Are you searching for a way to create unforgettable bonds with your grandkids? Exploring the best national parks for grandparents and grandkids during a multigenerational vacation is one of the best ways to create lasting memories. There are quite a few family-friendly national parks. Many of those parks are packed with kid approved activities. You can hike along easy trails. Spot wildlife. Or enjoy a relaxing picnic while sharing stories. Today, I am sharing some of the best national parks for kids with you. So, get ready to discover stunning destinations that bring generations together to create memories that will last a lifetime.

Best National Parks for Grandparents and Grandkids: Family Friendly Outdoor Adventures

Yellowstone National Park – An Amazing National Park for Grandparents and Grandkids

Best National Parks for Grandparents and Grandkids: Family Friendly Outdoor Adventures - Old Faithful in Yellowstone National Park

Yellowstone is one of the best national parks for grandparents and grandkids. This captivating national park offers real-life science lessons at every turn. And yet, your grandkids won’t realize they are learning something during your multigenerational vacation.

You can’t visit Yellowstone National Park and not take the time to watch Old Faithful erupt. There is no steep hiking required to reach this geyser. So, check out the eruption times for the day of your visit. Then watch the magic happen right in front of your eyes!

The grandkids will love participating in the Junior Ranger Program at Yellowstone. Help them complete the activities, so they can earn a badge.

Of course, you can’t skip past some of the other must-see destinations within this family-friendly national park. I recommend taking the time to check out the Grand Prismatic Spring, Yellowstone Lake, and Mammoth Hot Springs.

Check out the best things to see in Yellowstone National Park for your next multigenerational vacation.

Acadia National Park

If you are looking for the best national park for kids on the east coast, I recommend Acadia National Park. This beautiful park offers mountain views combined with gorgeous views of the nearby ocean.

Wander around the carriage roads within this national park for grandparents and grandkids. No cars are allowed on these roads. So, they are perfect for walking and biking. Jordan Pond Path is another scenic trail that is perfect for little, and older, feet.

Kids of all ages will love searching for sea creatures while tide pooling at Bar Harbor. You can watch your grandkids having fun with the sea creatures, as you drink your coffee. Or you can get into the water with them to create even more memories.

If your grandkids are early risers, watch the sunrise from Cadillac Mountain. It’s an amazing way to start your day.

Grand Canyon National Park

Grand Canyon National Park is at the top of almost everyone’s list of destinations to visit. You may be tempted to skip this national park for this reason. However, as one of the best family friendly national parks in the world, you will regret that decision.

The South Rim is your best option for a multigenerational vacation. Everyone will love walking along the mostly flat and paved Rim Trail.

During a ride along Desert View Drive, you can stop at historical sites and scenic overlooks. And the kids will love riding the old-fashioned train from Williams to the canyon on the Grand Canyon Railway.

The Junior Ranger Program at the Grand Canyon is quite interactive. The kids will spend hours completing the activities to earn their badge.

When the kids want to purchase souvenirs to take home, venture over to Hopi House or Lookout Studio. They offer the best souvenirs.

And if you stay at the Grand Canyon until later in the evening, head to Mather Point. The sunsets there are incredible.

Great Smoky Mountains – One of the Best National Parks for Grandparents and Grandkids

Best National Parks for Grandparents and Grandkids: Family Friendly Outdoor Adventures - Waterfall in the Great Smoky Mountains

When you are searching for the best national parks for grandparents and grandkids, the Great Smoky Mountains should be near the top of your list. After all, this is one of the most visited national parks in the US. Which isn’t surprising since it is full of waterfalls, wildlife, and wildflowers.

A walk along the paved trail to the Clingmans Dome Observation Tower will lead to amazing views of the park. There are benches at the top. So, you will have places to sit after this slight uphill trek.

The kids will love stepping back in time while visiting the Mountain Farm Museum. And you will all love seeing how people lived and worked back in the 1800s.

Plenty of deer and black bears are visible when you drive along Cades Cove Loop Road.

Other must-see spots within this family-friendly national park include Laurel Falls Trail and the Roaring Fork Motor Nature Trail.

Check out these other multigenerational vacation ideas.

Hawaii Volcanoes National Park – An Excellent National Park for Grandparents and Grandkids

Sometimes you need to fly a little further during your multigenerational vacation to see an incredible national park. Over on the Big Island of Hawaii, you will find lots to see throughout Hawaii Volcanoes National Park. This unique park is packed with cultural heritage, lava tubes, and volcanoes.

