Planning a memorable family vacation where everyone can enjoy themselves can be a challenge. But in 2025, the best destinations for multigenerational travel are making it easier than ever to create unforgettable experiences for the whole family. Today, I am sharing some family friendly vacation destinations with you. These destinations offer sun-soaked beaches, cultural experiences, and outdoor adventures. Basically, something for everyone in your family to enjoy, while creating lifelong memories. Let’s start exploring the top destinations that cater to multigenerational travelers.

Best Destinations for Multigenerational Travel in 2025: Top Family Friendly Getaways

Alaska – Best Destination for Multigenerational Travel in 2025

Best Destinations for Multigenerational Travel in 2025: Top Family Friendly Getaways - Family Near a Glacier in Alaska

One of the best destinations for multigenerational travel in 2025 is Alaska. A vacation in Alaska promises adventures filled with discovery, shared experiences, and lasting memories.

There are quite a few options for how your family experiences this state. You can simply fly to one of the major cities. Or you can cruise to different ports.

If you choose the latter, I recommend small ship cruises. These cruise ships can reach areas where the larger cruise ships can’t reach. Plus, your family will receive more personalized experience options like kayaking near glaciers and guided shore excursions.

Other activities to consider during your family vacation in Alaska include dog sledding, wildlife viewing in Denali and Kenai Fjords National Parks, and guided tours of glaciers.

Another fabulous way to explore Alaska is to take a ride on the Alaska Railroad. This train travels almost five hundred miles throughout the state’s spectacular landscape. Your family can disembark at the numerous stops to participate in activities.

Check out these bucket list destinations in Alaska for your next family vacation.

Galapagos Islands

The Galapagos Islands are a dream destination for many travelers. So, if you are traveling with multiple generations, you might as well choose a dream destination for creating memories!

Once-in-a-lifetime adventures can be experienced during a vacation in the Galapagos Islands. Plus, I can help arrange family friendly and eco-friendly tours for your multigenerational vacation.

Consider a visit to the Charles Darwin Research Station to learn about conservation as a family. Island hopping excursions allow everyone to see more of the islands, while exploring diverse ecosystems together.

Of course, you won’t want to skip snorkeling with sea lions and spending time with giant tortoises while on vacation with your family in the Galapagos Islands.

Use my travel guide to the Galapagos Islands for your multigenerational vacation.

Lisbon, Portugal

Best Destinations for Multigenerational Travel in 2025: Top Family Friendly Getaways - Tram 28 in Lisbon, Portugal

Lisbon is a city that offers charm, cultural activities, and family friendly activities. Which is why it is one of the best destinations for multigenerational travel in 2025.

I recommend starting with a ride on Tram 28 to check out the city’s neighborhoods. This is an excellent way to learn where restaurants and attractions are located throughout the city. After all, you never know when you will see something interesting to return to later.

The whole family will love spending time at Oceanário de Lisboa. This is one of the largest aquariums in Europe. You should plan on spending at least a few hours there, as you all check out the marine life.

A family friendly Fado show is an excellent way to listen to traditional Portuguese music during your vacation.

Banff, Canada

You won’t need to travel too far from the US to experience one of the best family-friendly vacation destinations in 2025. Banff, Canada offers year-round family fun. And this year, there are more family oriented outdoor activities within Banff National Park.

The entire family will love riding the Banff Gondola. Check out incredible views during your ride. There are also interactive exhibits that will capture everyone’s attention.

Everyone should be able to walk the trails at Johnston Canyon. These are easy scenic walks that are ideal for families.

If you want to see this area of Canada from a different perspective, go canoeing on Lake Louise. No matter what you do during your family vacation in Banff, keep an eye out for bears, elk, and mountain goats. Wildlife is everywhere in this area, so it is almost guaranteed you will see something.

Sydney, Australia

Sydney, Australia is one of the best destinations for multigenerational travel in 2025. Although, you can visit anywhere in this country with your family and have an amazing time.

If you want to start your vacation in Sydney on a more relaxed note, I recommend taking a Sydney Harbour cruise. This is an excellent way to see the city’s sights from a different perspective. Plus, you get to relax after your long flight.

While younger kids may not appreciate the cultural aspects of the Sydney Opera House, you should still take the time for a behind the scenes tour. If a performance is happening during your visit, the grandparents can enjoy it one night. Or the grandparents can watch the kids while the parents attend.

A day at the beach is a must while on a family vacation in Australia. Bondi Beach is one of the best beaches for families. While you can spend the entire day on the sand building sandcastles, there are other options. Consider a coastal walk. Or take the family-friendly surfing lessons that are offered.

Check out these other family friendly activities in Australia for your vacation.

Yellowstone National Park

Family Walking Around the Grand Prismatic Spring in Yellowstone National Park

There are sixty-three national parks to visit in the US. However, Yellowstone National Park is one of the best family friendly vacation destinations. This is because there are plenty of activities your family can do outdoors during your vacation.

I recommend taking one of the wildlife safaris to see bison, elk, and bears. The guides will ensure you don’t miss any of the wildlife that lives within this national park.

The kids will love the engaging activities offered with the junior ranger programs. And parents and grandparents will love learning along with the kids or sharing the knowledge they already have.

