Planning a memorable family vacation where everyone can enjoy themselves can be a challenge. But in 2025, the best destinations for multigenerational travel are making it easier than ever to create unforgettable experiences for the whole family. Today, I am sharing some family friendly vacation destinations with you. These destinations offer sun-soaked beaches, cultural experiences, and outdoor adventures. Basically, something for everyone in your family to enjoy, while creating lifelong memories. Let’s start exploring the top destinations that cater to multigenerational travelers.

Best Destinations for Multigenerational Travel in 2025: Top Family Friendly Getaways

Alaska – Best Destination for Multigenerational Travel in 2025

Best Destinations for Multigenerational Travel in 2025: Top Family Friendly Getaways - Family Near a Glacier in Alaska

One of the best destinations for multigenerational travel in 2025 is Alaska. A vacation in Alaska promises adventures filled with discovery, shared experiences, and lasting memories.

There are quite a few options for how your family experiences this state. You can simply fly to one of the major cities. Or you can cruise to different ports.

If you choose the latter, I recommend small ship cruises. These cruise ships can reach areas where the larger cruise ships can’t reach. Plus, your family will receive more personalized experience options like kayaking near glaciers and guided shore excursions.

Other activities to consider during your family vacation in Alaska include dog sledding, wildlife viewing in Denali and Kenai Fjords National Parks, and guided tours of glaciers.

Another fabulous way to explore Alaska is to take a ride on the Alaska Railroad. This train travels almost five hundred miles throughout the state’s spectacular landscape. Your family can disembark at the numerous stops to participate in activities.

Check out these bucket list destinations in Alaska for your next family vacation.

Galapagos Islands

The Galapagos Islands are a dream destination for many travelers. So, if you are traveling with multiple generations, you might as well choose a dream destination for creating memories!

Once-in-a-lifetime adventures can be experienced during a vacation in the Galapagos Islands. Plus, I can help arrange family friendly and eco-friendly tours for your multigenerational vacation.

Consider a visit to the Charles Darwin Research Station to learn about conservation as a family. Island hopping excursions allow everyone to see more of the islands, while exploring diverse ecosystems together.

Of course, you won’t want to skip snorkeling with sea lions and spending time with giant tortoises while on vacation with your family in the Galapagos Islands.

Use my travel guide to the Galapagos Islands for your multigenerational vacation.

Lisbon, Portugal

Best Destinations for Multigenerational Travel in 2025: Top Family Friendly Getaways - Tram 28 in Lisbon, Portugal

Lisbon is a city that offers charm, cultural activities, and family friendly activities. Which is why it is one of the best destinations for multigenerational travel in 2025.

I recommend starting with a ride on Tram 28 to check out the city’s neighborhoods. This is an excellent way to learn where restaurants and attractions are located throughout the city. After all, you never know when you will see something interesting to return to later.

The whole family will love spending time at Oceanário de Lisboa. This is one of the largest aquariums in Europe. You should plan on spending at least a few hours there, as you all check out the marine life.

A family friendly Fado show is an excellent way to listen to traditional Portuguese music during your vacation.

Banff, Canada

You won’t need to travel too far from the US to experience one of the best family-friendly vacation destinations in 2025. Banff, Canada offers year-round family fun. And this year, there are more family oriented outdoor activities within Banff National Park.

The entire family will love riding the Banff Gondola. Check out incredible views during your ride. There are also interactive exhibits that will capture everyone’s attention.

Everyone should be able to walk the trails at Johnston Canyon. These are easy scenic walks that are ideal for families.

If you want to see this area of Canada from a different perspective, go canoeing on Lake Louise. No matter what you do during your family vacation in Banff, keep an eye out for bears, elk, and mountain goats. Wildlife is everywhere in this area, so it is almost guaranteed you will see something.

Sydney, Australia

Sydney, Australia is one of the best destinations for multigenerational travel in 2025. Although, you can visit anywhere in this country with your family and have an amazing time.

If you want to start your vacation in Sydney on a more relaxed note, I recommend taking a Sydney Harbour cruise. This is an excellent way to see the city’s sights from a different perspective. Plus, you get to relax after your long flight.

While younger kids may not appreciate the cultural aspects of the Sydney Opera House, you should still take the time for a behind the scenes tour. If a performance is happening during your visit, the grandparents can enjoy it one night. Or the grandparents can watch the kids while the parents attend.

A day at the beach is a must while on a family vacation in Australia. Bondi Beach is one of the best beaches for families. While you can spend the entire day on the sand building sandcastles, there are other options. Consider a coastal walk. Or take the family-friendly surfing lessons that are offered.

Check out these other family friendly activities in Australia for your vacation.

Yellowstone National Park

Family Walking Around the Grand Prismatic Spring in Yellowstone National Park

There are sixty-three national parks to visit in the US. However, Yellowstone National Park is one of the best family friendly vacation destinations. This is because there are plenty of activities your family can do outdoors during your vacation.

I recommend taking one of the wildlife safaris to see bison, elk, and bears. The guides will ensure you don’t miss any of the wildlife that lives within this national park.

The kids will love the engaging activities offered with the junior ranger programs. And parents and grandparents will love learning along with the kids or sharing the knowledge they already have.

Some hikes in Yellowstone National Park may be too difficult for older adults or those with limited mobility. Thankfully, you can drive to sights like the Old Faithful Geyser. You will need to time your visit properly though, or you will miss the eruption of this geyser.

Costa Rica – Unique Best Destination for Multigenerational Travel in 2025

Eco-adventures and nature-filled experiences will bring your family closer during a vacation in Costa Rica. The activity that should be at the top of your list during your family vacation in Costa Rica is visiting Arenal Volcano National Park. You can hike along the trails there before soaking in the natural hot springs.

Depending on the time of year you visit, your family may be able to witness sea turtle nesting in Tortuguero National Park. This unforgettable moment happens between July and October each year. However, peak activity occurs between July and August.

Guided wildlife tours are available in the Monteverde Cloud Forest. Ziplining adventures are another option in this area of Costa Rica.

The kids will beg for time at the beach during your Costa Rica vacation. The beach Manuel Antonio is your best option. The kids can play in the gentle waves, while the adults relax on the sand.

Barcelona, Spain

Is your family searching for diverse activities for your multigenerational vacation in 2025? If you are, I recommend adding Barcelona, Spain to your list of places to visit. Barcelona offers a vibrant mix of architecture, culture, and beachside fun.

Adults can wander around Park Güell to see the whimsical designs of Gaudi. The kids can climb and play during this time, so they won’t be bored as the adults marvel at what they see.

When everyone gets hungry, I recommend going to La Boqueria Market. This market has a lively atmosphere. And you can try many of the local delicacies, which ensures you will no longer be hungry. Oh, and those samples may get your kids to try new foods they wouldn’t try back home.

If your family has the energy to stay out later one night, head over to the Magic Fountain of Montjuïc. The light and water show at this fountain will captivate the attention of everyone in your family.

There will be plenty of time for you to lounge on a beach while on a family vacation in Barcelona. However, the most family friendly beach is Barceloneta Beach. So, you may want to choose to visit that one the most during your vacation.