Start your visit by exploring the lava fields and steam vents along the Crater Rim Drive. Over at Nāhuku, walk through a real lava tube. I recommend taking flashlights with you to experience the best this lava tube has to offer.

Other must-see destinations within Hawaii Volcanoes National Park include the Halema’uma’u Crater Overlook, Jaggar Museum, and the Kilauea Visitor Center.

Everglades National Park

Animal lovers will want to spend hours within this national park for grandparents and grandkids. I recommend taking at least one of the ranger-led programs. These programs will allow you and your grandkids to learn quite a bit more about the Everglades and the wildlife that lives there.

Gators and birds are everywhere in the Everglades. And you can see many of them during the Shark Valley Tram Tour. The Anhinga Trail is another option if you don’t mind walking to see the local wildlife.

I recommend visiting the Eco Pond at dusk. Bring binoculars to see the different wildlife up close.

Shenandoah National Park

One of the best activities for grandparents and grandkids at Shenandoah National Park is driving along Skyline Drive. This ride offers more than one hundred miles of scenic overlooks.

If you, and your grandkids, prefer walking, venture over to the Limberlost Trail. This accessible loop will take you through a lush forest. Plus, there are other birdwatching, and wildflower walks you will enjoy for the peaceful moments they give you.

The hike to Dark Hollow Falls is a little steep. However, it is manageable for many people. And at night, head over to Big Meadows to stargaze or capture a firefly or two.

Check out the best destinations for multigenerational travel for 2025.

Rocky Mountain National Park

A visit to Rocky Mountain National Park is a breathtaking experience for people of all ages. I recommend starting your journey through this family-friendly national park by visiting the Alpine Visitor Center. It is full of educational exhibits that share what you need to know about different areas of this park.

If you are searching for something unique to do during your multigenerational vacation in the Rocky Mountains, let me recommend a drive along the Trail Ridge Road. It is one of the highest paved roads in the US. So, it will feel like you are driving on top of the world.

Walking along Bear Lake Loop will allow you to take numerous Instagram-worthy pictures. This loop is flat and only a mile long. Therefore, even your youngest grandchild should be able to walk it without a problem.

Other must-see destinations within this national park include Sprague Lake and Moraine Park.

Exploring national parks with your grandkids is more than just a vacation. It’s an opportunity to create stories that span generations. These national parks for grandparents and grandkids offer the perfect mix of scenic beauty, kid-friendly adventures, and accessible fun for everyone. Each national park will invite you to slow down, reconnect, and experience the magic of the outdoors.

Planning a memorable family vacation where everyone can enjoy themselves can be a challenge. But in 2025, the best destinations for multigenerational travel are making it easier than ever to create unforgettable experiences for the whole family. Today, I am sharing some family friendly vacation destinations with you. These destinations offer sun-soaked beaches, cultural experiences, and outdoor adventures. Basically, something for everyone in your family to enjoy, while creating lifelong memories. Let’s start exploring the top destinations that cater to multigenerational travelers.

Best Destinations for Multigenerational Travel in 2025: Top Family Friendly Getaways

Alaska – Best Destination for Multigenerational Travel in 2025

Best Destinations for Multigenerational Travel in 2025: Top Family Friendly Getaways - Family Near a Glacier in Alaska

One of the best destinations for multigenerational travel in 2025 is Alaska. A vacation in Alaska promises adventures filled with discovery, shared experiences, and lasting memories.

There are quite a few options for how your family experiences this state. You can simply fly to one of the major cities. Or you can cruise to different ports.

If you choose the latter, I recommend small ship cruises. These cruise ships can reach areas where the larger cruise ships can’t reach. Plus, your family will receive more personalized experience options like kayaking near glaciers and guided shore excursions.

Other activities to consider during your family vacation in Alaska include dog sledding, wildlife viewing in Denali and Kenai Fjords National Parks, and guided tours of glaciers.

Another fabulous way to explore Alaska is to take a ride on the Alaska Railroad. This train travels almost five hundred miles throughout the state’s spectacular landscape. Your family can disembark at the numerous stops to participate in activities.

Check out these bucket list destinations in Alaska for your next family vacation.

Galapagos Islands

The Galapagos Islands are a dream destination for many travelers. So, if you are traveling with multiple generations, you might as well choose a dream destination for creating memories!

Once-in-a-lifetime adventures can be experienced during a vacation in the Galapagos Islands. Plus, I can help arrange family friendly and eco-friendly tours for your multigenerational vacation.