Some hikes in Yellowstone National Park may be too difficult for older adults or those with limited mobility. Thankfully, you can drive to sights like the Old Faithful Geyser. You will need to time your visit properly though, or you will miss the eruption of this geyser.

Costa Rica – Unique Best Destination for Multigenerational Travel in 2025

Eco-adventures and nature-filled experiences will bring your family closer during a vacation in Costa Rica. The activity that should be at the top of your list during your family vacation in Costa Rica is visiting Arenal Volcano National Park. You can hike along the trails there before soaking in the natural hot springs.

Depending on the time of year you visit, your family may be able to witness sea turtle nesting in Tortuguero National Park. This unforgettable moment happens between July and October each year. However, peak activity occurs between July and August.

Guided wildlife tours are available in the Monteverde Cloud Forest. Ziplining adventures are another option in this area of Costa Rica.

The kids will beg for time at the beach during your Costa Rica vacation. The beach Manuel Antonio is your best option. The kids can play in the gentle waves, while the adults relax on the sand.

Barcelona, Spain

Is your family searching for diverse activities for your multigenerational vacation in 2025? If you are, I recommend adding Barcelona, Spain to your list of places to visit. Barcelona offers a vibrant mix of architecture, culture, and beachside fun.

Adults can wander around Park Güell to see the whimsical designs of Gaudi. The kids can climb and play during this time, so they won’t be bored as the adults marvel at what they see.

When everyone gets hungry, I recommend going to La Boqueria Market. This market has a lively atmosphere. And you can try many of the local delicacies, which ensures you will no longer be hungry. Oh, and those samples may get your kids to try new foods they wouldn’t try back home.

If your family has the energy to stay out later one night, head over to the Magic Fountain of Montjuïc. The light and water show at this fountain will captivate the attention of everyone in your family.

There will be plenty of time for you to lounge on a beach while on a family vacation in Barcelona. However, the most family friendly beach is Barceloneta Beach. So, you may want to choose to visit that one the most during your vacation.

Check out the best things to do in Barcelona during your multigenerational vacation.

Hawaii

Multigenerational Family on the Beach While on Vacation

All the Hawaiian Islands are perfect for family vacations. However, it is important you decide which Hawaiian Island is perfect for your multigenerational vacation in 2025. I usually recommend Maui and Oahu. But we can discuss which islands will best fit your family’s needs.

Pearl Harbor Memorial is usually one of the favorite attractions for a Hawaiian family vacation. This tour will share many invaluable insights into that historical time.

Interactive experiences showcasing Hawaiian traditions can be seen at the Polynesian Cultural Center. And there is no better way to explore the Molokini Crater than going on a snorkeling adventure.

Surfing is a popular activity in Waikiki, and the rest of Hawaii. Adventurous members of your family will want to take lessons, while the others sit back and watch.

Rome, Italy

Imagine visiting a destination where you can experience the past each day, while enjoying delicious cuisine in between each stop. It is completely possible when you choose to take your multigenerational vacation in Rome, Italy. Plus, this best family friendly vacation destination promises enhanced guided tours and family friendly museums for 2025.

I recommend having me secure your spot for a Colosseum tour while I am planning your multigenerational vacation. This will ensure you can skip the line when you arrive. And you will get to enjoy an interactive tour filled with gladiator stories that will thrill each family member.

I can do the same for Vatican City, so you don’t spend most of your time waiting in line. This will give you more time to admire the Sistine Chapel and St. Peter’s Basilica.

A bike ride through the Villa Borghese Gardens will allow you to see a beautiful spot in the city. I recommend bringing a picnic lunch with you to extend your time in these gardens.

There are plenty of cooking classes you can take while on a family vacation in Rome. If your kids are old enough, you can all take one together to learn how to make fresh pasta.

London, England

Harry Potter fans will love going on vacation to London, England. So, if your kids are hesitant to spend time with you and their grandparents, tell them you are going on a Harry Potter adventure. Their moods will change dramatically. Especially when you have me schedule a Harry Potter Studio Tour for your family.

I can also arrange tours of London, so you can all see Big Ben, London Eye, Buckingham Palace, and Kensington Gardens. Over at the Tower of London, take the interactive tours to ensure history is brought to life for your family.

A day of rest can be experienced in Hyde Park. You can all enjoy a family picnic or go paddle boating.

Orlando, Florida – Popular Best Destination for Multigenerational Travel in 2025

You must have known that Orlando would be on this list of best destinations for multigenerational travel in 2025. After all, it is home to Disney World and Universal Studios.

There are new attractions and activities coming to both these theme parks in 2025. Grandparents will feel nostalgic, as they take the grandkids on the rides they took you on when you were little. Teens will love the thrilling ride options. And you will all stand and wave, as characters walk by during the parades.

Over at Discovery Cove, you can swim with dolphins and snorkel in tropical lagoons. Creating memories will be easy when you take the time to visit with the marine life at Discovery Cove.

There are plenty of nearby attractions to consider when you take a family vacation in Orlando. Kennedy Space Center is one of those attractions. This is an excellent option for anyone who dreams of flying to the moon one day.

