.

Palm trees create a shaded area at Makalawena Beach. There are also lumps of lava scattered on top of the sand. This is one of the best beaches in Hawaii that many people do not visit. So, it is possible that your family will be the only people enjoying the sand, views, and the occasional wild chicken.

Papakolea Beach

Experience the Best Beaches in Hawaii During Your Family Vacation - Papakolea Beach on the Big Island of Hawaii

Papakolea Beach is also known as Green Sand Beach or Pu’u o Mahana Beach. Olivine is the precious stone that creates the green sand. As the water from the ocean erodes the cinder cone, the olivine from the cinder joins the sand to create the green color.

This is not an easy beach to reach. But again, it is worthwhile just for the opportunity to see the green sand. Especially if you are searching for tranquility during your family beach vacation.

Waialea Beach

This beach is located on Waialea Bay. It is not too far from Hapuna Beach. This is one of the most popular beaches on the Island of Hawaii. However, it is not a beach that is simple to access. Therefore, you must plan your visit carefully.

It is best to visit this Hawaiian beach during the summer months. The reason for this is the winter brings in strong surf, which causes the beach to erode. The tide pools are perfect for young children. Plus, everyone will enjoy the gentle waves of the ocean during the summer.

Hapuna Beach – One of the Best Beaches in Hawaii

Experience the Best Beaches in Hawaii During Your Family Vacation - Hapuna Beach on the Big Island of Hawaii

One of the best beaches in Hawaii for swimming and snorkeling is Hapuna Beach. Your family will love the long stretch of sand.

This is the perfect beach for lounging while reading a book while the kids build sandcastles. The crystal-clear water is exactly what you will be looking for when you want to swim with the marine life. And snorkelers will want to swim the mile down to Waialea Bay to get the most marine life action.

See the other family friendly beaches in Hawaii for your next family vacation.

Punalu’u Black Sand Beach

Punalu’u Black Sand Beach is another fabulous colored sand beach in Hawaii. As the name implies, the sand on this Hawaiian beach is black.

I recommend wearing shoes when walking along this beach, because the sand gets really hot under the sun. This isn’t the best beach in Hawaii for swimming or snorkeling. But it is the perfect place to watch the Hawaiian green sea turtles as they are sunbathing.

Richardson Beach Park – One of the Best Family Friendly Beaches in Hawaii

Families with young children, as well as those who want to swim at the beach, will love Richardson Beach Park. Lava has naturally created the sea walls at this beach. Those walls keep the water in the pools and coves calm throughout the year.

When your family is not swimming or snorkeling, you may find yourselves out in a kayak.

Check out these other volcanic beaches in Hawaii during your family vacation!

Honaunau Bay

The beach at Honaunau Bay is right next to Pu’uhonua o Honaunau Park. This beach is quite crowded. So, it is best to arrive early. This is especially true if you want to claim a spot on the sand.

Most people spend all their time in the water at this beach, because it is the best spot for snorkeling. Therefore, if you don’t find that large of a sandy spot when you arrive, don’t worry. Simply throw your towels down and start in on the water fun!

Now that you know all the best beaches in Hawaii, you can easily determine which one will be best for your family vacation. You may even decide that a couple of these beaches in Hawaii must make your list of things to do. The good news is that since I am customizing your family vacation for you, it is easy to add everything you want to your itinerary!

Now that the holiday season is coming to an end, you may be dreaming about a little time away with family. Somewhere warm with lots of opportunities to relax on a soft sandy beach. Well, soft sandy beaches are everywhere on the islands of Antigua and Barbuda. So, you will never be more than a few steps away from one when you are vacationing there. While all the beaches are phenomenal, there are a couple on each island that offers something unique and magical. Therefore, those are the ones you will definitely want to make time for. Allow me to plan an extraordinary family vacation on any of the Antigua and Barbuda beaches for your next trip!

Amazing Antigua and Barbuda Beaches for Your Family Vacation

Best Beaches in Antigua

Half Moon Bay

Amazing Antigua and Barbuda Beaches for Your Family Vacation - Half Moon Bay Beach in Antigua

Half Moon Bay can be found along the southern end of Antigua. It is not as crowded as some of the other beaches on the island. Plus, it is one of the best Antigua and Barbuda beaches you can visit.

You can simply relax on the pink sand on this beach. But you can also venture out into the water for a little swimming and surfing. It is important to note that the water can get rough at this beach. So, you should be cautious at all times and never go out if it is too rough.

Check out a few of the best things to do in Antigua and Barbuda besides the beaches.

Hawksbill

There are four different beaches at Hawksbill. So, you can always find a stretch of sand to meet your needs.

You should be aware that the fourth beach is clothing optional. You won’t want to choose that one if you are vacationing with children.

A little way out in the water are craggy red rocks. I recommend taking a picture of them during your time there. The water is a lot calmer at these beaches, so swimming can easily be done by the smallest of vacationers.

Dickenson Bay

This beach can be found to the north of St. John’s. It is the perfect choice if you are traveling with smaller children.

There is a plethora of water sports at this beach. And the beach bars and restaurants are perfect for when everyone is hungry. I recommend strolling along this beach at night because it is one of the best places to watch the sunset on Antigua.

Four foods to try when you are relaxing near Antigua and Barbuda beaches during your family vacation.

Best Beaches in Barbuda

Barbuda Pink Sand

Amazing Antigua and Barbuda Beaches for Your Family Vacation - Girl Making Sand Angel on Pink Sand Beach in Barbuda

Have you ever heard about Barbuda’s pink sand beach? It does exist for real and it’s of unimaginable beauty, still wild and untouched. And yes, if you can only choose one, this is the best of the Antigua and Barbuda beaches!

There are only a few hotels on the island. You can get there by ferry on your own or on an organized tour. I would certainly stay there a couple of nights, to enjoy it fully.