Consider a visit to the Charles Darwin Research Station to learn about conservation as a family. Island hopping excursions allow everyone to see more of the islands, while exploring diverse ecosystems together.

Of course, you won’t want to skip snorkeling with sea lions and spending time with giant tortoises while on vacation with your family in the Galapagos Islands.

Use my travel guide to the Galapagos Islands for your multigenerational vacation.

Lisbon, Portugal

Best Destinations for Multigenerational Travel in 2025: Top Family Friendly Getaways - Tram 28 in Lisbon, Portugal

Lisbon is a city that offers charm, cultural activities, and family friendly activities. Which is why it is one of the best destinations for multigenerational travel in 2025.

I recommend starting with a ride on Tram 28 to check out the city’s neighborhoods. This is an excellent way to learn where restaurants and attractions are located throughout the city. After all, you never know when you will see something interesting to return to later.

The whole family will love spending time at Oceanário de Lisboa. This is one of the largest aquariums in Europe. You should plan on spending at least a few hours there, as you all check out the marine life.

A family friendly Fado show is an excellent way to listen to traditional Portuguese music during your vacation.

Banff, Canada

You won’t need to travel too far from the US to experience one of the best family-friendly vacation destinations in 2025. Banff, Canada offers year-round family fun. And this year, there are more family oriented outdoor activities within Banff National Park.

The entire family will love riding the Banff Gondola. Check out incredible views during your ride. There are also interactive exhibits that will capture everyone’s attention.

Everyone should be able to walk the trails at Johnston Canyon. These are easy scenic walks that are ideal for families.

If you want to see this area of Canada from a different perspective, go canoeing on Lake Louise. No matter what you do during your family vacation in Banff, keep an eye out for bears, elk, and mountain goats. Wildlife is everywhere in this area, so it is almost guaranteed you will see something.

Sydney, Australia

Sydney, Australia is one of the best destinations for multigenerational travel in 2025. Although, you can visit anywhere in this country with your family and have an amazing time.

If you want to start your vacation in Sydney on a more relaxed note, I recommend taking a Sydney Harbour cruise. This is an excellent way to see the city’s sights from a different perspective. Plus, you get to relax after your long flight.

While younger kids may not appreciate the cultural aspects of the Sydney Opera House, you should still take the time for a behind the scenes tour. If a performance is happening during your visit, the grandparents can enjoy it one night. Or the grandparents can watch the kids while the parents attend.

A day at the beach is a must while on a family vacation in Australia. Bondi Beach is one of the best beaches for families. While you can spend the entire day on the sand building sandcastles, there are other options. Consider a coastal walk. Or take the family-friendly surfing lessons that are offered.

Check out these other family friendly activities in Australia for your vacation.

Yellowstone National Park

Family Walking Around the Grand Prismatic Spring in Yellowstone National Park

There are sixty-three national parks to visit in the US. However, Yellowstone National Park is one of the best family friendly vacation destinations. This is because there are plenty of activities your family can do outdoors during your vacation.

I recommend taking one of the wildlife safaris to see bison, elk, and bears. The guides will ensure you don’t miss any of the wildlife that lives within this national park.

The kids will love the engaging activities offered with the junior ranger programs. And parents and grandparents will love learning along with the kids or sharing the knowledge they already have.

Some hikes in Yellowstone National Park may be too difficult for older adults or those with limited mobility. Thankfully, you can drive to sights like the Old Faithful Geyser. You will need to time your visit properly though, or you will miss the eruption of this geyser.

Costa Rica – Unique Best Destination for Multigenerational Travel in 2025

Eco-adventures and nature-filled experiences will bring your family closer during a vacation in Costa Rica. The activity that should be at the top of your list during your family vacation in Costa Rica is visiting Arenal Volcano National Park. You can hike along the trails there before soaking in the natural hot springs.

Depending on the time of year you visit, your family may be able to witness sea turtle nesting in Tortuguero National Park. This unforgettable moment happens between July and October each year. However, peak activity occurs between July and August.

Guided wildlife tours are available in the Monteverde Cloud Forest. Ziplining adventures are another option in this area of Costa Rica.

The kids will beg for time at the beach during your Costa Rica vacation. The beach Manuel Antonio is your best option. The kids can play in the gentle waves, while the adults relax on the sand.

Barcelona, Spain

Is your family searching for diverse activities for your multigenerational vacation in 2025? If you are, I recommend adding Barcelona, Spain to your list of places to visit. Barcelona offers a vibrant mix of architecture, culture, and beachside fun.