Check out these amazing things to do in Orlando during your next multigenerational vacation.

When it comes to planning a memorable vacation that caters to all ages, the best destinations for multigenerational travel in 2025 offer something for everyone. These destinations create opportunities for families to bond, learn, and relax together. Whether your family prefers cultural experiences, outdoor adventures, or simply soaking up the sun on the beach, these family friendly vacation spots ensure every generation has an unforgettable experience. I recommend considering these remarkable destinations to create lasting memories that will be cherished for years to come.

Planning the perfect family getaway? Look no further than Vermont. This state is a charming destination packed with adventure, natural beauty, and fun for all ages. Whether you’re exploring scenic hiking trails, sampling fresh apple cider, or watching glass be hand-blown, you will make unforgettable memories on your family vacation in Vermont. Today, I am sharing the best things to do in Vermont for families. There are a variety of Vermont family vacation ideas that cater to kids and adults. You’ll find plenty of exciting things to do in Vermont with kids. I can personalize your itinerary, so you can create lasting memories right in the heart of this New England state.

Best Things to Do in Vermont for Families

Hike a Trail at Mount Philo State Park – Best Outdoor Thing to Do in Vermont with Family

Best Things to Do in Vermont for Families - Family Hiking Together in Vermont

There are plenty of family friendly hiking trails in Vermont. Over in Charlotte, Vermont, you can hike a looped trail within Mount Philo State Park.

This looped trail is just under two miles in length. It will take your family through the forest to the summit. At the summit, you can see breathtaking panoramic views of the Adirondack Mountains and Lake Champlain.

I recommend taking a picnic lunch with you to enjoy at the summit. It will be a perfect way to spend time together as a family while enjoying the outdoors.

Grab a Drink at The Vermont Brewery

The Vermont Brewery opened in 1988. It is currently the longest running brewery in the state. And it is family friendly, so you won’t need to worry about the kids being bored during this part of your Vermont vacation.

You will find this local brewery in Burlington. I recommend visiting for lunch or dinner. After all, you will want to indulge on their pub food while drinking a pint or two.

They always have eleven types of beer on tap. However, they rotate what is on tap. Therefore, you may not always find your favorite available. But you should be able to find a new favorite every time you visit.

Use my travel guide during your family vacation in Vermont.

Eat Ice Cream at the Ben and Jerry’s Ice Cream Factory

Ben and Jerry’s Ice Cream Factory is in Waterbury. Your family can take a tour to see how they make their ice cream.

During your tour, you will stand high above the factory floor. This will allow you to look down at the entire ice cream making process.

At the end of your tour, everyone in your family will get a small ice cream cone that contains the flavor of the day.

And yes, this is one of the best things to do in Vermont for families.

See Teddy Bears at the Vermont Teddy Bear Company

A visit to the Teddy Bear Company in Vermont is another popular thing to do while on vacation with family.

A Bear Ambassador will be with you every step of the way during your tour of the Vermont Teddy Bear Company factory. The tour is very informative. And you will be surprised to see how these bears are carefully created by hand.

Before the end of your tour, you will spend a little time in the Bear Hospital. This is where all teddy bears go when they need a little extra TLC.

While you can purchase a bear inside the Bear Shop, you can also create your very own bear. I recommend the later if you truly want to create memories during your time in Vermont.

Drink Apple Cider at Cold Hollow Cider Mill – A Delicious Thing to Do in Vermont with Family

Best Things to Do in Vermont for Families - Cold Hollow Coder Mill in Vermont

There is so much to do at the Cold Hollow Cider Mill in Waterbury Center. I recommend grabbing a bite to eat at the Apple Core Luncheonette and Brew before you begin the rest of your cider adventure.

Then check out the cider press, donut robot, and the honeybee corner. Before you leave, grab all the yummy Vermont products that are for purchase at the store. There are hundreds of items to choose from, so take your time as you are shopping. After all, you won’t want to leave anything behind!

This is the perfect place to purchase honey, cheese, maple syrup, apple cider donuts, and so much more.

Eat Cheese at Cabot Cheese

Over in Cabot, Vermont, you will discover Cabot Cheese. While you can no longer take a tour of their cheesemaking factory, you can watch the process on a television in their store.

Afterwards, wander around testing all types of delicious creamy cheeses and other products with your family. You will have a difficult time deciding what to purchase.

I recommend having a large cooler filled with ice with you because it will be full when you go to return home.

This is one of the best things to do in Vermont for families when everyone needs a little snack in the middle of the afternoon.

Learn about Maple Syrup at Sugarbush Farm, Inc.

You must plan your road trip to Vermont carefully if you want to see all the maple sugaring fun. While the sugaring takes place during the cold winter months, you can still learn quite a bit during a visit to this farm at any time of the year.

I recommend taking the maple walk and the sugarhouse self-tour. They are both exciting things to do in Vermont with kids.

Don’t forget to grab some maple syrup, as well as maple cream and maple cookies before you leave at the end of the day.

Vacationing in Vermont with family during the winter? Check out these incredible ski resorts!

Learn About Glassblowing at Robert Burch Glass

One of the best places to watch a glassblowing demonstration is Robert Burch Glass in southern Vermont. The owner has been blowing glass for more than thirty years now. So, he can answer all your questions easily.