As a side note, besides basking on the dreamy beaches Barbuda offers one of the biggest Frigate bird sanctuaries in the world. Thousands of Frigate birds gather during mating season. You will see their inflated red necks which serve the males to attract females. It’s simply a spectacular show to watch.

Imagine making memories with your family while relaxing on one of these beautiful Antigua or Barbuda beaches. Or participating in one of the many watersports. You will cherish these memories forever!

Are you dreaming of a family vacation in paradise? There are so many amazing tropical islands you can visit that your family will love. However, I recommend the tropical islands of Antigua and Barbuda. These islands are located in the heart of the Caribbean. They are about a thousand miles to the east of Jamaica. And half that distance from Trinidad on the coast of South America. If you’re dreaming of a tropical island vacation, it may be time to consider traveling to Antigua and Barbuda! Today, I am sharing a couple things you should consider doing when you choose Antigua and Barbuda travel for your next family vacation.

Dreaming of Antigua and Barbuda Travel for Your Family Vacation?

Antigua Travel

The island of Antigua was born out of the sea by a volcano about 30 million years ago. Therefore, this is a young island in geologic time.

Reefs formed on the northern flank of this volcanic island. Therefore, the greater part of Antigua is low lying and is composed of limestone rock.

The highest point of Antigua is 1,319 feet in the south-west and is called Boggy Peak.

Antigua is 108 square miles. The population of this island is almost 80,000.

Since there are so many people on this island, your family will never have a problem finding something to do. This is why so many people like yourself choose Antigua travel over Barbuda.

Things to Do in Antigua

Visit Nelson’s Dockyard National Park – One of the Best Things to Do While Traveling to Antigua and Barbuda

Dreaming of Antigua and Barbuda Travel for Your Family Vacation - Nelson's Dockyard National Park in Antigua

Nelson’s Dockyard National Park is one of UNESCO’s World Heritage Sites. This 18th century British naval base is still in use today.

I recommend exploring the museum to learn more about the maritime past of Antigua. Then head out on a hike on one of the trails within Shirley Heights. Those hiking trails offer gorgeous panoramic views of the island.

Relax on a Beach – Much Easier in Antigua than Barbuda During Travel!

There are 365 beaches on Antigua. This is quite a few more beaches than Barbuda has for your family vacation.

Dickenson Bay is the perfect spot if your family loves beach activities and cocktails. Half Moon Bay is known for its pink sand. And Darkwood Beach is one of the best beaches for snorkeling.

I recommend doing a little beach hopping, so you can find your favorite beach in Antigua for your family vacation.

Here are the top beaches for Antigua and Barbuda travel.

Explore St. John’s

The capital city of Antigua is St. John’s. This beautiful city is full of historical buildings, St. John’s Cathedral, and local markets.

I recommend shopping in the local markets. They are also the perfect place to purchase fresh local produce and duty-free items.

You won’t find as large of a city when you travel to Barbuda, so if you want to experience this area, you must visit Antigua.

Foods you must try while traveling to Antigua and Barbuda.

Barbuda Travel

Barbuda became separated from Antigua by about 28 miles when the sea-levels of the world rose considerably in about 10,000 BC. This island is 62 square miles in size.

The limestone Highlands of Barbuda rise to only 125 feet. It is relatively unpopulated with only approximately 1,300 people.

Today, parts of Barbuda are geologically flooded, which forms interesting lagoons. This island may be the largest breeding and nesting colony of the Magnificent Frigate Bird in the world.

Barbuda supports a tremendous diversity of native habitats. Reef-fringed Barbuda may be one of the best kept ecological secrets in the West Indies. The island’s rugged scenery, beautiful beaches, (one at least 12 miles long), lagoons, and abundant wildlife may be a resource as valuable as its fisheries.

Traveling to Barbuda is perfect if you want solitude and plenty of time to relax. Of course, you can combine travel to Antigua and Barbuda to get the best of both worlds during your family vacation!

Things to Do in Barbuda

Visit the Frigate Bird Sanctuary – Unique Experience in Barbuda Not Antigua Travel

Dreaming of Antigua and Barbuda Travel for Your Family Vacation - Male Frigate Bird in Barbuda

The Frigate Bird Sanctuary is located within Codrington Lagoon. This sanctuary is one of the world’s largest nesting colonies for frigate birds.

Take a boat tour through the lagoon to see these fabulous birds up close.

Have Fun on Pink Sand Beach

There may not be as many beaches on Barbuda, but that doesn’t mean you won’t have fun in the sand during your family vacation.

Over at Pink Sand Beach, your family can have plenty of adventures. Walk along the crushed coral shoreline. Snorkel in the crystal-clear water to see marine life. Or take a scenic boat tour to learn more about the area.

There is so much happening in Antigua and Barbuda. You can do it all or do as little as you want during your family vacation.

Check out these other tropical destinations for your next family vacation!

The fall weather is arriving in many parts of the US. If you are not a fan of the cold, you may be dreaming about your next family beach vacation. Especially if you prefer to sink your toes in the sand instead of a pile of leaves or a snow pile. Thankfully, you can start planning your next family beach vacation now. One of the best times to enjoy sandy beaches is on National Beach Day, which is August 30. However, you do not need to limit your vacation options to that single date. Instead, you can choose to visit one of the best beaches during the vacation dates that work best for your family. Today, I am sharing the best beaches for family vacations.

National Beach Day – Best Beaches for a Family Vacation

Hot Water Beach on the Coromandel Peninsula in New Zealand – An Amazing Destination for Celebrating National Beach Day

National Beach Day – Best Beaches for a Family Vacation - Hot Water Beach in New Zealand

Hot Water Beach is one of the best beaches to visit for family vacations. There are volcanoes near this beach. And those volcanoes created large underground reservoirs that are now filled with extremely hot water. The water slowly seeps to the surface, still feeling quite hot when it gets there.