Adults can wander around Park Güell to see the whimsical designs of Gaudi. The kids can climb and play during this time, so they won’t be bored as the adults marvel at what they see.

When everyone gets hungry, I recommend going to La Boqueria Market. This market has a lively atmosphere. And you can try many of the local delicacies, which ensures you will no longer be hungry. Oh, and those samples may get your kids to try new foods they wouldn’t try back home.

If your family has the energy to stay out later one night, head over to the Magic Fountain of Montjuïc. The light and water show at this fountain will captivate the attention of everyone in your family.

There will be plenty of time for you to lounge on a beach while on a family vacation in Barcelona. However, the most family friendly beach is Barceloneta Beach. So, you may want to choose to visit that one the most during your vacation.

Check out the best things to do in Barcelona during your multigenerational vacation.

Hawaii

Multigenerational Family on the Beach While on Vacation

All the Hawaiian Islands are perfect for family vacations. However, it is important you decide which Hawaiian Island is perfect for your multigenerational vacation in 2025. I usually recommend Maui and Oahu. But we can discuss which islands will best fit your family’s needs.

Pearl Harbor Memorial is usually one of the favorite attractions for a Hawaiian family vacation. This tour will share many invaluable insights into that historical time.

Interactive experiences showcasing Hawaiian traditions can be seen at the Polynesian Cultural Center. And there is no better way to explore the Molokini Crater than going on a snorkeling adventure.

Surfing is a popular activity in Waikiki, and the rest of Hawaii. Adventurous members of your family will want to take lessons, while the others sit back and watch.

Rome, Italy

Imagine visiting a destination where you can experience the past each day, while enjoying delicious cuisine in between each stop. It is completely possible when you choose to take your multigenerational vacation in Rome, Italy. Plus, this best family friendly vacation destination promises enhanced guided tours and family friendly museums for 2025.

I recommend having me secure your spot for a Colosseum tour while I am planning your multigenerational vacation. This will ensure you can skip the line when you arrive. And you will get to enjoy an interactive tour filled with gladiator stories that will thrill each family member.

I can do the same for Vatican City, so you don’t spend most of your time waiting in line. This will give you more time to admire the Sistine Chapel and St. Peter’s Basilica.

A bike ride through the Villa Borghese Gardens will allow you to see a beautiful spot in the city. I recommend bringing a picnic lunch with you to extend your time in these gardens.

There are plenty of cooking classes you can take while on a family vacation in Rome. If your kids are old enough, you can all take one together to learn how to make fresh pasta.

London, England

Harry Potter fans will love going on vacation to London, England. So, if your kids are hesitant to spend time with you and their grandparents, tell them you are going on a Harry Potter adventure. Their moods will change dramatically. Especially when you have me schedule a Harry Potter Studio Tour for your family.

I can also arrange tours of London, so you can all see Big Ben, London Eye, Buckingham Palace, and Kensington Gardens. Over at the Tower of London, take the interactive tours to ensure history is brought to life for your family.

A day of rest can be experienced in Hyde Park. You can all enjoy a family picnic or go paddle boating.

Orlando, Florida – Popular Best Destination for Multigenerational Travel in 2025

You must have known that Orlando would be on this list of best destinations for multigenerational travel in 2025. After all, it is home to Disney World and Universal Studios.

There are new attractions and activities coming to both these theme parks in 2025. Grandparents will feel nostalgic, as they take the grandkids on the rides they took you on when you were little. Teens will love the thrilling ride options. And you will all stand and wave, as characters walk by during the parades.

Over at Discovery Cove, you can swim with dolphins and snorkel in tropical lagoons. Creating memories will be easy when you take the time to visit with the marine life at Discovery Cove.

There are plenty of nearby attractions to consider when you take a family vacation in Orlando. Kennedy Space Center is one of those attractions. This is an excellent option for anyone who dreams of flying to the moon one day.

Check out these amazing things to do in Orlando during your next multigenerational vacation.

When it comes to planning a memorable vacation that caters to all ages, the best destinations for multigenerational travel in 2025 offer something for everyone. These destinations create opportunities for families to bond, learn, and relax together. Whether your family prefers cultural experiences, outdoor adventures, or simply soaking up the sun on the beach, these family friendly vacation spots ensure every generation has an unforgettable experience. I recommend considering these remarkable destinations to create lasting memories that will be cherished for years to come.