Check out the best things to do in Barcelona during your multigenerational vacation.

Hawaii

Multigenerational Family on the Beach While on Vacation

All the Hawaiian Islands are perfect for family vacations. However, it is important you decide which Hawaiian Island is perfect for your multigenerational vacation in 2025. I usually recommend Maui and Oahu. But we can discuss which islands will best fit your family’s needs.

Pearl Harbor Memorial is usually one of the favorite attractions for a Hawaiian family vacation. This tour will share many invaluable insights into that historical time.

Interactive experiences showcasing Hawaiian traditions can be seen at the Polynesian Cultural Center. And there is no better way to explore the Molokini Crater than going on a snorkeling adventure.

Surfing is a popular activity in Waikiki, and the rest of Hawaii. Adventurous members of your family will want to take lessons, while the others sit back and watch.

Rome, Italy

Imagine visiting a destination where you can experience the past each day, while enjoying delicious cuisine in between each stop. It is completely possible when you choose to take your multigenerational vacation in Rome, Italy. Plus, this best family friendly vacation destination promises enhanced guided tours and family friendly museums for 2025.

I recommend having me secure your spot for a Colosseum tour while I am planning your multigenerational vacation. This will ensure you can skip the line when you arrive. And you will get to enjoy an interactive tour filled with gladiator stories that will thrill each family member.

I can do the same for Vatican City, so you don’t spend most of your time waiting in line. This will give you more time to admire the Sistine Chapel and St. Peter’s Basilica.

A bike ride through the Villa Borghese Gardens will allow you to see a beautiful spot in the city. I recommend bringing a picnic lunch with you to extend your time in these gardens.

There are plenty of cooking classes you can take while on a family vacation in Rome. If your kids are old enough, you can all take one together to learn how to make fresh pasta.

London, England

Harry Potter fans will love going on vacation to London, England. So, if your kids are hesitant to spend time with you and their grandparents, tell them you are going on a Harry Potter adventure. Their moods will change dramatically. Especially when you have me schedule a Harry Potter Studio Tour for your family.

I can also arrange tours of London, so you can all see Big Ben, London Eye, Buckingham Palace, and Kensington Gardens. Over at the Tower of London, take the interactive tours to ensure history is brought to life for your family.

A day of rest can be experienced in Hyde Park. You can all enjoy a family picnic or go paddle boating.

Orlando, Florida – Popular Best Destination for Multigenerational Travel in 2025

You must have known that Orlando would be on this list of best destinations for multigenerational travel in 2025. After all, it is home to Disney World and Universal Studios.

There are new attractions and activities coming to both these theme parks in 2025. Grandparents will feel nostalgic, as they take the grandkids on the rides they took you on when you were little. Teens will love the thrilling ride options. And you will all stand and wave, as characters walk by during the parades.

Over at Discovery Cove, you can swim with dolphins and snorkel in tropical lagoons. Creating memories will be easy when you take the time to visit with the marine life at Discovery Cove.

There are plenty of nearby attractions to consider when you take a family vacation in Orlando. Kennedy Space Center is one of those attractions. This is an excellent option for anyone who dreams of flying to the moon one day.

Check out these amazing things to do in Orlando during your next multigenerational vacation.

When it comes to planning a memorable vacation that caters to all ages, the best destinations for multigenerational travel in 2025 offer something for everyone. These destinations create opportunities for families to bond, learn, and relax together. Whether your family prefers cultural experiences, outdoor adventures, or simply soaking up the sun on the beach, these family friendly vacation spots ensure every generation has an unforgettable experience. I recommend considering these remarkable destinations to create lasting memories that will be cherished for years to come.

Are you dreaming of a family beach vacation? Have you always wanted to visit the Big Island of Hawaii? Well, the Island of Hawaii doesn’t have as many beaches as some of the other Hawaiian Islands. However, the beaches on the Island of Hawaii are some of the best beaches in the entire world. So, if you are ready to sink your toes into some soft sand and take long walks with your family, you must visit at least one of these beaches! Of course, when you are planning your family vacation in Hawaii, you may have no idea which beach should be at the top of your list. Thankfully, I know a few of the best beaches in Hawaii.

Experience the Best Beaches in Hawaii During Your Family Vacation

Makalawena Beach – Best Lava Beaches in Hawaii

This gorgeous beach in Hawaii will make you work for the soft sand, sparkling water, and gorgeous views. But the twenty-minute walk over cooled lava is worth every second! The path to the beach is marked and has been worn down after all these years.

Palm trees create a shaded area at Makalawena Beach. There are also lumps of lava scattered on top of the sand. This is one of the best beaches in Hawaii that many people do not visit. So, it is possible that your family will be the only people enjoying the sand, views, and the occasional wild chicken.

Papakolea Beach

Experience the Best Beaches in Hawaii During Your Family Vacation - Papakolea Beach on the Big Island of Hawaii

Papakolea Beach is also known as Green Sand Beach or Pu’u o Mahana Beach. Olivine is the precious stone that creates the green sand. As the water from the ocean erodes the cinder cone, the olivine from the cinder joins the sand to create the green color.

This is not an easy beach to reach. But again, it is worthwhile just for the opportunity to see the green sand. Especially if you are searching for tranquility during your family beach vacation.

Waialea Beach

This beach is located on Waialea Bay. It is not too far from Hapuna Beach. This is one of the most popular beaches on the Island of Hawaii. However, it is not a beach that is simple to access. Therefore, you must plan your visit carefully.

It is best to visit this Hawaiian beach during the summer months. The reason for this is the winter brings in strong surf, which causes the beach to erode. The tide pools are perfect for young children. Plus, everyone will enjoy the gentle waves of the ocean during the summer.

Hapuna Beach – One of the Best Beaches in Hawaii

Experience the Best Beaches in Hawaii During Your Family Vacation - Hapuna Beach on the Big Island of Hawaii

One of the best beaches in Hawaii for swimming and snorkeling is Hapuna Beach. Your family will love the long stretch of sand.

This is the perfect beach for lounging while reading a book while the kids build sandcastles. The crystal-clear water is exactly what you will be looking for when you want to swim with the marine life. And snorkelers will want to swim the mile down to Waialea Bay to get the most marine life action.

See the other family friendly beaches in Hawaii for your next family vacation.

Punalu’u Black Sand Beach

Punalu’u Black Sand Beach is another fabulous colored sand beach in Hawaii. As the name implies, the sand on this Hawaiian beach is black.

I recommend wearing shoes when walking along this beach, because the sand gets really hot under the sun. This isn’t the best beach in Hawaii for swimming or snorkeling. But it is the perfect place to watch the Hawaiian green sea turtles as they are sunbathing.

Richardson Beach Park – One of the Best Family Friendly Beaches in Hawaii

Families with young children, as well as those who want to swim at the beach, will love Richardson Beach Park. Lava has naturally created the sea walls at this beach. Those walls keep the water in the pools and coves calm throughout the year.

When your family is not swimming or snorkeling, you may find yourselves out in a kayak.

Check out these other volcanic beaches in Hawaii during your family vacation!