Your family can easily access these hot springs during low tide. I recommend taking a shovel with you, so you can create your own mini spa in the middle of paradise.

Oh, and the seasons in New Zealand are opposite what we have here in the US. Therefore, you will love a family vacation there on National Beach Day. Since it will be winter, the hot water at this beach will feel amazing!

Byron Bay in Australia

Surfing is popular at this beach in Australia. In between waves, your family can wander through the bookstores. There are plenty of cafes for grabbing a bite to eat. And pubs for when you need a pint or two.

I recommend visiting with your family during the Byron Bay Bluesfest. Yes, it will be more crowded. But the experience, and music, are worth the memories you will make with your family.

Arashi Beach in Aruba

Arashi Beach is located on the northern side of Aruba. The sands are basically untouched since ships are no longer sailing too close to this area.

One of the best things to do at this beach is snorkeling. There is a four-hundred-foot German freighter wreck not too far from the shoreline. Venture out to the shipwreck with your family and see what you can all discover together.

Punalu’u Beach in Hawaii – Celebrate National Beach Day in Paradise

Punalu'u Beach in Hawaii - A Black Sand Beach

There are multiple beaches on the Big Island of Hawaii. But none of them will compare to Punalu’u Beach.

Yes, you will need to walk for approximately twenty minutes along a wooded dirt trail to reach this undeveloped beach. The black sand you reach will be worth every step. And possibly the moans and groans from the kids who may not want to walk that far.

Snorkeling is a popular family activity at this beach. Make sure you take your gear, so you can be out amongst the turtles, dolphins, and whale sharks.

Punalu’u Beach is an amazing beach to visit for National Beach Day. However, there really is no bad time to visit paradise on any of the Hawaiian Islands during a family vacation.

Diani Beach in Kenya

Diani Beach is more than twelve miles long. Palm trees line the sandy shoreline and provide just enough shade.

Kite surfing is popular at this beach. Lessons are available if your family wants to learn.

Oh, and while there are hotels and supermarkets nearby, there is one other thing that is so much better. Monkeys are everywhere on this beach. So, be prepared for an encounter or two.

Imagine taking a few family photos with monkeys dotting the background. Think about the comments you will get if you send that out as your next holiday card!

Trunk Bay in St. John in the US Virgin Islands – No Passport Required to Celebrate National Beach Day at Trunk Bay

St. John is a beautiful destination on its own. But when you visit Trunk Bay, you will discover a beach that looks better than the postcard pictures in a store.

The sand is soft. This is perfect for sinking your toes in the sand. And the blue water will add to your fun in the sun. There isn’t a better place to celebrate National Beach Day!

I recommend heading into the water and snorkeling. All the things you see underwater are labeled with plaques. That means you will know what everything is during this family adventure.

Natadola Beach in Fiji

Horseback Riding on the Beach at Sunset

It can be difficult to choose the best Fiji Island for your family’s vacation. But if you happen to be near Natadola Beach, you must spend the day there.

You can swim all day and all night. Although, I recommend taking a horseback ride at sunset. It really adds to the experience. And the memories you will make.

Sun Island Beach in Maldives

Celebrities and honeymooners can often be spotted on this beach in the Maldives. However, that shouldn’t stop you from enjoying a fabulous family vacation there.

You will discover an amazing coral reef nearby. So, grab your snorkeling gear and check out the marine life.

Matira Beach in Bora Bora in Tahiti

Matira Beach is such a perfect beach. It is a little hard to believe it is real.

Your family can spend hours relaxing on the sand during your beach vacation. Or you can search for black pearls. Check out the World War II memorabilia. And feed the sharks.

Whatever you decide to do to make memories during this family vacation.

Anse Source d’Argent in La Digue in Seychelles

You will find this beach in Seychelles on the island of La Digue. The white and pink sand creates a sparkling destination for sinking your toes in the sand.

The water is nice and calm at Anse Source d’Argent. It is the perfect destination for swimming and snorkeling. Oh, and you will see many other families celebrating National Beach Day if you decide to visit then.

Copacabana Beach in Brazil

Copacabana Beach is one of the most iconic beaches in the world. It is also the place to be on New Year’s Eve every year.

That one night of the year is when the beach is packed with no room to move, as the party continues all night long.

Although, this beach is crowded most of the time. Keep that in mind if you decide it is the best beach to visit for your next family vacation. Especially if you visit on National Beach Day.

Mohegan Bluffs in New Shoreham in Rhode Island

You must plan your family beach vacation at Mohegan Bluffs carefully if you want fun in the sun and warm weather. This beach in on Block Island. So, you must take a ferry to get there.

When you reach the top of the bluffs, there are one hundred forty-one steps down to the sand. Yes, it is a lot of work for a beach day. But it is worth it to spend a little time away from the hustle and bustle of the mainland.

Reynisfjara Beach in Iceland – Perfect Place to Sink Your Toes in Black Sand for National Beach Day

National Beach Day – Best Beaches for a Family Vacation - Reynisfjara Beach in Iceland

Iceland has a few incredible beaches. Reynisfjara happens to be one of the best beaches to visit for National Beach Day.

It has deep black sand, offshore rock formations, and a massive cave. Nearby is the village of Vik. That village is where the Icelandic Lava Show is held.

Your family can also go on glacier hikes and take ice cave treks in Vik. Talk about a family vacation with lots of different family activities for making memories!

These are some of the best beaches to visit around the world for National Beach Day. One of these beaches will be perfect for sinking your toes in the sand during a family vacation!