Family adventures come in many shapes and sizes. I love planning vacations that are unique to each family. If your family loves the great outdoors and seeing wildlife in their natural surroundings, I recommend you consider a Grand Teton National Park vacation. That is where you will find the excitement and experiences your family is looking for. One of those experiences is the Grand Teton Winter Safari. Today, I am sharing a little information about the Grand Teton Winter Safari, so you can see if this magical experience is perfect for your next family vacation.

Grand Teton Winter Safari: An Amazing Family Adventure

Winter Safari Options

Grand Teton Winter Safari: An Amazing Family Adventure - Moose During Winter in Grand Teton National Park

A Grand Teton Winter Safari tour can be a half-day or a full day. I prefer the full-day tour option, because it allows you to really immerse yourself in the local environment.

However, if your family vacation time is limited, a half-day is still going to give you the memories you are searching for.

A full-day Grand Teton winter safari will begin with breakfast. Afterward, you will venture into Grand Teton National Park, as well as the National Elk Refuge. So many animals live within these two areas. Imagine seeing elk, bison, moose, deer, wolves, big horn sheep, and bald eagles in their natural habitat.

Lunch is provided at a local restaurant. After your meal, your time will be spent either back in the park or at the National Museum of Wildlife Art.

Before your winter safari is over, you will take a sleigh ride through the National Elk Refuge.

Check out these other adventures your family can have inside Grand Teton National Park.

When it the Grand Teton Winter Safari?

Grand Teton Winter Safari: An Amazing Family Adventure - Winter Fun in Grand Teton National Park

Your family can enjoy the Grand Teton Winter Safari from November through April. The sleigh rides do not usually begin until December. They are all dependent on the weather and the amount of snowfall.

The best part about these winter safaris is that they are always small. There are no more than eight people within the group. So, there is a chance your family will be the only ones participating when you are visiting.

Other safari destinations right here in the US you should consider for your next family vacation.

It is important to note everyone in your group must be at least eight years of age to participate in the Grand Teton Winter Safari. There is no age limit for private winter safaris. Therefore, those will be the best option if you are traveling with smaller children.

The Grand Teton winter safari is just one of the many options in this part of the country. But do not feel like you are limited to this one thing while on a family vacation. I have so many other options to add to your next Grand Teton National Park vacation, as well as every other family vacation you want to take in the future.

So, are you ready to have me plan your family vacation and include the winter safari?

If you said yes, I would like to invite you to schedule a planning session with me by clicking here. Clicking the link will take you directly to my digital calendar to schedule a time that is convenient for you.

There are currently sixty-two national parks within the United States. While each one is phenomenal, you may not know that a couple in the southwest are best to see during the winter months. Zion National Park, Grand Canyon National Park, and Bryce Canyon National Park are the must-see national parks in the winter when you are vacationing in the southwest.

Must-See National Parks in the Southwest for Your Winter Family Vacation

Zion National Park

Must-See National Parks in the Southwest in the Winter - Spring in Zion National Park

Zion National Park brings slightly warmer temperatures to those looking to vacation in the southwest. This mountainous area doesn’t see the extreme cold temperatures that other national parks do during the winter months. Despite being warm at this park, you will notice that there is a lot of precipitation. All the snow, and subsequent ice, can close trails for days at a time.

Therefore, it is best to have a couple different backup plans in place if you do decide to visit Zion National Park during the winter months. You won’t regret your choice of destination though, because the views are even more dramatic when snow is settling on the red rocks and the surrounding area.

Love the mountains?? Check out these other family friendly mountain vacation destinations!

Bryce Canyon

Bryce Canyon National Park can be found in the state of Utah. It may be cold inside this southwest national park during the winter, but you won’t notice it. Instead, you will notice all the fluffy white snow in stark contrast to the red rocks. Time inside this national park during the winter will have you experiencing one extreme to the next, whether with the weather or the activities you do.

I recommend packing clothing for the cold and making sure it is all waterproof. These items will ensure you can head out on the trails for skiing, snowshoeing, hiking, and so much more. As we are planning your family vacation in Bryce Canyon National Park itinerary, there is one thing we cannot leave off. That is the full-moon snowshoe hikes. Yes, you will need to plan your visit according to the full moon to squeeze them in. However, it will be worth it for the beauty you see under the stars.

Looking for more winter fun for your family vacation?? Check out these winter family activities in Grand Teton!

Grand Canyon

Must-See National Parks in the Southwest for Your Next Winter Family Vacation - Grand Canyon National Park

The southwest national park can be busy year-round. The winter months do bring slightly fewer people to Grand Canyon National Park. However, all those people are at the South Rim since the North Rim closes during the winter. The weather at this park can change in seconds, so it is always wise to pack for the cold, warmth, and the elements.