Your family can even take a glassblowing lesson if you have always been interested in learning how to do this craft.

After your demonstration or class, you will want to do a little shopping. This will allow you to go home from your vacation with a few souvenirs to remember all your glassblowing adventures.

Vermont is a treasure trove of family adventures. There are plenty of Vermont family vacation ideas to choose from. I can help you determine the best things to do in Vermont for your family, so you can create lasting memories during your vacation.

Planning a family vacation to Boston? The Freedom Trail in Boston is the perfect way to combine fun and education, giving kids and adults alike a chance to walk in the footsteps of history. This two-and-a-half-mile red brick path winds through the city of Boston. It connects sixteen historic sites on the Freedom Trail for families to explore together. From the iconic Paul Revere House to the towering Bunker Hill Monument, there are plenty of things to see on the Freedom Trail that will bring history to life. These must-see places in Boston will turn your trip into an unforgettable adventure. And the memories you will make along the way will be priceless. So, lace up your walking shoes and get ready for a journey through time!

Freedom Trail in Boston: Explore Must-See Sites During Your Family Vacation

Boston Common – The First Stop on the Freedom Trail in Boston

Freedom Trail in Boston: Explore Must-See Sites During Your Family Vacation - Boston Common on the Freedom Trail

Most tourists like yourself begin their Freedom Trail journey at Boston Common. This is one of the oldest public parks in the country. The park has approximately fifty acres. Centuries ago, this park was a pasture for Puritan settlers. The military then took it over for their use.

Today, you will see families having picnics, people running, and during the winter, ice skating on the pond.

Use my travel guide for Boston to help you before and during your family vacation.

Park Street Church

Park Street Church was built in 1809. “My Country, Tis of Thee” was first sung publicly in this church in 1831. When you arrive at this Freedom Trail site during your family vacation in Boston, point out the two-hundred-seventeen-foot steeple to the kids.

Granary Burying Ground

Old cemeteries hold lots of history. The Granary Burying Ground dates back to 1660. Numerous notable people are buried here. The most famous people include Paul Revere, John Hancock, and Samuel Adams.

As you wander around, have your kids point out the oldest headstones. Or have them point out all the people they learned about in history class in school.

Old Corner Bookstore – Unique Stop on the Freedom Trail in Boston

A family vacation isn’t a family vacation until you have spent time inside a bookstore! Thankfully, the Old Corner Bookstore on the Freedom Trail in Boston isn’t any ordinary bookstore.

Nope! This building was constructed in 1718. And it was used by a Boston publishing company in the 19th century. In fact, Nathaniel Hawthorne and Harriet Beecher Stowe both had books published by this company.

I recommend wandering through this building, searching for historical items. And of course, making a purchase or two before you leave.

Check out these other bookstores to visit during family vacations.

Old State House

The Old State House was constructed in 1713. It was where the colonial government met many years ago. It was also where those in government witnessed the infamous Boston Massacre in 1770.

I recommend going inside to explore the interactive exhibits. Your family can also stand on the balcony. It is on that balcony where the Declaration of Independence was first read in Boston.

Faneuil Hall Marketplace – A Popular Stop on the Freedom Trail in Boston

Freedom Trail in Boston: Explore Must-See Sites During Your Family Vacation - Faneuil Hall on the Freedom Trail in Boston

The Faneuil Hall Marketplace has been a part of Boston’s history since 1742. At that time, merchants and fishermen sold items to the locals. However, it wasn’t long before prominent people like George Washington and Samuel Adams used this area to give inspirational speeches.

This marketplace received major renovations back in the 1970s and it looks slightly different nowadays. Currently, there are approximately eighty shops, restaurants, and pubs at Faneuil Hall. And yet, your family can still see, and imagine, the history that took place at this site on the Freedom Trail in Boston.

Old North Church

April 18, 1775, was an important night in Boston’s history. This church was where Robert Newman signaled to the locals that the British were approaching.

The Old North Church is the oldest church in the city. You can see the family names from years ago on the private benches.

I recommend climbing the steps to the top of the tower to see the panoramic views of the city. Feel free to say, “one if by land, two if by sea”, while at the top to reenact history.

There is a museum tucked away into the gift shop next door. So, make sure you check that out before you continue along the Freedom Trail during your family vacation.

Paul Revere House

Freedom Trail in Boston: Explore Must-See Sites During Your Family Vacation - Paul Revere House on the Freedom Trail in Boston

Everyone knows the important role Paul Revere played when the British were arriving to attack. However, not many people have seen his home.

Paul Revere’s home was built in 1680. He lived in that home from 1770 through 1800. It is the oldest home in the city.

You can tour his home during your family vacation in Boston. Inside, you will see the original furniture, as well as some of the silver he produced.

Bunker Hill Monument

You can see the Bunker Hill Monument well before you reach it, as you are walking along the Freedom Trail in Boston. This shouldn’t be surprising since it towers over the city.

If your children are old enough, I recommend climbing the two-hundred-ninety-four steps to the top of the monument. You should also take a selfie once you reach the top to commemorate your efforts. And to remember how you managed to persuade your kids to keep going.