Are you looking to enjoy family friendly fun in the sun activities this year? A beach vacation might be exactly what you, and your family, needs. After all, being stressed out at work isn’t any fun. And neither is missing time with your family. So, take advantage of a quick family vacation and wiggle your toes in the sand at a favorite beach destination. You can even choose a new destination for this year’s family beach vacation. The options are practically endless when it comes to beach vacations and making memories with the people you love.

Beach Vacations for Family Friendly Fun in the Sun Activities

Bandon’s Beaches in Oregon

Beach Vacations for Family Friendly Fun in the Sun Activities - Lighthouse at Sunset on Bandon Beach in Oregon

Lots of the beaches in Oregon offer the beauty of the Pacific Ocean. But only Bandon’s Beaches offers a slightly rugged experience. This experience is complete with rocky outcrops, caves, and tidal pools.

Bandon’s Beach is the perfect beach vacation for family friendly fun in the sun activities if you are looking to spend your time exploring.

Your family will love walking along the shoreline, as you all look at the different rock formations. Sand artwork is created during low tide. And kayaking is also a must when exploring the marshes nearby.

Nantucket Beaches in Massachusetts

Nantucket is an island that offers a tranquil experience to those who visit. And there are quite a few beaches to choose from. Plus, plenty of other family activities.

Start your day with a sunrise walk in the sand. Then head out on any of the thirty-five miles of bike trails.

I recommend spending one day at Nantucket’s Whaling Museum. And you can’t go wrong with watching the sunset one night over at Brant Point Lighthouse.

This is one kid-friendly travel destination you won’t want to miss.

Oh, and you should definitely check out the family friendly activities Cape Cod offers for your next vacation!

Monterey Beaches in California

There is almost one hundred miles of shoreline in Monterey. So, you know there will be plenty of space on the sandy beaches. You will even find dog-friendly beaches in Monterey.

Asilomar State Beach and Carmel Beach are two of your options if your dogs join your family vacations.

Swimming, surfing, and snorkeling are all popular family activities for this beach vacation. Whales can be seen quite often from Lovers Point. And Monterey Bay Aquarium is an excellent option on a day you want to be inside.

The Monterey area is perfect for all those summer trips with children to make memories to last a lifetime.

Sanibel Island in Florida

Sanibel Island is right next to Captiva Island in Florida. It is simple to beach hop between the two islands during a vacation in Florida.

When your family is not on the sand looking for shells, you will all be out in the water. Out there, you can swim, snorkel, fish, or relax on a boat.

Want to head to the Caribbean instead for your family vacation? Check out these beaches in Antigua and Barbuda.

Oahu Beaches in Hawaii

Beach Vacations for Family Friendly Fun in the Sun Activities - Mother and Daughter Walking on the Beach Making Memories

One of the most popular Hawaiian Islands is Oahu. There are quite a few beaches in Oahu.

The most popular one is Waikiki Beach. Your beach vacation days can be spent swimming and surfing. Although, you can also simply relax in the sand.

Check out these amazing Hawaiian beaches for your next family vacation with kids.

Bora Bora Beaches

Bora Bora might be a small island, but its beaches pack a huge punch! Matira Beach is perfect for relaxing on the sand.

However, if you prefer gorgeous views, I recommend heading over to the beach at the Four Seasons Resort Bora Bora. There you can look out at Mount Otemanu.

Please, remember to take your camera. This way you won’t miss capturing the views and your amazing family!

Beach Vacation in Fiji

There are too many beaches to count in Fiji. The reason for this is there are so many islands that are perfect for family vacations.

If you choose to take a beach vacation in Fiji, you must first decide on which Fijian Island is best for your family. Once you do that, you can decide which beaches on that island are on your must-visit list.

No matter which island and beaches you choose, your family can snorkel, swim, and enjoy some fun in the sun. Sounds like an amazing family beach vacation to me!

Beaches in Tahiti

The beaches in Tahiti are filled with sparkling white sand. These beaches are also surrounded by crystal clear water. Some beaches are more crowded than others, so you will want to consider your options carefully.

Papenoo Beach is best for surfing. And La Plage de Maui is perfect if you want to spend your time with lots of other people.

Check out these incredible beaches around the world.

Whitsunday Islands Beach Vacation

The Whitsunday Islands are directly off the coast of Australia. This is the best beach vacation when you choose to combine it with a vacation in Australia. There are seventy-four islands within this archipelago. And they all have incredible beaches.

I recommend beginning with Chalkies Beach, Whitehaven Beach, and Betty’s Beach. However, you can add others to your list if time allows.

These are the best beach vacations for family friendly fun in the sun activities. While some of these destinations need to be visited during the summer months, others are a possibility all year long. So, don’t let a busy schedule stop you from planning a vacation you can take during your slower time of the year. Especially since your family can make a few memories at any time of the year!

It’s amazing how when the days begin to get shorter, we start dreaming about the beach. Maybe it’s the sunshine we want to see. Or the warm water, so our family can go swimming.  And of course, let’s not forget about those long walks on the sandy shoreline, as we talk to the people we love the most. Today I want to talk about some of the best non-Caribbean/Mexico beaches that will be perfect for your next family vacation.

The Beach is Calling for Your Next Family Vacation

Hawaii

The Beach is Calling for Your Next Family Vacation - Poipu Beach in Kauai

While it may seem like a bit of a flight, Hawaii is a great option for a family vacation. Each Hawaiian Islands has its own personality. And those islands have hundreds of miles of beaches too. So, it’s hard NOT to fall in love with Hawaii.

If you like the energy and buzz of a bustling city, Waikiki Beach is probably the right choice for you. You’ve got all of the nightlife and energy of Waikiki right there. Yet, you’ve also got the stunning beach right there to put your feet up and enjoy.

Ko Olina Beach is a great beach for families. While it’s one of the few man-made beaches, it’s great for calm water and snorkeling.

With several surf beaches around the island, there really is a beach for everyone.