Honaunau Bay

The beach at Honaunau Bay is right next to Pu’uhonua o Honaunau Park. This beach is quite crowded. So, it is best to arrive early. This is especially true if you want to claim a spot on the sand.

Most people spend all their time in the water at this beach, because it is the best spot for snorkeling. Therefore, if you don’t find that large of a sandy spot when you arrive, don’t worry. Simply throw your towels down and start in on the water fun!

Now that you know all the best beaches in Hawaii, you can easily determine which one will be best for your family vacation. You may even decide that a couple of these beaches in Hawaii must make your list of things to do. The good news is that since I am customizing your family vacation for you, it is easy to add everything you want to your itinerary!

The Big Island of Hawaii is the largest of all the Hawaiian Islands. This is why so many people choose the island for their Hawaiian family vacation. If you happen to know this Hawaiian Island is perfect for your family, or you are simply starting with this island, you must know a few things before planning your family adventures! I happen to love the Big Island of Hawaii. Therefore, I wanted to share some tips that will make your time there better than you could ever imagine!

Big Island of Hawaii Travel Guide for Your Family Vacation

History on the Big Island of Hawaii

Big Island of Hawaii Travel Guide for Your Family Vacation - Hawaiian Culture

A Polynesian navigator, Hawai’iloa, discovered the Big Island of Hawaii. At least according to one of the many legends. Another legend shares this island used to be the realm of Hawaiki and was where people went in their afterlife.

However, this island was actually discovered by explorers from the Marquesas Islands. Those Polynesian explorers brought their cultures and traditions over to this island, and you can still experience them today.

The oldest section of the Big Island is the North Kohala Peninsula. If you want to see the most history during your vacation, I recommend spending a little time here.

Weather on the Big Island of Hawaii

You may be shocked to discover that there are really only two seasons on the Big Island of Hawaii! Then again, you might not be, because you know the weather in Hawaii is always amazing!

Summer in Hawaii

The months of May through October is summer on the Big Island of Hawaii. These months are quite dry. The temperatures average around 85 to 90 degrees during the day.

Winter in Hawaii

The temperatures do not drop much during the winter months in Hawaii. The months of November through April have temperatures between 79 and 83 degrees. The only major difference you will see weather-wise during these months is there will be much more rain. Some areas of the island get more rain than others, and the sun is almost always shining somewhere. Therefore, if you simply switch your plans a little for the day, you can avoid the rain altogether!

Best Time to Vacation on the Big Island of Hawaii

There really isn’t a “best” time to vacation in Hawaii. However, if you want to avoid the rain, I recommend visiting during the summer months. The middle of June through the end of August is the peak season. As is the middle of December through the middle of March. If you want to avoid an influx of people and higher prices, you may want to avoid those times.

Since this is your family vacation, you may want to choose to visit when there is the most daylight, so you can accomplish everything on your must-do list. The days in June have two and a half more hours of daylight than the days in December. I recommend keeping this in mind if you know your family will be active from sunup to sun-down.

What to Pack for a Family Vacation in Hawaii

Clothing items for warm weather is a must when packing for a family vacation in Hawaii. However, I recommend being prepared for the rain. Pack a raincoat or an umbrella. And if you know you will be going up to the mountainous regions, a warm jacket and even gloves and a hat will be helpful. After all, there can be snow up in the mountains, and it gets cold as you reach those higher elevations.

Places to Stay While on a Hawaiian Vacation with Family

You may not have as many unique accommodation options when you take a family vacation on the Big Island of Hawaii. However, you can still choose from an Airbnb, hotel, resort, and a select few bed and breakfasts. While every family has their own personal needs for vacations, I have discovered the resorts in Hawaii usually offer the best value and amenities. We can discuss your family’s personal vacation accommodation requirements, so we can determine the best accommodations for your Hawaiian vacation.

Foods You Must Try While on Vacation in Hawaii

Big Island of Hawaii Travel Guide for Your Family Vacation - Hawaiian Traditional Plate Lunch with Ahi Poke

Soft, sandy beaches, warm ocean water, and thrilling adventures are always the main reasons why people vacation in Hawaii. However, it may be the local foods that make you want to return to this gorgeous island in the future!

Main Foods

  • Poke – Diced raw ahi tuna is used to make this popular Hawaiian dish. It is served with rice and multiple sauces. There are many different variations though, so you can often find it made with other types of raw fish.
  • Acai Bowls – The warmer days of the year are perfect for acai bowls. But honestly, you can eat these fruity bowls whenever you would like! These smoothie bowls are made with acai berries, granola, other types of fruit, and numerous toppings. You can basically build the acai bowl of your dreams!
  • Loco Moco – Loco moco is a bowl of rice topped with a burger and gravy.
  • Kona Coffee – Okay, so Kona coffee is not a food, but it is a must-try drink when you are vacationing in Hawaii. The coffee beans for Kona coffee are grown in the Kona region of the Big Island. For the best experience, make sure you are getting 100% Kona coffee. The blends are only required to have 10% Kona coffee in them. Kona coffee is expensive, but it is worth the money from the very first sip!
  • Furikake Chicken – Fried chicken is always delicious. Especially on the Big Island of Hawaii. I recommend trying the fried chicken that is coated with furikake seasoning. This seasoning is made with dried seaweed, bonito flakes, and sesame seeds.
  • Spam Musubi – One of the most popular snacks in Hawaii is Spam Musubi. In fact, the locals in Hawaii eat the most Spam in the world! A slice of Spam is placed on top of a block of rice before being wrapped with Nori.

Desserts

  • Shave Ice – If nothing else on this list of must-try foods in Hawaii sounds appealing, the shave ice will be something your family will love to eat! Fluffy, shaved ice is placed in a bowl. You get to cover it with a fruity syrup of your choice. This is the perfect treat on a nice hot day in Hawaii!
  • Malasadas – The must-try donut in Hawaii is the Malasadas. This fried treat does not look like a traditional donut with a hole in the middle. It has a doughy center. Or it is filled with delightful ingredients like coconut. Malasadas are served warm and coated with granulated sugar.

Activities to Embrace While on Vacation in Hawaii

As a family, you will all enjoy doing a little manta ray diving over near Kona. And as the day turns into night, you can all venture over to Mauna Kea for some of the best stargazing views in the world. However, those aren’t the only popular activities on the Big Island. I also recommend considering adding the following activities to your Hawaii family vacation itinerary:

  • ATV Riding
  • Wandering Through the Rainforests
  • Hiking
  • Golfing
  • Horseback Riding
  • Soaking in a Hot Spring
  • Surfing
  • Whale Watching
  • Ziplining over the Jungles, Rainforests, and Ravines

Top Places to See While on Vacation on the Big Island of Hawaii

Hawaii may be an island, but that doesn’t mean you will find yourself lacking in things to do during your vacation. Instead, you will find yourself in agony. Mainly because you won’t be able to fit everything on your must-do list in your itinerary! While you will have your own preferences, I guarantee you won’t want to leave these three top places off your list.

Hawaii Volcanoes National Park

There are two active volcanoes within Hawaii Volcanoes National Park. However, Kilauea is a must-see volcano. It stands at four thousand feet tall, and while it hasn’t been erupting in recent months, it is a volcano that bears watching. If you are lucky, you may capture a glimpse of lava flow during your visit. And if you don’t get to see lava, at least you can see the volcano up close as you hike the nearby trails. Plus, you can venture to the summit of Mauna Kea for the views or do a little stargazing.