You can easily hike the trails within Grand Canyon National Park. But if you don’t feel like being outside for that long, you can always take a bus tour instead.

Check out these amazing family friendly activities at the Grand Canyon!

These must-see national parks in the southwest must be on your list for a winter family vacation! Only you know which one will be at the top of your list. And if you can’t figure it out, let me know. As a travel advisor, I can help you make a decision that your entire family will love!

So, are you ready to plan a family vacation to see the national parks in the southwest?

If you said yes, I would like to invite you to schedule a planning session with me by clicking here. When you click on this link, you will be taken directly to my digital calendar to schedule a time that is convenient for you.

Hawaii Volcanoes National Park is full of beauty and geological wonders. It is home to two of the most active volcanoes in the world. Those two volcanoes are Mauna Loa and Kilauea. While Mauna Loa last erupted in 1984, Kilauea has been erupting almost continuously since 1983. The last major eruption, though was in 2018.

If you are one of the people who would love to see the landscape that has been created by erupting volcanoes, you must add this national park to your list of places to see during a vacation in Hawaii. There is so much you can do inside this park. Things such as getting a glimpse of what molten lava looks like months after a major volcano eruption.

Incredible Things to Do While Visiting Hawaii Volcanoes National Park

Drive Along Crater Rim Drive

A smoking and smoldering Halema’uma’u crater can be seen from the Jagger Museum overlook. The drive over to the crater is quite popular because of this. Currently, you cannot drive as far as this overlook on the road due to extensive damage done during the last major eruption. It is uncertain if this area of the park will ever reopen. However, you can still enjoy the views along the portions that are still open.

See the Steam Vents While Hiking the Sulphur Banks Trail

There are a few different places to see steam vents inside this park. The best ones can be experienced as you hike along the Sulphur Banks Trail. This trail is only a mile long and can be reached from the Kilauea Visitor Center parking lot.

Hike the Kilauea Iki Trail

One of the best hikes inside the Hawaii Volcanoes National Park is the Kilauea Iki Trail. This four-mile hike will take you directly down to the crater floor. Make sure you take lots of pictures as you imagine what it looked like years ago, covered in red hot lava.

Drive the Chain of Craters Road

Old lava is everywhere on the Chain of Craters Road. It will all lead you directly down to the ocean. As you are driving along the nineteen miles of this road, you can stop to see the views from many different lookouts. However, your favorite part will be stopping to look at the lava from the years you were all born if a lava field was created during those years. You may also want to consider stopping at the Pu’u Loa Petroglyphs. They share some of what you must know about ancient Hawaiian culture, and you will see why this is considered a sacred site.

The damage that has been caused by Kilauea has been devastating. But it is important to note you can still do incredible things when visiting Hawaii Volcanoes National Park. While you may miss out on a few things, there are still amazing views and opportunities to get up close to old lava and craters.

These are just a few of the things you can do when visiting Hawaii Volcanoes National Park during a vacation in Hawaii.

So, are you ready to visit Hawaii Volcanoes National Park?

If you said yes, I would like to invite you to schedule a planning session with me by clicking here. This will take you directly to my digital calendar to schedule a time that is convenient for you.

National California Day happens to fall on February 22nd, so what better way to celebrate than to plan an incredible vacation in California? This stunning state is filled with sunshine, gentle warm breezes, and a plethora of sights and attractions. Your next family vacation can include amazing family adventures. And as a travel advisor, I can help you determine which adventures are best for your family. So, join me on this journey of adventures to celebrate our 31st state.

Amazing Family Adventures During a Vacation in California

Experience Burney Falls

There are a few waterfalls scattered throughout the state of California. However, not all of them are as spectacular as Burney Falls. This waterfall is in the northern portion of the state. What makes this waterfall incredible is that water comes out of the middle as well as from the top. A dozen holes in the middle get their water from an underground river. If you can tear your family away from the top of the falls, you can hike along the Falls Trail. This looped trail is just over a mile long. It takes you to the bottom of the falls for even more spectacular views. The only downside to visiting this California waterfall is you are not allowed to enter the water to go swimming.

Explore the Ubehebe Crater

There are so many natural wonders in California. However, the Ubehebe Crater in Death Valley is one of the most popular. As long as you don’t mind visiting the hottest place on Earth, this is one family adventure you won’t want to miss out on! If your family is not a fan of the heat, you can simply pull into the parking lot and look down into the crater without getting out. But if you don’t mind the heat, there are three different hiking trails to conquer. The easiest hike will lead to Little Hebe, while the other two hikes lead you around or into the Ubehebe Crater.