Moving on to Maui, you’ve got miles of beautiful beaches. Many of them are great for canoeing or paddleboarding.

The beaches of Kaui offer so many great activities. You can snorkel on Poipu Beach. Or how about kayaking on Wailua River.

No matter where in Hawaii you go, you will find great beaches, where you can either sit back and relax or dive right in to enjoy the water.

Check out these amazing family friendly beaches in Hawaii!

Fiji – A Beach Wherever You Look!

The Beach is Calling for Your Next Family Vacation - Beach in Fiji

Who doesn’t want to escape to the South Pacific? The endless views, stunning sunsets, and the most spectacular beaches. Made up of more than 300 islands, Fiji offers a beach for everyone. These islands are well known for some of the most exhilarating surfing. But they are also ideal for romantic escapes with your significant other.

Imagine laying in the hammock of your treehouse, directly on the beach with not a care in the world, and a cold drink in your hand.

A treehouse not your style? Not to worry. How about an overwater bungalow where you leap directly into the water right outside your front balcony, as you watch the fish swim underneath?

Fiji is a bucket-list must visit that you won’t want to miss.

These islands in Fiji are perfect for family vacations.

Cook Islands

If you’re looking for a destination that can let you really let go and escape, then look no further than the Cook Islands. With an assortment of accommodations ranging from basic hotels to self-catering cottages to luxury hotels, there is something for everyone.

The Cook Islands are located between American Samoa and French Polynesia in the South Pacific.

These islands, while independently governed, are closely connected to New Zealand financially. The currency used is the New Zealand dollar, which gives us a great exchange rate.

The Cooks also hold tight to some unique concepts that ensure they remain a quaint desirable destination. They have building laws that state none of the buildings can be taller than a coconut tree.

There are two bus routes, clockwise and counterclockwise. Seriously, that is what you will see on the front of the bus. Many tourists travel using the bus or by renting a scooter.

No matter how you decide to travel around the island, you’ll never have any difficulty reaching the beach.

Also, each Saturday, most people, locals and visitors alike, pour into the center square on Rarotonga for the Farmers Market. This is a great place to stock up on fresh fruits, vegetables, and more for the week ahead.

Ready to travel to Australia? Check out these beaches!

With so many stunning beaches around the world to choose from, it can be overwhelming. These are three of my favorites. But I know you may have your own personal favorites when it comes to a beach vacation. Therefore, don’t feel like I need to personalize your family vacation for my favorite beach. I am more than happy to create the perfect family travel itinerary that includes your favorite beach!

So, are you ready to have me personalize a family vacation itinerary for your next family beach trip?

If you said yes, I would like to invite you to click here to schedule a personalized family vacation planning session with me. When you click this link, you will be taken directly to my digital calendar to schedule a time that is convenient for you.

Are you looking for a way to spend quality time with your kids? Do you want to avoid a vacation where your kids spend the entire time on their phones and social media? I can easily plan a personalized family vacation your kids will love! Imagine making memories with your kids, as you explore Savannah, Georgia. There are so many family-friendly things to do in Savannah. Your kids may not want to do everything on the list of the best things to do in Savannah that I will be sharing with you today. However, with so many options, your kids will agree quite a few of them should be on your personalized itinerary. And you get to make so many memories together during this time away from home.

Check out my Savannah travel guide to learn more about vacationing in this wonderful city!

Plan an Amazing Family Vacation with These Best Things to Do in Savannah

Take a Walk through Forsyth Park

Forsyth Park is a beautiful park in the heart of Savannah. There are thirty acres of space filled with trees, flowers, and a gorgeous fountain. I have found the best time to visit this park is in the early morning hours. There aren’t as many people. It’s quiet. And I can easily drink my cup of coffee while soaking in the silence.

Now, of course, my kids are all grown up. So, they are usually walking in silence next to me drinking their own coffee. Or latte. Or whatever concoction they have recently discovered.

Depending on the age of your kids, you may experience the same thing. Or you may find that your younger kids are more than ready to run off some energy. Thankfully, this is the perfect place to let that happen!

There is a farmer’s market here on Saturdays. And open-air concerts are held in Forsyth Park throughout the year. We can always check the schedule of planned events when I am personalizing your itinerary if you are interested in attending one.

Take an Old Savannah Trolley Tour

Plan an Amazing Family Vacation with These Best Things to Do in Savannah - Old Savannah Trolley

The Old Savannah Trolley is a hop on hop off trolley that takes you to the most popular sights in the city. This is an excellent option if you want to find where everything is located. Or if you want to see many attractions in a short amount of time.

A few of the places you will see at the fifteen different stops include the Sorrel Weed House, Juliette Gordon Low Home, Pirates House, and the Mansion of Forsyth Park. You will also see many of the squares in the city.

Go Shopping at the City Market

The City Market is a wonderful open-air market in Savannah. Shopping here is one of the best things to do in Savannah. The four blocks of the market are full of shops, restaurants, and art galleries. You will even find a bar or two where you can grab a wine slushie or a beer to go.

Visit the Cathedral of St. John the Baptist

This cathedral was originally constructed back in 1876. However, a massive fire destroyed that building in 1898. It only took two years to completely rebuild the cathedral and it has been carefully preserved ever since.

This is one of the top historic sites to visit in Savannah and the United States. I recommend taking a self-guided tour. This will allow you to fully admire the stained glass, as well as the towering spires.

Wander Along River Street

River Street is a beautiful cobblestone street that follows the waterfront. The warehouses on this street have been transformed into different shops and restaurants. The riverwalk is considered one of the most beautiful destinations in Savannah.

I highly recommend going into the candy stores. These candy shops are known for their chocolate pralines. Don’t worry, they sell all types of candy. So, be careful if you let your kids go in there with you. It might add new meaning to kids in a candy shop!