Akaka Falls State Park

Big Island of Hawaii Travel Guide for Your Family Vacation - Akaka Falls State Park

If your family loves waterfalls and you want to check two off your list quickly, I recommend heading over to Akaka Falls State Park. The trail leading to the waterfalls is flat and paved, making it easy to navigate by even the smallest children. Plus, the trail is not long, and you can easily walk it in 30 minutes or less. While the views from the trail are amazing, the highlight will be when you arrive at Kahuna Falls and then Akaka Falls.

Hilo Farmers Market

When you are hungry, thirsty, and in the mood for a little shopping, you must venture over to the Hilo Farmers Market. This farmer’s market is open daily. It is the best place to grab a bite to eat while shopping at the same time. If you are looking for the most variety, I recommend visiting on a Wednesday or Saturday. This is when most vendors are there. This is when you will find some of the most unique items like jaboticaba fruit and bongo drums. It is also best to use caution when making purchases. Like everywhere else, you will have some fake items offered as local souvenirs.

Tips for Getting the Most Out of Your Family Vacation on the Big Island of Hawaii

There are always going to be tips you must know before traveling to any destination around the world. My top tips for getting the most out of your family vacation on the Big Island of Hawaii include:

  • Choose Your Accommodations Wisely – Together, we will find the perfect accommodations for your family.
  • Rental Cars are a Must – You may not choose to rent on a car on most family vacations you take, but you must when you are visiting the Big Island of Hawaii. If you don’t, you will find yourself without any options for getting to the destinations you want to see the most.
  • Plan a Luau Towards the End of Your Trip – The time change can be really daunting for some families. Since the luaus end really late, you may not be ready to stay up that long towards the beginning of your trip.
  • Purchase Reef Safe Sunscreen – Skip packing the sunscreen in your suitcase and purchase the reef-safe version when you arrive. The coral reefs and marine life will thank you!
  • Always Check the Weather Before Heading Out for the Day – When you check the weather in the morning, you can avoid mishaps like hiking in the rain and so much more. Most Hawaiian itineraries can have their days or times swapped if you do happen to encounter a rainstorm during your visit.

This travel guide should have you understand everything you need to know to have a fabulous family vacation on the Big Island of Hawaii! And if you have any questions, I can share the answers with you, as I am booking your Hawaiian vacation for you!

The Big Island of Hawaii might be the largest of all the Hawaiian Islands. But did you also know it is the youngest? Those two things alone should make you want to visit this gorgeous island! Of course, most people already know they want to visit Hawaii at some point in their life. Yet, everyone has no idea which Hawaiian Island is best for their family vacations. Sometimes, it comes down to the activities, attractions, and adventures that a specific Hawaiian Island has for a person to say this is the Hawaiian Island that is perfect for their next family vacation!

There are so many things to see and do when you visit the Big Island of Hawaii. I couldn’t possibly share them all with you in a single post. So, I am sharing only the best things to do on this fabulous island. I know many of these things will make it onto your Hawaiian itinerary. However, as I am planning your next Hawaiian vacation, you can guarantee I will find a few other gems you will want to add to your list of things to do in Hawaii.

Best Things to Do in Hawaii During Your Next Family Vacation

Visit Hawaii Volcanoes National Park – The Most Popular Thing to Do in Hawaii

Best Things to Do in Hawaii for Your Next Family Vacation - Visit Hawaii Volcanoes National Park

One of the biggest attractions on the island of Hawaii is Hawaii Volcanoes National Park. There are two active volcanoes within this national park. But Kilauea is the one that has been oozing lava since 1983.

The other popular volcano within this national park is Mauna Kea. It is best to visit the summit of Mauna Kea at the end of the day, because it is perfect for stargazing.

A stop at the Visitor Center is a must, so you can get used to the higher elevation. By the time you reach the summit, you will be fourteen thousand feet above sea level. The height of this volcano makes it an incredible location to view the stars without any other distractions.

There are numerous trails to hike along inside Hawaii Volcanoes National Park during your visit. Some may lead you to lava flows, while many others will not.

Check out these amazing family activities while visiting Hawaii Volcanoes National Park!

Walk Along Punaluu Black Sand Beach

There are thousands of beaches around the world and dozens on the Big Island of Hawaii. However, not too many of them have the black basalt sand that is found on the shoreline of Punaluu Black Sand Beach in Hawaii.

This unique sand was created from volcanic lava that flowed into the ocean. As you are walking along this coarse black sand, you will have the opportunity to see green sea turtles sunning themselves along the beach.

You can swim and snorkel at this beach. But the currents can be strong. So, be quite cautious if you choose to enter the water.

Oh, and if you want to check out a green sand beach, head over to Papakōlea Green Sand Beach. The small particles of green sand were created by the cinder cone located next to the beach.

Consider visiting these other amazing family friendly beaches in Hawaii during your vacation.

Explore Mountain Thunder

One of the best places to learn about, and drink, authentic Hawaiian Kona coffee is Mountain Thunder. This coffee plantation is located approximately 3,200 feet above sea level.

During your visit, you will see magnificent views of much of the Kona coastline below. It is best to take a tour of the plantation before taking your very first sip of freshly roasted Kona coffee. It’s a Hawaiian specialty you won’t want to miss!

Use my travel guide to help you get ideas for planning a family vacation on the Big Island of Hawaii!

Hike the Trail at Akaka Falls State Park – The Best Outdoor Thing to Do in Hawaii

Best Things to Do in Hawaii During Your Next Family Vacation - Akaka Falls

Hiking to the waterfalls on any of the Hawaiian Islands normally means long, arduous hikes. However, on the Big Island of Hawaii, you can take a short hike to two waterfalls within Akaka Falls State Park.

Kahuna Falls has water cascading down the cliffs, while the water at Akaka Falls basically does a free-fall. You can tackle this hike in about a half hour. But only if you don’t spend too much time gazing at the waterfalls.

I usually recommend allowing for at least an hour to truly enjoy this piece of paradise.

Explore Pu’uhonua o Honaunau National Historical Park

History is everywhere within this national park in Hawaii. As you wander around, you will find yourself discovering temples, wood carvings, and even Hawaiian green sea turtles that live inside the park.

This is an excellent way to learn about the past of this island. But midday visits can be rather hot and sunny. So, it is best to be prepared with a hat, sunscreen, and lots of water.

Swim with the Wild Dolphins

One of the more unique activities when vacationing in Hawaii is swimming with the wild dolphins. Up along the Kona Coast, there are plenty of options for swimming with the spinner dolphins that are native to Hawaii.

How to get closer to wildlife in Hawaii during your family vacation.

Shop at the Hilo Farmers Market

Best Things to Do in Hawaii During Your Next Family Vacation - Hilo Farmers Market

One of the best places to find locally sourced foods on the Big Island of Hawaii is over at the Hilo Farmers Market. It is best to visit this farmer’s market on either Wednesday or Saturday. That is when the most vendors are there.