Check out the best bars in Boston (and yes, Cheers is on the list!)

USS Constitution and Museum – The Last Stop on the Freedom Trail in Boston

The USS Constitution is known as Old Ironsides. It is the oldest warship still in the water today.

She first set sail on July 22, 1798. Her final voyage was July 21, 1997. The USS Constitution is currently a museum, so board the ship with your family for a tour. The tours occur every half hour. Your tour guide will be dressed in clothes from the Revolutionary War.

Exploring the Freedom Trail in Boston is more than just a walk through history. It’s a chance for families to step back in time and experience the stories that shaped the US. Every stop along the Freedom Trail offers an opportunity to spark curiosity and conversation. Unforgettable adventures are waiting your family at these must-see places in Boston, as well as many others. And I can help you see the destinations you want to see the most by creating a personalized itinerary for your family vacation in Boston.

Family adventures come in many shapes and sizes. I love planning vacations that are unique to each family. If your family loves the great outdoors and seeing wildlife in their natural surroundings, I recommend you consider a Grand Teton National Park vacation. That is where you will find the excitement and experiences your family is looking for. One of those experiences is the Grand Teton Winter Safari. Today, I am sharing a little information about the Grand Teton Winter Safari, so you can see if this magical experience is perfect for your next family vacation.

Grand Teton Winter Safari: An Amazing Family Adventure

Winter Safari Options

Grand Teton Winter Safari: An Amazing Family Adventure - Moose During Winter in Grand Teton National Park

A Grand Teton Winter Safari tour can be a half-day or a full day. I prefer the full-day tour option, because it allows you to really immerse yourself in the local environment.

However, if your family vacation time is limited, a half-day is still going to give you the memories you are searching for.

A full-day Grand Teton winter safari will begin with breakfast. Afterward, you will venture into Grand Teton National Park, as well as the National Elk Refuge. So many animals live within these two areas. Imagine seeing elk, bison, moose, deer, wolves, big horn sheep, and bald eagles in their natural habitat.

Lunch is provided at a local restaurant. After your meal, your time will be spent either back in the park or at the National Museum of Wildlife Art.

Before your winter safari is over, you will take a sleigh ride through the National Elk Refuge.

Check out these other adventures your family can have inside Grand Teton National Park.

When it the Grand Teton Winter Safari?

Grand Teton Winter Safari: An Amazing Family Adventure - Winter Fun in Grand Teton National Park

Your family can enjoy the Grand Teton Winter Safari from November through April. The sleigh rides do not usually begin until December. They are all dependent on the weather and the amount of snowfall.

The best part about these winter safaris is that they are always small. There are no more than eight people within the group. So, there is a chance your family will be the only ones participating when you are visiting.

Other safari destinations right here in the US you should consider for your next family vacation.

It is important to note everyone in your group must be at least eight years of age to participate in the Grand Teton Winter Safari. There is no age limit for private winter safaris. Therefore, those will be the best option if you are traveling with smaller children.

The Grand Teton winter safari is just one of the many options in this part of the country. But do not feel like you are limited to this one thing while on a family vacation. I have so many other options to add to your next Grand Teton National Park vacation, as well as every other family vacation you want to take in the future.

So, are you ready to have me plan your family vacation and include the winter safari?

If you said yes, I would like to invite you to schedule a planning session with me by clicking here. Clicking the link will take you directly to my digital calendar to schedule a time that is convenient for you.

Acadia National Park is the only national park in New England. The beauty within this park makes up for the fact there is no other national park for miles. A visit to Acadia National Park will have you wondering why anyone would want to visit any other national park in the country. Mainly because there is so much to do and see here. Plus, with so many extraordinary views, you may think you have finally found the piece of paradise you have always been looking for during your next family vacation.

Acadia National Park: Things to Do During Your Family Vacation

Watch the Sunrise in Acadia National Park

Acadia National Park: Things to Do During Your Family Vacation - Sunrise from Cadillac Mountain in Acadia National Park

Watching the sunrise from anywhere in Acadia National Park during your family vacation will take your breath away. However, if you want the best experience, I recommend going over to Cadillac Mountain early one day.

You must start your journey to the summit of Cadillac Mountain early in the morning. But your reward will be the first light to touch the east coast during certain days of the year. If you are not a morning person, you can always choose to watch the sunset instead.

Use my travel guide to help you start planning a family vacation in Maine.

Stop at the Hulls Cove Visitor Center

Most people will skip over the visitor centers at the national parks, due to the crowding. I always stop at them though, because they are jam-packed with important information that allows me to enjoy my visits so much more.

So, take my advice and visit Hulls Cove Visitor Center to talk to a ranger before you venture out to explore Acadia National Park.

Go Hiking on the Trails in Acadia National Park

There are so many different hiking trails to choose from within Acadia National Park. You will definitely not be able to do them all during your family vacation. However, you should be able to do a couple.

I recommend the Precipice Trail, which is just over two miles long. The Beehive Trail is a little shorter at a mile and a half. Plus, it is not as high as the former trail, which is good if you are scared of heights.

Check out these other hiking trails in Acadia National Park.