If you are looking to see this area from a different perspective, take a dinner cruise on the river. Dinner cruises, or sunset cruises, on the Georgia Queen are an excellent way to see the scenery and have a little downtime.

Wander Around Bonaventure Cemetery

Savannah is one of the historic cities that is full of ghosts. And you may feel their presence the most at Bonaventure Cemetery. There are more than one hundred acres to explore. So, you will be there for a while.

They do offer tours one Sunday a month. We can try to arrange one, depending on your family vacation schedule.

If you don’t want to take the time to go all the way to Bonaventure Cemetery, check out Colonial Park Cemetery. It is within walking distance of many of the squares in Savannah. This cemetery opened in 1750. Many of the people who died during the yellow-fever epidemic are buried here.

There are many other haunted attractions in Savannah that you can check out during your visit!

Explore Old Fort Jackson

Does your family love history? What about cannons? Well, you can experience both when you choose to visit Old Fort Jackson in Savannah. This fort was constructed back in 1808 and additions were made in 1812.

The fort has been carefully preserved, so it looks practically the same as it did back then. I recommend taking a self-guided tour to learn about the history of this fort. Just make sure you stay long enough to hear a cannon or two going off.

Visit the Juliette Gordon Low Home

If you have a Girl Scout in your family, you will want to take a tour of the Juliette Gordon Low Home. This museum is located in the house where Juliette was born. She also started the Girl Scouts from this house.

You can take a guided tour of this house. However, it is recommended that you purchase tickets in advance. So, let me know if you are interested in visiting and I will arrange for the tickets as I am planning your itinerary.

Take a Ghost Tour

There are ghost tours in Savannah during the day and at night. So, you can choose the one that will fit your family’s needs the most. I can help you find a ghost tour and make all the arrangements for you. This will ensure you don’t miss out on this best thing to do in Savannah during your family vacation.

Want to really incorporate ghosts into your Savannah family vacation? Check out these historic inns in Savannah!

Visit the Mercer-Williams House

Plan an Amazing Family Vacation with These Best Things to Do in Savannah - Mercer-Williams House

Have you ever read “Midnight in the Garden of Good and Evil” by John Berendt? If you have, you already know some of the history of the Mercer-Williams House in Savannah.

If you haven’t, this mansion was originally home to Johnny Mercer. Then Jim Williams purchased it. Williams was the only person in the state to be tried four times for the same murder, which occurred in this house.

You can take a tour of the inside of this house. However, you will not be allowed access to the area where the alleged murder took place.

Eat Ice Cream at Leopold’s

Everyone needs to make sure they grab an ice cream cone from Leopold’s when they are visiting Savannah! This ice cream shop opened in 1919. The lines have been down the street ever since.

This is one of those places you should arrive at early in the morning. They normally open around eleven in the morning and the line starts to form a half hour before that.

While I normally don’t approve of only ice cream for lunch, I have been known to make an exception when in Savannah. Trust me when I say the kids will be happy and will eat every bite!

Dine at the Olde Pink House Restaurant

If you don’t have time for a ghost tour, let me recommend dining at the Olde Pink House Restaurant. This beautiful house has been transformed into a restaurant that has ghostly encounters.

This restaurant serves authentic Southern cuisine. So, your taste buds will be dancing from the very first bite. Just don’t be surprised if you feel the hairs on the back of your neck stand up. It’s probably just a ghost or two trying to steal a bite of your yummy food!

Eat Some Cookies

When you are at the City Market, or down on River Street, you must stop at Byrd’s Cookies. This bakery opened in 1924. Their cookies are the absolute best!

They have a large variety of flavors. Each cookie is the size of a quarter. You can sample almost every single flavor before making your purchase. Although, be warned that if you sample them all, you will go home with a bag of each. Or two bags of each, depending on the size of your family.

Find Some Vinyl at Graveface Records and Curiosities

Are you always looking for new-to-you vinyl? You may be able to find exactly what you’ve been searching for at Graveface Records and Curiosities. Inside, there are crates of records for you to peruse.

If you are lucky, you may catch a show during your visit. You can always check the schedule before heading over.

Relax at the Beach on Tybee Island

Tybee Island is a gorgeous destination that is approximately twenty minutes from downtown Savannah. Spending time at this beach is one of the best things to do in Savannah.

In between time in the sand and the water, you can browse the nearby shops and grab a bite to eat.

These are some of the best things to do in Savannah during a family vacation. I can easily find others for your family, once I know what you are all interested in. Then I can personalize your family vacation itinerary, so you are only doing what you all want to while making those memories that matter.

So, are you ready to have me create a personalized family vacation itinerary for your trip to Savannah or another destination?

If you said yes, I would like to invite you to click here to schedule a personalized family vacation planning session with me. When you click the link, you will be taken directly to my digital calendar to schedule a time that is convenient for you.

Island vacations can be the perfect option for summer getaways, winter escapes, or celebrations. The island vacation destination you choose will depend on the time of year you are taking your family trip. After all, you may not want to visit a Caribbean Island in the middle of hurricane season.  And traveling to French Polynesia probably won’t happen if you only have five days available for your family vacation. Today, I am sharing the amazing island vacations you should consider for your epic family trip. One of them should be exactly what your family is looking for when you want to spend a little time away from home.

Amazing Island Vacations for Your Epic Family Trip

Crete, Greece

You simply cannot go wrong when you visit any of the Greek Islands for a family vacation. While all those islands are amazing, Crete is often considered one of the best. After all, it has pink sand beaches, lush landscape, charming towns, and lots of ancient history.

Head into the town of Rethymnon to purchase items from the handicraft shops. Dine in one of the restaurants that serve authentic Greek cuisine before leaving.

Other fun things to do on this island include visiting the Cove of Balos, checking out the Samaria Gorge, and relaxing on the pink sand at Elafonisi Beach. If time allows, you can also take a boat over to the island of Spinalonga. This island is uninhabited, so you will find the peace and quiet you need.