While you can find some amazing poke, shave ice, pineapples, and bananas at this market, it will be the bongo drums and jaboticaba fruit that will pique your interest the most. This is not the best place to grab quality souvenirs though. So, we will need to make sure we schedule souvenir shopping for another time.

Embrace Water and History at Kealakekua Bay

Snorkeling is one of the favorite activities at Kealakekua Bay. You can see an array of sea turtles, spinner dolphins, and tropical fish.

However, there is an abundance of history within this area as well. The Captain Cook Monument located across the bay is an excellent place to begin your historical journey. From there, you can wander around the park for a unique history lesson in a gorgeous natural setting.

Explore Waipio Valley

Waipio Valley is a wonderful spot to relax and immerse yourself in nature. This valley is one mile wide and five miles deep, creating a beautiful setting amongst the massive cliffs that surround it.

Over on the southern side of the valley, there is an overlook point you must visit. From there, you can see panoramic views of the entire area.

One of the best ways to experience Waipio Valley is via horseback riding. However, you can also choose to do a strenuous hike or take a tour in a van instead.

These are the best things to do in Hawaii during your next family vacation. As I mentioned above, there are so many other things that will pique your interest when you are vacationing on the Big Island of Hawaii. I would love to customize a Hawaiian vacation for you and your family, so you can see and do exactly what you want to when you are visiting this fabulous Hawaiian Island.

So, are you ready to start planning your vacation on the Big Island of Hawaii?

If you are, then I would like to invite you to schedule a planning session with me here. When you click this link, you will be taken directly to my digital calendar. You will easily be able to schedule a time that is most convenient for you.

When you think of Hawaii, you think of surfing, whale watching, waterfalls, volcanoes, and naturally beaches. Did you know that over 100 beautiful beaches encompass the Hawaiian Islands? Each one of the beaches in Hawaii offers soft sand, sparkling water, and plenty of sunshine. Therefore, you can easily visit any beach in Hawaii and make memories with your family. Today, I’m sharing 5 of the amazing beaches in Hawaii that will be perfect for your next family-friendly vacation. So, start imagining all the family friendly activities you can do during a Hawaiian vacation.

5 Amazing Beaches in Hawaii for a Family Friendly Vacation

Tunnels Beach (Kaua’i)

5 Amazing Beaches in Hawaii for a Family Friendly Vacation - Tunnels Beach

Tunnels Beach is surrounded by vivacious palms and flowering ironwood trees. It is one of the best beaches in Hawaii for the snorkeling and scuba diving enthusiasts in your family.

This beach earned its moniker from the lava tubes that form underwater caverns. Those caverns make the beach such a magical place for underwater exploration. So, I recommend taking the time to explore those underwater wonders. And also taking your camera with you to capture a few moments of underwater fun with your family.

If you are looking to stay above water, Tunnels Beach offers plenty of options. It is a favorite among those who surf, kite surf and wind surf.

While it is fantastic during the day, the sunsets from this North Shore beach are spectacular. So, I recommend catching one during your Hawaiian family vacation.

Planning a family vacation in the Northeast? Check out these beaches near Boston

Kapalua Bay (Maui)

Soft white sand beaches and calm waters create the perfect backdrop for Kapalua Bay. It is one of the best beaches in Hawaii for beginning snorkelers to get some practice. And families with little ones get to enjoy their time in the water without having to worry about rough surf.

This bay is protected by two reefs that extend out forming a “C” shaped cove. These reefs ensure the coral, and the tropical wildlife is truly spectacular. Although, you won’t see all the marine life if you don’t venture out to the reefs.

This beach is as popular as it is easy to get to. However, it’s large enough you will have room to spread out your towels for a nice relaxing day.

Holopo’e Beach (Lana’i)

Holopo’e Beach is on a protected bay has a pristine exquisiteness about it. The beach in Hawaii comes equipped with grills, picnic tables, and showers.

What makes this area so unique is its sizable tide pools. Those tide pools were created from volcanic rock. All those rocks assist with keeping the waters calm. This allows your swimming and exploration to be that much more enjoyable.

You can take a hike along the cliffs. And if you’re lucky, you may also get the chance to witness the lovely spinner dolphins.

Looking for an even memorable family vacation? Check out these beaches in Australia

Hapuna Beach (The Big Island)

5 Amazing Beaches in Hawaii for a Family Friendly Vacation - Beach in Hawaii

Hapuna Beach is located in Hapuna Beach State Park. This beach is regularly voted one of the “Best Beaches in the World”. This is due to its beauty, size and the fact that it is always sunny.

Fun Fact: This is one of the beaches in Hawaii that gets only 10 inches of rain a year!

Hapuna Beach is also very popular amongst families. So, if you arrive and it’s too crowded, I recommend heading down to Wailea Beach. It is just south of Hapuna.

If you are looking for something else to do with the family while at the park, you have options. Hike along the Ala Kahakai coastal trail to catch some remarkable views and anchialine ponds.

What is an anchialine pond you ask? It is a landlocked body of water with a below ground connection to the ocean.

Is a Caribbean family vacation in your future? Visit these beaches in Antigua and Barbuda!

Punlau’u Beach (The Big Island) – One of the Favorite Beaches in Hawaii

This picturesque beach in Hawaii is not only famous for its black sand but also for its endangered sea turtles. It is one of the few beaches that sea turtles choose to lay their eggs.

You will also often find Hawaiian green sea turtles basking in the sun here. However, the real lucky people may also encounter the rare Hawksbill Turtle while in the water.

Make sure you bring your water shoes. You will need to climb on lava rocks to get into the water here.

Check out these other volcanic beaches

Now that you know some of the hot spots in Hawaii, prepare to discover optimal beach life in the richly beautiful Pacific archipelago. I guarantee there is nothing better than spending time with your family, as you get a little rest and relaxation on a beach in Hawaii.

The Hawaiian Islands are often thought of as the perfect destination for honeymoons. But these days, the islands are a great option for families. Plus, they have so much to offer for everyone, from young kids to grandparents. From shopping and attractions on Oahu to the natural, untouched beauty of the Big Island, there are many reasons why Hawaii has become the perfect destination for family vacations. No matter what the ages of your children, you and your family can plan a fabulous vacation to this tropical getaway. So, here are some tips to help you decide which Hawaiian Island is perfect for your families next vacation destination.

Which Hawaiian Island is Perfect for Your Family Vacation?

Oahu – Best Hawaiian Island for families who want the “classic” Hawaii experience

Oahu is perfect for a family who is looking for a vacation that will keep them busy both day and night. On this Hawaiian Island, you can take part in all the activities that “say” Hawaii when you think about them.

During the day there is more to do than lie on the beach. Therefore, I recommend scuba diving, snorkeling, or some of the best surfing in the world. And even if you aren’t a history buff, a visit to Pearl Harbor is a must do.

At night, enjoy a Luau that will get the whole family involved. Or dance the night away at many of the hotspots in either Honolulu or Waikiki.

While Honolulu is the biggest city and the most active, Kaneohe and the North Shore are also popular for family vacations. You will find numerous family friendly vacation rentals there. So, don’t think you need to stick to the larger cities for your next family friendly vacation.