Take a Drive Along the Scenic Park Loop

Acadia National Park: Things to Do During Your Family Vacation - Scenic Park Loop in Acadia National Park

The scenic park loop in Acadia National Park is one of the best things you can do during your family vacation in Maine. This road is twenty-seven miles long.

You can see many attractions and landmarks during your drive. A few of the most notable things you will see include Cadillac Mountain, Otter Cliff, Sand Beach, Jordan Pond, and Thunder Hole.

I recommend you plan on at least half a day for this drive, so you can make as many stops along the way as you wish.

Check out this 8-day itinerary for an amazing family vacation in Maine that includes a visit to Acadia National Park.

Visit Bass Harbor Head Lighthouse

The most popular attraction in Acadia National Park is the Bass Harbor Head Lighthouse. There are two trails that lead to this lighthouse. They are both just over a mile long. Although, one is steeper than the other.

The Bass Harbor Head Lighthouse is still in operation, but you cannot go inside. You can take pictures though. I recommend taking advantage of the many different vantage points. This ensures you capture the best shots to frame when you get home from your family vacation.

These are some of the best things to do in Acadia National Park during your next family vacation in Maine. I can recommend so many other things to do for your family trip too. After all, I want to make sure you have the best family vacation when you travel through the state of Maine.

Iceland

Visiting Iceland is like stepping into another world. Dramatic landscapes are filled with glaciers, volcanic craters, hot springs, and geysers. It all offers a surreal experience that’s unlike any other destination for family and friend getaways. Whether you’re soaking in the warmth of a natural geothermal pool or marveling at the powerful waterfalls cascading down lush cliffs, Iceland’s natural beauty is truly breathtaking.

The ideal time to visit for a once-in-a-lifetime experience is between October and March. This is when the Aurora Borealis (Northern Lights) paint the night sky in mesmerizing shades of green, pink, and purple. These otherworldly lights dance across the dark Arctic sky. The bright lights create a magical display that’s beautiful and deeply moving.

Aside from the Northern Lights, Iceland offers a wide array of unforgettable experiences. A visit to Húsavík is a must for anyone interested in whale watching. During the summer months, you’ll have the opportunity to spot humpback whales, minke whales, and even blue whales.

While in Húsavík, don’t miss the chance to visit the Arctic Henge. It is an impressive monument inspired by Norse mythology. The structure was built to align with the sun’s movements. It creates a unique experience for visitors, particularly during the solstices.

Explore the Golden Circle, a popular route showcasing the country’s most iconic sites, including Thingvellir National Park. Another must-see site is the Blue Lagoon This geothermal spa is surrounded by black lava fields. Relax in the warm, mineral-rich waters while taking in the striking surroundings there.

No trip to Iceland would be complete without exploring its spectacular waterfalls. Gullfoss (Golden Falls) is one of the most famous. Another breathtaking waterfall is Seljalandsfoss. Visitors can walk behind the cascade for an incredible, close-up experience.

Lapland is an amazing mom getaway for any family and friend vacation!

Cartagena, Columbia

Cartagena is a city nestled on Colombia’s Caribbean coast. This city has undergone a remarkable transformation. Cartagena is now a vibrant and welcoming destination rich in history, culture, and charm. Whether you’re wandering through its colorful streets or soaking in the beauty of its coastal views, Cartagena is a place that will captivate your senses during a family and friend getaway.

One of the top attractions in the city is the iconic San Felipe Castle (Castillo de San Felipe de Barajas). This castle is a 16th-century fortress that stands as a testament to the city’s colonial past. This UNESCO World Heritage site is a must-see for history enthusiasts. The castle is a sprawling complex of walls, ramparts, and underground tunnels.

As you explore its vast grounds, you’ll encounter hidden passageways and secret bunkers. Each one tells the story of Cartagena’s strategic importance during colonial times.

In addition to the historical sites, Cartagena is also known for its vibrant Old Town. Stroll through colorful colonial-era streets. Admire beautifully preserved architecture. And relax in charming plazas.

The Walled City (Ciudad Amurallada) is a UNESCO-listed area where cobblestone streets are lined with pastel-colored buildings, boutique shops, lively cafés, and street vendors selling local crafts. You’ll feel as though you’ve stepped back in time as you explore this enchanting part of the city. Especially since every corner holds a new discovery.

For a more tranquil experience, take a short boat ride to Isla Grande. This idyllic island, part of the Rosario Islands archipelago, is a paradise for those seeking relaxation and natural beauty. The serene, crystal-clear blue waters and white sandy beaches are perfect for unwinding. The island’s lush vegetation and vibrant marine life provide plenty of opportunities for snorkeling, kayaking, or simply enjoying the peaceful surroundings.

The island’s dense rainforests are home to unique flora and fauna, making them perfect for hiking and eco-tourism.

A breathtaking sight on the island is Marigot Bay. This serene and picturesque harbor is one of the most beautiful in the world.