Lord Howe Island, Australia

Amazing Island Vacations for Your Epic Family Trip - Lord Howe Island in Australia

Island vacations can be a lot of fun. But they are even better when you choose to add an island to your vacation in Australia

Lord Howe Island is quite small. It is only five miles long and one mile wide. Yet, there is plenty to do on the island.

Hike to the summits of both mountains. Relax on any of the dozen beaches. Wander through the rainforest to see the native birds. And snorkel amongst the marine life and coral reefs.

Don’t worry, at the end of each day, you can return to your luxurious accommodations. Basically, a visit to this island will allow you to see what paradise is really like.

Check out this itinerary for a family vacation in Australia and New Zealand. It may include a few amazing activities your family would love during this incredible time away from home!

Big Island, Hawaii

All the Hawaiian Islands are perfect for island vacations with family. However, the Big Island offers everything your family will want for a week or two away from home.

Start by spending time exploring the lava tubes and volcanic formations inside Volcanoes National Park. Enjoy long conversations while drinking Kona coffee. You will get bonus points if you visit a Kona coffee plantation!

More memories will be made while stargazing from the summit of Mauna Kea. Although, you can make similar memories while walking along the black sand at Punalu’u Beach.

The options are practically unlimited when you choose to vacation on this Hawaiian Island.

Galapagos Islands

If you are searching for some of the most stunning islands in the world, I recommend the Galapagos Islands. These islands are the best option when you want to spend time out in nature and in the water. Swim amongst these eighteen islands to see some of the magnificent marine life.

On land, keep an eye open for the Galapagos penguin, blue-footed boobie, flamingos, and marine iguanas. You can do that while spending time on the shoreline, hiking Isla Bartolome, or exploring the Highlands of Santa Cruz.

Then participate in a years’ long tradition of delivering mail to another island. Simply stop at Floreana’s Post Office and pick up mail that needs to be dropped off at the island you are visiting next. This tradition of delivering mail like this has been in place since the 1800s.

There are so many things to do in the Galapagos Islands. Your family will want to check them all off your list during your visit.

Vancouver Island, Canada

Vancouver Island is a popular island in British Columbia, Canada. Most people spend their time in the city of Victoria. However, there are so many places to see on this island. And since Victoria is on the southern tip, those same people miss quite a bit during their stay.

If you want to explore more of this island, you may want to consider staying in Tofino. Or another destination that is near the middle of the island. This way you can drive to the north, south, east, and west to see all the sights on your list.

A couple things you will want to make sure are on your list of things to do on Vancouver Island include whale watching, bear watching, and wandering around the Butchart Gardens.

Mallorca, Spain

Mallorca is the third largest island in Spain. It is part of the Balearic Islands. A visit to this island will have you appreciating the culture that has been preserved for centuries. Your family can spend hours exploring the city streets. Or you can relax on one of the sandy beaches.

Just don’t miss the Serra de Tramuntana region. This is where you can see charming Majorcan villages like Valldemossa.

These are some of the amazing island vacations you will want to consider for your next family trip. There are others and I can share them with you if none of these are of interest to your family. After you have chosen the best island destination for your family vacation, I will personalize an itinerary that will have you all making memories you will cherish forever.

Are you planning an amazing family vacation in Maui? Or do you want to see this fabulous Hawaiian Island with your kids and possibly your grandkids? If you answered yes to either of those questions, there is one activity that must be on your itinerary. That activity is exploring the Road to Hana with your family. This winding road has been wowing visitors for years. It is one of the best ways to see many of the best sights in Maui in a single day. Today, I am sharing my helpful guide to the Road to Hana. My guide is designed to ensure you have a wonderful experience while exploring this area of Maui with your family.

History of the Road to Hana

The Road to Hana was paved back in 1962. Until that time, visitors had to drive along unpaved roads to experience the undeveloped beauty this side of the island is known for.

The Hana Highway, or Road to Hana as it is mainly called, is fifty-two miles long. There are six hundred and twenty curves. So, when you hear someone say the Road to Hana is winding and curvy, they are not lying.

There are also fifty-nine bridges that must be crossed during this drive.

How to Travel on the Road to Hana

You will have a few options for traveling on the Road to Hana. Some people want to tackle the drive themselves. If you decide to do this, make sure the policy of the rental car you are using allows you to drive it on this road. Some rental car companies will not allow anyone to drive their vehicles on the unpaved portion of this highway. This section is past Hana Town and is usually considered the back way to Hana.

If you are unsure, simply ask the rental car company prior to getting in the car.

Oh, and as I learned from my son, you should never ride a motorcycle on the Road to Hana. It is much more difficult than it seems. My son is a good driver and used to motorcycles, and still struggled to keep the bike on the road during this drive.

If you don’t feel like tackling this drive on your own (and I don’t blame you there with all the hairpin turns), you can leave the driving to a professional. There are plenty of tour buses that travel the Road to Hana every day. The only time you will not see them on this road is when there is inclement weather.

Your guide will share lots of information about what you are seeing out the windows and at the areas where you stop.

I usually recommend that all my clients do the tour bus option. It allows for a calmer experience, while also allowing you to see the views instead of solely paying attention to the road.

I can easily arrange for a tour of the Road to Hana as I am personalizing your itinerary for your family vacation in Maui.

How Long to Spend on the Road to Hana

You should expect this trip to take between ten and twelve hours. And that is if you don’t stop at every single destination along the way. If you want to explore this area completely, you may want to spend a night in Hana and then make the drive back the following day.

Most guided tours are between ten and twelve hours.