Can’t decide between Oahu and Maui? Let’s chat!

Maui – Best for families who want to get off the beaten path

Maui is great if your family wants touristy fun. Yet, this Hawiian Island has many off the beaten path family friendly getaways.

Many people say that Maui has some of the best beaches in the world. So, if your family is looking for beautiful azure-blue waters and spectacular sunsets, this is the island for you.

If you grow tired of the beach, hop in your car and drive along the coast. The southern and western shores are the most popular for whale watching. And if you are looking for a bit of Hawaiian history and culture, you won’t want to miss exploring Lahaina Town. This is a small town filled with historic sites, cultural activities, shops, cafes, and restaurants.

There are quite a few family-friendly resorts and hotels in Maui. I can help you find the one that fits your family’s needs the best.

Kauai – Best Hawaiian Island for families who know there is more to the great outdoors than the beach

Kauai is the oldest and most historic island of the Hawaiian chain. It is nicknamed the “Garden Isle” for good reason. Much of the island is covered by lush tropical rainforest. The many cliffs, canyons and trails are ideal for the family who prefers hiking boots to flip-flops.

Ready to explore by car? Your entire family will enjoy a drive along Kalalau Trail. This is a coastal trail that leads into Wailua Falls. These falls are one of the most breathtaking waterfalls in the Hawaiian Islands.

And if you still want to relax on the beach, Kauai has that too. Poipu Beach is often voted one the best beaches in America. In fact, you will love that this is one of the best family vacation spots in the USA.

Which Hawaiian Island is Perfect for Your Family Vacation? - Waterfall in Hawaii

Molokai – Best for families who want to see what it’s like to live like a local

Molokai doesn’t get nearly as many tourists as the bigger Hawaiian Islands. This is why some people call it their favorite. But there are so many reasons why you should visit Molokai.

Almost half the population of Molokai is Native Hawaiian. So, it has an unspoiled feel to it.

It is easy to get a sense of how the indigenous people have worked to preserve their connection to their Hawaiian roots. Simply visit the Kapuaiwa Coconut Grove, Kumu Farms, and the Molokai Plumeria. You can make your own lei at the Plumeria.

Be sure to visit Kaunakakai to give you a glimpse into what real Hawaiian life is like on a day-to-day basis. While here, enjoy authentic Hawaiian fare, browse boutique shops, and walk along the Kaunakakai Harbor.

This is one of the best vacation spots for kids, because there aren’t a ton of crowds. So, you can easily relax and never worry about your child scooting too far out of sight.

Which Hawaiian Island is Perfect for Your Family Vacation? - Hawaiian food vendor

Lanai – Best Hawaiian Island for families who don’t want their vacations to feel too crowded

Lanai is the Hawaiian Island to head to for the family that’s in the mood for a vacation away from civilization. This is a small island that packs in plenty of things to do and see. But less tourist traffic allows for all activities to feel more intimate.

On this island, you will want to rent a 4-wheel drive vehicle and head up the Munro Trail. This will allow you to take in the natural beauty of the island and its beaches.

Lanai is the tale of two lands as the shopping, dining, and golfing in Lanai City is quite a juxtaposition to the bare landscape of Keahiakawelo on the outskirts of town. Honestly, it is the best of both worlds when traveling with family.

sisters looking out at mountains

Big Island – Best for families who want to experience a range of landscapes and climates in one place

The Big Island, or the island of Hawaii, is perfect for families who want to get a taste of the full range of what these islands have to offer. From the white sand beaches to the frosted tips of the mountains, your family can explore 11 different climactic zones all within a short drive of each other.

Have you ever seen a black sand beach? If not, be sure to visit Punaluu Beach, one of the most famous black sand beaches on Hawaii.

This island features delicious coffee plantations where mom, dad, grandma, and grandpa can fuel up with a cup of locally grown brew. Afterwards, the family can go down the Hamakua Coast to see the island’s spectacular waterfalls. Or check out one the world’s most active volcanoes in Hawaii Volcanoes National Park. While the park is still recovering from recent volcanic activity, many areas are open for visitors.

Amazing island vacations to consider for your next family getaway!

Which Hawaiian Island is Perfect for Your Family Vacation? - Sea turtle on black sand beach

A family vacation in Hawaii is like visiting no other place. It’s no wonder why many families visit time and time again. Each Hawaiian Island has plenty of different activities to offer visitors. But the one thing you’ll find on each island is the beautiful Aloha spirit of the locals. Their happy and optimistic attitude makes it one of the most memorable places in the world to spend a family vacation.

So, are you ready to choose a Hawaiian Island that is perfect for your family vacation?

Are you planning an amazing family vacation in Maui? Or do you want to see this fabulous Hawaiian Island with your kids and possibly your grandkids? If you answered yes to either of those questions, there is one activity that must be on your itinerary. That activity is exploring the Road to Hana with your family. This winding road has been wowing visitors for years. It is one of the best ways to see many of the best sights in Maui in a single day. Today, I am sharing my helpful guide to the Road to Hana. My guide is designed to ensure you have a wonderful experience while exploring this area of Maui with your family.

Explore the Road to Hana with Your Family Using My Helpful Guide

History of the Road to Hana

The Road to Hana was paved back in 1962. Until that time, visitors had to drive along unpaved roads to experience the undeveloped beauty this side of the island is known for.

The Hana Highway, or Road to Hana as it is mainly called, is fifty-two miles long. There are six hundred and twenty curves. So, when you hear someone say the Road to Hana is winding and curvy, they are not lying.

There are also fifty-nine bridges that must be crossed during this drive.

How to Travel on the Road to Hana

You will have a few options for traveling on the Road to Hana. Some people want to tackle the drive themselves. If you decide to do this, make sure the policy of the rental car you are using allows you to drive it on this road. Some rental car companies will not allow anyone to drive their vehicles on the unpaved portion of this highway. This section is past Hana Town and is usually considered the back way to Hana.

If you are unsure, simply ask the rental car company prior to getting in the car.

Oh, and as I learned from my son, you should never ride a motorcycle on the Road to Hana. It is much more difficult than it seems. My son is a good driver and used to motorcycles, and still struggled to keep the bike on the road during this drive.

If you don’t feel like tackling this drive on your own (and I don’t blame you there with all the hairpin turns), you can leave the driving to a professional. There are plenty of tour buses that travel the Road to Hana every day. The only time you will not see them on this road is when there is inclement weather.

Your guide will share lots of information about what you are seeing out the windows and at the areas where you stop.

I usually recommend that all my clients do the tour bus option. It allows for a calmer experience, while also allowing you to see the views instead of solely paying attention to the road.

I can easily arrange for a tour of the Road to Hana as I am personalizing your itinerary for your family vacation in Maui.

How Long to Spend on the Road to Hana

You should expect this trip to take between ten and twelve hours. And that is if you don’t stop at every single destination along the way. If you want to explore this area completely, you may want to spend a night in Hana and then make the drive back the following day.

Most guided tours are between ten and twelve hours.