If you do decide to take a hike, please take water with you!

Experience the Unique Nitt Witt Ridge

There are quite a few unique attractions in California, but none of them are as eccentric as Nitt Witt Ridge. This structure is considered a California Registered Historical Landmark and is in Cambria. Arthur Harold Beal purchased the land back in 1928. He then spent fifty years creating what he called his castle. The terraces were carved using a pick and shovel. Some sections of the castle were created using materials taken from nearby Hearst Castle.

And then you have all the junk he collected to create the rest of the building. Beal thought nothing of using car parts, beer cans, old stoves, washer drums, and other tossed items to create what he considered his masterpiece.

If you think your family will love visiting this one-of-a-kind attraction, let me know! I can add it to your itinerary.

Hike to Lost Horse Mine at Joshua Tree National Park

Joshua Tree National Park is filled with fun family activities. However, sometimes it is best to go off the beaten path a little while on family vacations. Hiking to the Lost Horse Mine is something not everyone does while taking a vacation in California. The mine used to be a stamp mill, and it has been preserved over the years. When it was in operation, it was used to find approximately five million dollars worth of gold.

The hike is four miles round trip, so you will want to have everyone wear sturdy shoes. There is no shade on this trail, so water bottles, hats, and sunscreen are a must. The mine has been surrounded by a fence since people started to be destructive. But you can still see all the carefully preserved details.

Explore the Caves at Lava Beds National Monument

Not every family will want to head underground in California to explore caves. But if this sounds like a family adventure your kids will love, I say, “Add it to the itinerary!”. There are more than seven hundred caves within Lava Beds National Monument. Only twenty of them can be accessed by the public, though.

Inside the Visitor’s Center, you can check out the maps of each cave to see what you are getting into. I highly recommend beginning with Sunshine Cave and then working your way to the Indian Well Cave, Golden Dome Cave, or Sentinel Cave. Just make sure you have a headlamp or flashlight with you, so you can see once you are deep into the caves.

And if you don’t want to enter the caves, there are still plenty of family activities to do in this area. Your family can hike along any of the trails or check out Canby Cross, Captain Jacks Stronghold, and the lava fields.

Wander Around the USS Midway Aircraft Carrier Museum

The USS Midway was an aircraft carrier ship that was active from 1945 until she moored for the final time in her current location in 2004. Your family will love exploring the interior of this ship. You can see where the crew ate their meals, slept, and even spent their time in the sick bay.

Once you have seen the entire interior, while getting lost a time or two, it will be time to venture up to the flight deck. This is where multiple helicopters and planes are kept, as well as where the captain and admiral’s quarters are located. You will all love seeing the insides of the planes and helicopters. But it will be the flight simulators that will really bring a smile to your kids’ faces.

Visit with the Ghosts on the Queen Mary

The Queen Mary is a luxury passenger ship that was constructed early in the 20th century. This ship crossed the Atlantic just over one thousand times before mooring for the final time in Long Beach. There are different guided tours available on this ship. The most popular ones, though, are the Haunted Tours.

The ghosts don’t make an appearance during the day, but they are quite active at night. So, a nighttime tour is best if you want to see the ghost children around the pool, the engineer who died in the engine room, and the infamous Lady in White.

Gather a Little Glass at Glass Beach

Near Fort Bragg, you will find a unique beach called Glass Beach. Decades ago, this beach was where many people dumped their trash. On any given day, people would toss appliances and even cars over the cliffs. Instead of turning into an eyesore though, the ocean turned that trash into treasures.

The waves broke down the trash that remained and turned it into small pieces of smooth glass. People who visit this beach in California love that they can return home with an authentic souvenir. I recommend planning to spend a little extra time at this beach because your family will be able to spend hours trying to find the perfect piece of glass to take home with them.

Tour the Winchester Mansion

If your kids think you are crazy, you must take them on a tour of the Winchester Mansion. The owner of this home thought she would die if she ever stopped building her home. When you arrive at the mansion, you will stand there in awe of the size. And then, you will notice the fountains and gardens surrounding the mansion.

Inside, you will be greeted by mazes, as well as corridors, windows, and doors that lead absolutely nowhere. Use caution on the second floor because there is a door that opens directly to the outdoors, and no stairs in sight.