What to Bring on the Road to Hana

There are a few items you should have with you when you are exploring the Road to Hana with your family. Those items include:

  • Hiking shoes
  • Bathing suit
  • Towel
  • Sunscreen
  • Sunglasses
  • Hat
  • Change of clothes
  • Light jacket
  • Water
  • Snacks
  • First aid kit
  • Cash for farm stand purchases

Best Stops on the Road to Hana

Twin Falls – Mile Marker 2

You won’t need to travel too far on the Road to Hana to reach the first best stop. At mile marker 2, you should get out and walk for five minutes to see Twin Falls. These are some of the most famous waterfalls in Maui.

There is also a farm stand at this mile marker. It is an excellent place to grab some fresh produce to eat during your journey.

Huelo Point Lookout – Mile Marker 4 and 5

Between mile markers 4 and 5, you will see the Huelo Point Lookout. The views of the ocean from this lookout are spectacular.

Rainbow Eucalyptus Trees – Mile Marker 6.7

Grab your camera at this stop, so you can capture the beauty of the Rainbow Eucalyptus trees. These trees have bark that is multi-colored. I guarantee you haven’t seen tree bark like this before!

Waikamoi Ridge Trail and Falls – Mile Marker 9.5 and 10

It is best to wear sneakers or hiking boots when you decide to explore the Road to Hana with your family. When you reach this mile marker, it will be time to get out of the vehicle for a little hike. This looped trail is less than a mile long.

Unfortunately, you will need to get back in the vehicle and drive a half mile longer to see Waikamoi Falls.

Garden of Eden – Mile Marker 10

Mile Marker 10 holds more than just the beauty of Waikamoi Falls. It is also where the Garden of Eden is located. This garden has twenty-six acres of rare Hawaiian plants and flowers.

It will be easy to lose track of time as you are walking along the trails in this garden. You will be tempted to stay longer than planned. However, that may mean skipping another stop on the highway later.

Keanae Peninsula and Arboretum – Mile Marker 16.5

Some people skip this stop on the Hana Highway. If you do stop, you can either take pictures at the Keanae Peninsula or see the flowers at the Arboretum.

Upper Waikani Falls – Mile Marker 19.5

The Upper Waikani Falls are also known as Three Bears Falls. All three waterfalls merge to create a grotto that peaks at seventy feet high. All the water from these waterfalls goes directly into the Wailua Nui Stream.

Parking can be a huge issue at this stop. Some people will skip these waterfalls if they can’t get into the lot. If you are on a tour bus, they may pull over slightly after the parking area. That will allow you to see the waterfalls after crossing over a bridge. It is best to use extreme caution when crossing the bridge. Other cars on the road may not be paying attention and may not see you.

Pua’a Ka’a Falls and State Park – Mile Marker 22.5

Explore the Amazing Road to Hana with Your Family Using My Helpful Guide - Pua'a Ka'a Falls on the Road to Hana at Mile Marker 22

There aren’t many restrooms on the Road to Hana. Pua’a Ka’a State Park has restrooms, so it is always packed. This is a great place to stop for a snack or picnic lunch. You can hike to the nearby Pua’a Ka’a waterfall if you have the time.

Hanawi Falls – Mile Marker 24

One of the best places to see Hanawi Falls is from the Hanawi Bridge. There are only a couple narrow pullouts off the road at these waterfalls. So, parking may be challenging. Don’t be surprised if you need to skip this stop during your journey.

Nahiku Marketplace – Mile Marker 29

You won’t want to miss a stop at the Nahiku Marketplace on the Hana Highway. This marketplace sells all types of food. You can find everything from seafood and tacos to coffee and other beverages. It’s a great place to grab lunch if you didn’t pack one.

Kahanu Garden and Pi’ilanihale Heiau – Mile Marker 31

The largest heiau, or religious structure, on the island is located here. This heiau dates all the way back to the 16th century. After you have seen the heiau, you should explore the botanical garden.

Kaeleku Cave – Mile Marker 31

The Kaeleku Cave is also called the Hana Lava Tube. I recommend heading into this lava tube to see the extraordinary beauty of the cavern. The best part is it will be much cooler inside. You may appreciate it during a really hot day!

Waianapanapa State Park – Mile Marker 32

See how you really don’t need to drive too far to see the next beautiful thing on the Hana Highway?! At mile marker 32, you can stop and explore Waianapanapa State Park. The whole family will love hiking the trails, taking a dip in the freshwater pools, and checking out the views. Don’t forget to leave time to visit Pailoa Bay though. This black sand beach is worthy of your time.

Hana Town – Mile Marker 34

Explore the Amazing Road to Hana with Your Family Using My Helpful Guide - Hana Bay in Hana Town on the Road to Hana

A little time in Hana Town can make you feel like a local. If you are on a tour bus, your tour guide will share what areas of town are best to visit.

Pipiwai Trail – Mile Marker 41.5

The Pipiwai Trail is located within Haleakala National Park. This trail is four miles long. I recommend planning to stay long enough to complete the hike, plus have a little extra time at Waimoku Falls at the end.

Ohe’o Gulch – Mile Marker 42

Not too far from the Pipiwai Trail is Ohe’o Gulch. This area is known for its Seven Sacred Pools. You must hike half a mile to reach these pools.

Wailua Falls – Mile Marker 44.8

Another stunning waterfall in Maui is Wailua Falls. Surprisingly, there is plenty of parking at this waterfall along the Road to Hana.

Hamoa Beach – Mile Marker 51

There are plenty of fabulous beaches in Maui. However, one of the best along this road is Hamoa Beach. This secluded beach is perfect for snorkeling when the water is calm. When the water is rough, you’ll see plenty of people out there on bodyboards.

These are the best stops along the Road to Hana. Between these and the other helpful information I shared; you should enjoy your experience exploring this road with your family. I would love to make sure your family sees this beautiful part of the island by adding it to the itinerary I personalize for your Maui vacation.