What to Bring on the Road to Hana

There are a few items you should have with you when you are exploring the Road to Hana with your family. Those items include:

  • Hiking shoes
  • Bathing suit
  • Towel
  • Sunscreen
  • Sunglasses
  • Hat
  • Change of clothes
  • Light jacket
  • Water
  • Snacks
  • First aid kit
  • Cash for farm stand purchases

Best Stops on the Road to Hana

Twin Falls – Mile Marker 2

You won’t need to travel too far on the Road to Hana to reach the first best stop. At mile marker 2, you should get out and walk for five minutes to see Twin Falls. These are some of the most famous waterfalls in Maui.

There is also a farm stand at this mile marker. It is an excellent place to grab some fresh produce to eat during your journey.

Huelo Point Lookout – Mile Marker 4 and 5

Between mile markers 4 and 5, you will see the Huelo Point Lookout. The views of the ocean from this lookout are spectacular.

Rainbow Eucalyptus Trees – Mile Marker 6.7

Explore the Amazing Road to Hana with Your Family Using My Helpful Guide - Rainbow Eucalyptus Trees

Grab your camera at this stop, so you can capture the beauty of the Rainbow Eucalyptus trees. These trees have bark that is multi-colored. I guarantee you haven’t seen tree bark like this before!

Waikamoi Ridge Trail and Falls – Mile Marker 9.5 and 10

It is best to wear sneakers or hiking boots when you decide to explore the Road to Hana with your family. When you reach this mile marker, it will be time to get out of the vehicle for a little hike. This looped trail is less than a mile long.

Unfortunately, you will need to get back in the vehicle and drive a half mile longer to see Waikamoi Falls.

Garden of Eden – Mile Marker 10

Mile Marker 10 holds more than just the beauty of Waikamoi Falls. It is also where the Garden of Eden is located. This garden has twenty-six acres of rare Hawaiian plants and flowers.

It will be easy to lose track of time as you are walking along the trails in this garden. You will be tempted to stay longer than planned. However, that may mean skipping another stop on the highway later.

Keanae Peninsula and Arboretum – Mile Marker 16.5

Some people skip this stop on the Hana Highway. If you do stop, you can either take pictures at the Keanae Peninsula or see the flowers at the Arboretum.

Upper Waikani Falls – Mile Marker 19.5

The Upper Waikani Falls are also known as Three Bears Falls. All three waterfalls merge to create a grotto that peaks at seventy feet high. All the water from these waterfalls goes directly into the Wailua Nui Stream.

Parking can be a huge issue at this stop. Some people will skip these waterfalls if they can’t get into the lot. If you are on a tour bus, they may pull over slightly after the parking area. That will allow you to see the waterfalls after crossing over a bridge. It is best to use extreme caution when crossing the bridge. Other cars on the road may not be paying attention and may not see you.

Pua’a Ka’a Falls and State Park – Mile Marker 22.5

Explore the Amazing Road to Hana with Your Family Using My Helpful Guide - Pua'a Ka'a Falls on the Road to Hana at Mile Marker 22

There aren’t many restrooms on the Road to Hana. Pua’a Ka’a State Park has restrooms, so it is always packed. This is a great place to stop for a snack or picnic lunch. You can hike to the nearby Pua’a Ka’a waterfall if you have the time.

Hanawi Falls – Mile Marker 24

One of the best places to see Hanawi Falls is from the Hanawi Bridge. There are only a couple narrow pullouts off the road at these waterfalls. So, parking may be challenging. Don’t be surprised if you need to skip this stop during your journey.

Nahiku Marketplace – Mile Marker 29

You won’t want to miss a stop at the Nahiku Marketplace on the Hana Highway. This marketplace sells all types of food. You can find everything from seafood and tacos to coffee and other beverages. It’s a great place to grab lunch if you didn’t pack one.

Kahanu Garden and Pi’ilanihale Heiau – Mile Marker 31

The largest heiau, or religious structure, on the island is located here. This heiau dates all the way back to the 16th century. After you have seen the heiau, you should explore the botanical garden.

Kaeleku Cave – Mile Marker 31

The Kaeleku Cave is also called the Hana Lava Tube. I recommend heading into this lava tube to see the extraordinary beauty of the cavern. The best part is it will be much cooler inside. You may appreciate it during a really hot day!

Waianapanapa State Park – Mile Marker 32

See how you really don’t need to drive too far to see the next beautiful thing on the Hana Highway?! At mile marker 32, you can stop and explore Waianapanapa State Park. The whole family will love hiking the trails, taking a dip in the freshwater pools, and checking out the views. Don’t forget to leave time to visit Pailoa Bay though. This black sand beach is worthy of your time.

Hana Town – Mile Marker 34

Explore the Amazing Road to Hana with Your Family Using My Helpful Guide - Hana Bay in Hana Town on the Road to Hana

A little time in Hana Town can make you feel like a local. If you are on a tour bus, your tour guide will share what areas of town are best to visit.

Pipiwai Trail – Mile Marker 41.5

The Pipiwai Trail is located within Haleakala National Park. This trail is four miles long. I recommend planning to stay long enough to complete the hike, plus have a little extra time at Waimoku Falls at the end.

Ohe’o Gulch – Mile Marker 42

Not too far from the Pipiwai Trail is Ohe’o Gulch. This area is known for its Seven Sacred Pools. You must hike half a mile to reach these pools.

Wailua Falls – Mile Marker 44.8

Another stunning waterfall in Maui is Wailua Falls. Surprisingly, there is plenty of parking at this waterfall along the Road to Hana.

Hamoa Beach – Mile Marker 51

There are plenty of fabulous beaches in Maui. However, one of the best along this road is Hamoa Beach. This secluded beach is perfect for snorkeling when the water is calm. When the water is rough, you’ll see plenty of people out there on bodyboards.

These are the best stops along the Road to Hana. Between these and the other helpful information I shared; you should enjoy your experience exploring this road with your family. I would love to make sure your family sees this beautiful part of the island by adding it to the itinerary I personalize for your Maui vacation.

Wildlife is everywhere in the Hawaiian Islands. You can see marine life out in the ocean. Turtles usually can be seen sunning themselves on the beach. And there is plenty of wildlife in the Hawaiian forests. But how can you get closer to the wildlife in Hawaii without actually touching the animals? Or disturbing their natural habitats too much? Today, I am going to answer both those questions so you can get closer to wildlife in Hawaii. The result will be an even better family vacation than you expected.

Get Closer to Wildlife in Hawaii

Watch the Whales in the Ocean

Different types of whales arrive in the water surrounding Hawaii in October every year. The whales then stay in the warm water until April or May. If you want to see the whales, I recommend heading out on a whale watching tour. Your tour guide will make sure you understand what you can do to see the whales safely without disrupting their surroundings.

Or you can simply head to the shallow channel of water between Maui and Molokai. That area, as well as a section between Ma’alaea and Lahaina, are excellent places to see the whales.

Maybe you will want to do all of these, so you can spend even more time checking out the whales when vacationing in Hawaii.

Go Swimming with Dolphins

Get Closer to Wildlife in Hawaii - Dolphins

There are quite a few dolphins swimming around the Hawaiian Islands. Dolphins are usually considered the favorite of all the wildlife in Hawaii.