However, St. Lucia’s most iconic landmark is undoubtedly the Pitons. They are two towering volcanic spires that rise dramatically from the Caribbean Sea. In addition to its natural beauty, St. Lucia also offers a rich cultural experience. The island’s history, from its indigenous Carib and Arawak peoples to its colonial past, is reflected in its architecture, cuisine, and festivals. Be sure to explore the charming town of Soufrière, where you can experience local life, try delicious Caribbean dishes like fried fish with provisions (root vegetables), and shop for handmade crafts. If you’re lucky enough to visit during the St. Lucia Jazz Festival, you’ll be treated to world-class performances against the backdrop of the island’s stunning scenery.

Did you know you can combine an amazing family vacation in Kentucky with the Kentucky Derby? As a travel advisor, I have made it my goal to make sure parents get all those memory-making moments while on family vacations with their kids. You don’t even need to travel halfway across the world to accomplish this. You can easily reach your goal of making memories with your kids in nearby states like Kentucky. I know not a lot of people consider Kentucky for family vacations. I am bringing it up as a possibility, though, because the Kentucky Derby isn’t too far away. Therefore, if you want to take a family vacation in the beginning of May, keep the state of Kentucky in mind.

Celebrate the Kentucky Derby During a Family Vacation

There is a lot you may want to learn about the wonderful state of Kentucky. You will be surprised what I learned while researching the Kentucky Derby and other family friendly activities in this state.

Kentucky Derby

Celebrate the Kentucky Derby During a Family Vacation - Churchill Downs in Louisville Kentucky

The Kentucky Derby is the oldest horse race in the world. However, you may hear this race referred to as “The Run for the Roses”. This is because the winning horse is draped in a garland of roses.

This race was established in 1875. The race is on the first Saturday in May at Churchill Downs in Louisville, Kentucky. The race itself is one and a quarter miles long.

Elaborate hats are worn for all the Kentucky Derby festivities. And you will see numerous people drinking mint juleps, which is the traditional drink of the derby.

The kids will love watching the horse racing at Churchill Downs. However, if they are a little hesitant, let them know that the next activity on your itinerary is visiting the Louisville Slugger Museum. That will keep their frowns to a minimum!

Check out the two museums I recommend everyone visits while on family vacations in Kentucky.

Firsts in the State of Kentucky Besides the Kentucky Derby

  • Post-It Notes originated in Cynthiana, Kentucky.
  • The very first Mother’s Day was held in Kentucky in the 1880s. It was at that time a teacher, Mary Wilson, recognized her mother. Mother’s Day didn’t become an official holiday until 1916.
  • The first restaurant to serve cheeseburgers was Kaelin’s in Louisville in 1934.
  • Kentucky Fried Chicken started in Corbin, Kentucky.
  • Patty and Mildred Hill wrote the song, Happy Birthday, in Kentucky. Surprisingly, it took a while for the song to become as popular as it is today.

See the must-visit bourbon and whiskey distilleries in Louisville.

Fun Facts About the State of Kentucky

Celebrate the Kentucky Derby During a Family Vacation - Mammoth Cave National Park in Kentucky

  • Thomas Edison showed off his light bulb to the public at the Southern Exposition in Louisville in 1883.
  • Abraham Lincoln was born in Kentucky.
  • Mammoth Cave in Kentucky is the longest cave system in the entire world.
  • Kentucky was originally a county within the state of Virginia. It became its own state in 1792.
  • The Kentucky Bend is comprised of 17 square miles. It is part of the state of Kentucky, but it is not attached to the rest of the state. A couple of people who live there must drive 40 miles actually to find themselves in another part of the state.
  • The World Peace Bell is located in Newport, Kentucky.
  • Covington’s Cathedral Basilica of the Assumption has the largest hand-blown glass window in the world.
  • The man who founded Duncan Hines was born in Bowling Green in 1880.
  • Half of this state is comprised of forests.
  • You can check out a moonbow in Kentucky. Don’t know what a moonbow is?? It is rays of light that are emitted from the moon. Visit the Cumberland Waterfall in Kentucky for the best moonbow views.
  • There are five ways to pronounce Louisville. The pronunciations include Louie-Ville, Luhvul, Loo-A-Ville, Loo-A-Vull, and Luis-Ville.
  • There are more bourbon barrels than people in Kentucky.
  • Fort Knox stores the largest amount of gold in the world.
  • Kentucky’s state beverage is milk.

Laws You Must Obey While on a Family Vacation in Kentucky

  • It is illegal to throw tomatoes, rotten eggs, or flowers at a public speaker in Kentucky.
  • Fines of $100 are possible if you try to take a reptile into a church in Kentucky.
  • It is illegal for a woman to marry one man more than 3 times in Kentucky.
  • When you are in Kentucky, you must shower at least once a year according to the law.

Have you been yearning to get away from it all this year? Are you ready to spend some quality time with your family, as you experience new things together and have a good time? If you answered yes to both those questions, one of the amazing hikes in the Great Smoky Mountains will be exactly what you are looking for. Of course, there is so much to do in this area. I can personalize an itinerary for you that includes hiking in the Great Smoky Mountains, as well as other activities. It will all be exactly what you are looking for when it comes to making amazing family memories you will cherish forever. Today, I am sharing a few of the best hikes in the Great Smoky Mountains. At least one of them will be perfect while enjoying your family vacation.

Amazing Hikes in the Great Smoky Mountains for Your Family Vacation

Chimney Tops Trail – A Challenging Hike in the Great Smoky Mountains

Amazing Hikes in the Great Smoky Mountains for Your Family Vacation - Sunrise in the Great Smoky Mountains

The climb to the top of the Chimney Tops Trail is steep. But older kids should be able to tackle this 3.8-mile round trip hike with you easily. And don’t worry, there are stairs in place where the hike is considerably steeper!

You will find yourself gaining 1,500 feet in elevation during this hike in the Great Smoky Mountains. Therefore, take your time to adjust to all the altitude changes.

When you reach the new observation platform, you will be rewarded with incredible views of Mount LeConte, the slate crags, and the rest of the surrounding area.

If your family loves vacationing in the mountains, check out these other mountain vacation destinations.

Porters Creek Trail – An Easy Hike in the Great Smoky Mountains

Porters Creek Trail is very family-friendly and easy to conquer. It is even considered one of the best hikes in the Great Smoky Mountains.

The trail goes along a historic road and leads directly to Fern Branch Falls. It is best to hike this trail in the spring, because a section of the trail is covered in wildflowers. Allow time to stop at the historic structures and of course, the waterfall at the end.

I guarantee you will be able to take a lot of photos during this hike while on your family vacation.

Deep Creek Loop Trail

Amazing Hikes in the Great Smoky Mountains for Your Family Vacation - Waterfall in the Great Smoky Mountains

Does your family love waterfalls? If they do, then the Deep Creek Loop Trail must be on your hiking list in the Smokies.

This trail loops around and allows you to stop at three different waterfalls. Those waterfalls are Juney Whank Falls, Tom’s Branch Falls, and Indian Creek Falls.

Deep Creek Loop Trail is five miles long. But it offers the peace you may be craving while spending time with your family.

Does your family want to hike the Rocky Mountains? Click here to see my travel guide for planning an amazing family vacation in the Rocky Mountains.

Rainbow Falls Trail

The Rainbow Falls Trail is 5.4 miles round trip. The entire trail goes along the creekside and leads you directly to Rainbow Falls. This waterfall is eighty feet high. It is considered the highest waterfall in the Great Smoky Mountains.

Families that are looking for longer hikes in the Great Smoky Mountains can continue on another 4.2 miles. The extra mileage will lead you directly to the summit of Mount LeConte.

Planning a dream family vacation in New Zealand? Click here to see the best places to go hiking.

Clingman’s Dome Hike

Clingman’s Dome is the third highest mountain in the eastern states. There is a parking area up high on the mountain that offers extraordinary views. But the best panoramic views can be seen from the observation tower at the summit of the mountain.

The path to the summit is only half a mile long from the parking area. The trail is quite steep, but the reward is the views that reach one hundred miles in the distance.

Want to take a family vacation in the Southwest? Click here to see the best places for hiking there.

Newfound Gap to Charlies Bunion on the Appalachian Trail

No one can spend time in the Great Smoky Mountains and not hike at least part of the Appalachian Trail! After all, that trail is the best hike in the Great Smoky Mountains.

The trail between Newfound Gap and Charlies Bunion is 8 miles round trip. During this hike, you will see the Ice Water Spring Shelter. You must have a permit to stay there, but that shouldn’t prevent you from stopping at the building to see it.

When you reach Charlies Bunion, you will see views so stunning you will never want to leave. It is best to do this hike during the late spring and summer because lots of snow is common in this area for the rest of the year.

These are some of the best hikes in the Great Smoky Mountains. There are a few others that are a little shorter and many more that are much longer. Let me help you plan your family vacation in the Great Smoky Mountains. We can include as many of these hikes as you wish, as well as everything else your family will love to do. The result will be those incredible experiences every generation of your family will love!

The Magic Lantern Tour is offered at night. It is best attended on the days around Halloween. However, even if you go at a different time of the year, you will find you can easily learn more about all the pagan rituals that took place in this town.

This is one of the more interactive tours available. So, I recommend you add it to your list if you really want history to come to life during your family vacation.

Salem Ghost Tour

Salem Tours to Consider for Your Family Vacation - The Witch House in Salem MA

There are many hauntings around Salem. But this tour focuses on those lesser-known facts of the hauntings.

You can choose to take the basic tour, which offers eight different locations. However, I recommend the longer version since it offers a few off-the-beaten-path experiences.

This tour is one of the best ways to add a little “spook” to your family vacation.

Check out these other haunted towns for your next spooky vacation.

The Salem Night Tour

If you want to see the Salem witch trial sites at night, the Salem Night Tour must be on your itinerary. Your local guide will take you to the many key sites of the trials. During the tour, they will share the most popular ghost stories.

This walking tour lasts one and a half hours. So, you will still have plenty of nightlife options available when you are done.

Salem Trolley Tour

If you do not want to take one of the many walking tours in Salem, you can easily hop onto the trolley tours. The Salem Trolley Tour is an hour long and covers eight miles.

You get to see many of the Salem witch sites during this tour. Your tour guide will share lots of information during your ride. And you can easily get on and off at the stops all day long.

These are the best historic tours in Salem. You can easily add many of them to your itinerary during your next family vacation.