One of the best ways to get close to the dolphins is by heading out into the ocean to swim with them. There are many tour boats that will take you out on this type of family adventure. Plus, the tour guides often know where the dolphins love to spend their days. So, you won’t be spending hours trying to find them on your own.

As you are swimming, the dolphins are going to be playful. Don’t be surprised if they even approach you to check you out. They are curious creatures after all!

Dive with the Sharks

Yes, you will find plenty of sharks in Hawaii. If you are not scared of coming face to face with these creatures, you may want to do a tour. Most of the tours are done in Oahu.

During a tour, your family can enter a shark cage that is lowered into the water. The cage will keep everyone safe, as the sharks swim all around you.

You can even find tours that offer the chance to swim next to sharks without a cage. That may be an option depending on your comfort level.

Capture a Glimpse of Sea Turtles

Okay, so sea turtles are protected in Hawaii. That means you won’t be able to get too close to these creatures. However, you can still admire them from a few yards away.

There are a couple of tours that will take you out to swim near these sea turtles. Or you can simply wander along the shoreline to watch them swim to and from the sand.

The best places to watch the sea turtles include the southeast beaches in Maui, Turtle Beach in Oahu, and the northern and southern shorelines on the Big Island.

These are the best ways to get closer to wildlife in Hawaii. If you are interested in seeing any wildlife up close during a family vacation in Hawaii, let me know. I can easily add a couple of wildlife activities to the itinerary I personalize for your family trip.

So, are you ready to have me create a personalized family vacation itinerary for your trip to Hawaii or another destination?

Has visiting the Hawaiian Islands been on your travel bucket list? If it has, there is no better time than now to take a spectacular Hawaiian vacation with your family. Imagine spending twelve days exploring three of the six Hawaiian Islands. During this time, your family can go on adventures while making memories. Today, I am sharing a sample twelve-day Hawaiian vacation itinerary. It will show you what is possible during a family vacation in Hawaii. However, your itinerary doesn’t need to look exactly the same. I can personalize it to meet the needs of your family, so you can take the adventures you want while vacationing in paradise.

12 Day Spectacular Hawaiian Vacation

This spectacular family vacation on the Hawaiian Islands will take you to the islands of Oahu, Maui, and Kauai. Each island offers something magical and unique. Perfect for those memory making moments with your family.

Day One: Oahu

The first day of your amazing Hawaiian vacation will begin with you flying into Oahu’s airport. I recommend staying at a resort near Waikiki Beach. This will allow you to experience the ambiance of this popular Oahu beach. And you will be close to many of the activities you will be doing throughout the beginning part of your family vacation.

Today will be all about exploring your resort, spending time relaxing on one of the best beaches on Oahu, and maybe even walking around the Waikiki area.

You will want to go to bed early, so you can recover from jet lag and be ready for a full day of adventures in the morning.

Day Two: Oahu

Day two of your Hawaiian vacation will have your family taking a tour of this beautiful island. This private island tour will last for five hours.

Since this is a private tour, you can control how long you stay in each area you visit. You may also request specific destinations, so you stop at the sights you want to see the most.

After your tour, you can spend the rest of the day doing the activities your family enjoys.

12 Day Spectacular Hawaiian Vacation - Waikiki Beach and Diamond Head

Day Three: Oahu

You can explore Oahu on your own with your family today. Or head down to the beach to take surfing lessons or go swimming. There are so many family friendly things to do in Oahu

Moms may even want to escape for an hour or two and be pampered at the spa. Use your imagination to make this a day you will remember forever.

Day Four: Maui

You will be up early today, so you can make it to the airport in time for your flight to Maui. The flight is short, so it won’t be long before you touch down on another beautiful Hawaiian Island.

Drive to your resort, unpack, and then start the next part of your fabulous family vacation.

You may want to spend the evening down in Whaler’s Village. You can grab a bite to eat there and do a little shopping.

Day Five: Maui

Of course, you can save Whaler’s Village and many of the other sights in Maui for day five of your vacation. This day will be yours to drive around, explore, and have fun.

There are quite a few family friendly things to do in Maui. I can help you decide which activities are best for your family vacation.

Day Six: Maui

You can never spend too much time at Hawaiian beaches. There are a couple amazing beaches in Maui. I recommend checking a couple of them out if you don’t mind doing a little driving. Or simply choose the beach closest to your resort and stay until the sun sets.

Day Seven: Maui

It is finally time for your Road to Hana tour. Taking a guided tour of the Road to Hana is always best, because it allows you to focus on the sights instead of the winding road.

Your driver will stop at many of the popular Road to Hana sights. Your tour guide will point out many others along the way.

This will be a long day, so you will want to be prepared with drinks and snacks to keep you fueled and ready for adventures.

12 Day Spectacular Hawaiian Vacation - Road to Hana

Day Eight: Kauai

After a long day on the Road to Hana, you may be tempted to sleep in on day eight of your spectacular Hawaiian vacation. And you can for a little bit. However, you will need to get up sooner than you would like to catch your plane to Kauai.

This is another short flight, so don’t count on taking a nap while in the air. You can always take a nap once you get to your resort. Or head down to the beach for a nap on the sand.

Day Nine: Kauai

It is all about exploring the great outdoors when you are in Kauai. Today, your family will make memories in Kauai, as you paddle along the Wailua River to Secret Falls.

Don’t forget to bring your camera, so you can capture some family photos amongst all the beauty you see.

Day Ten: Kauai

You can’t spend time in Kauai and not check out the Na Pali Coast. So, that is what your family will be doing on day ten of your Hawaiian vacation!

Head out on a snorkeling tour to see marine life that is native to the waters of Na Pali Coast. Your group will leave the hotel for this tour very early in the morning. So, hopefully you managed to go to bed early the night before!

Day Eleven: Kauai

If snorkeling isn’t adventurous enough for some of your family members, today’s adventure should be much better. Today, you can fly high over the Kauai landscape, as you go ziplining.

You can all compete to see who can go the fastest on the side-by-side zipline. Then everyone can “argue” over who really went the fastest, while you cool off in the Bamboo Pool.

If your family doesn’t want to go ziplining, there are other amazing things to do in Kauai

Day Twelve: Kauai

On this day, you will wake up and realize that your family vacation in the Hawaiian Islands is now over. You will need to finish cramming everything into your suitcases and head to the airport to fly home.

Thankfully, all the memories you have made over the course of these twelve days will be with you forever. And you can talk about them with anyone who is wide awake during your flight. And if you are all too tired and fast asleep, you can have those discussions after you have returned to your regular routine.

This spectacular twelve-day itinerary of a Hawaiian vacation is just a glimpse of what is possible on these three Hawaiian Islands. Your family vacation in Hawaii can be just as magical, or even more magical. All you need to do is let me know what you want to experience during your Hawaiian vacation. I will then personalize an itinerary that will have all your family vacation dreams becoming reality. And that means you can easily check an item off your travel bucket list.

So, are you ready to have me personalize a family vacation itinerary in the Hawaiian Islands or another destination for your next trip?

If you said yes, I would like to invite you to click here to schedule a personalized family vacation planning session with me. When you click the link, you will be taken to my digital calendar to schedule a time that is convenient for you.