Get your kids counting when you are taking the tour because you will notice that the number thirteen pops up often. The owner loved the number thirteen. While the entire building is intriguing, the favorite space in the home is the Séance Room. So, keep an eye out for spirits during your visit.

Hike to the Hollywood Sign

It is a seven-mile round-trip hike to the Hollywood Sign. However, this family adventure is a rite of passage during any vacation in California. The trail is clearly marked, so you won’t need to worry about getting lost. Unfortunately, you can’t get as close to the sign as you would like. But the views of the sign and the surrounding area are still worth the trek in the California heat.

These are some of the amazing family adventures you can have during a vacation in California. There are so many other family activities for you to choose from, though. I can help you find the best ones for your next family vacation.

From the moment I landed in Anchorage, my vacation in Alaska has been amazing. My first few hours in Alaska were spent in Anchorage. I went directly from the airport to my hotel. It was nice to relax for a couple hours after my flight. I didn’t stay in my room for too long though, because I wanted to get out and explore a little. Alaska is quite different from where I live, and I wanted to soak it all in. I couldn’t stay out long though, because I needed to get some sleep before heading over to explore Denali National Park the following day.

Exploring Denali National Park During My Vacation in Alaska

Day One

My journey to Denali National Park began with me boarding the McKinley Explorer. The McKinley Explorer is a dome train. The upper-level dome in each railcar seats approximately 86 people. The glass dome windows are perfect for seeing 360-degree views of the gorgeous landscape in Alaska.

Once I found my seat, I sat back to listen to the tour guide in my railcar. The tour guide offered lots of information about what we were seeing out the windows.

I didn’t spend much time in the lower level of the dome railcar. But that is where the restrooms and restaurant are located. There is also an outdoor viewing platform, which is perfect for capturing photographs of the approaching mountains in Denali National Park.

We arrived at the park early in the day, so we had the entire afternoon to explore. There is so much to see and do inside Denali National Park. I didn’t want to venture too far on my first day, because I knew the next day would be filled with adventures.

Yet, I didn’t want to miss anything that this national park is known for. So, I wandered around, took pictures, and simply enjoyed my time in this part of the world.

When dinnertime arrived, it was time for me to head over to Denali Square to attend the Music of Denali Dinner Theater. As I ate, I was entertained with a performance that shared the story of the first men who summited Denali.

The food was incredible. And the actors and actresses were amazing during the show. I could have stayed forever but knew I needed sleep for the following day’s adventures of my vacation in Alaska.

Day Two

I was up bright and early on my second day in Denali National Park. The plan for the day was to go on a wilderness tour that would last between five and six hours. At the beginning of the tour, our guide warned us that each day brought something new and different to the tour. We might see extra wildlife or have an experience at a spot that most people don’t have.

Despite taking a vacation in Alaska before, I was excited to explore Denali National Park. I was quite happy that during our time driving along the road, I was able to see the park’s big five. The big five in Denali National Park includes Dall sheep, moose, bears, caribou, and wolves.

My favorite stop of the day was the Murie Science and Learning Center. This building is where they offer numerous field courses. I discovered that taking those courses were an excellent way to learn about the mountain and park, as well as the surrounding area.

I wish I had more time at the Murie Science and Learning Center. If you are interested in visiting, I can tell you that the courses are offered all year long. This building turns into the visitor’s center for the park during the winter months. You can take a course during the winter, or you can borrow a pair of snowshoes and head out into the wilderness.

As I’m sure you could understand, I was exhausted by the end of the tour. The excitement combined with everything I saw and did during the day made me want to crawl into the bed at the hotel and sleep for a week. I didn’t sleep for a week, but I did get a good night’s sleep. This was so I could head out on the next part of my journey during my vacation in Alaska the very next day.

You don’t need to be a travel advisor like myself to enjoy exploring Denali National Park during a vacation in Alaska.

So, are you ready to explore Denali National Park during your own vacation in Alaska?

If you said yes, I would like to invite you to schedule a planning session with me by clicking here. When you click on this link, you will be taken directly to my digital calendar to schedule a time that is convenient for you.

And if you are not quite ready to explore Denali National Park during a vacation in Alaska, you can sign up for my newsletter here. This will ensure you continue to receive all the exciting travel information I share.

One of the most underrated destinations in the US is the state of Idaho. And yet, with more than one hundred mountain ranges and millions of acres of wilderness, it is a destination that shouldn’t be missed. There are so many reasons why you should take a family vacation in Idaho. Instead of going through those reasons though, I am going to share a few of the most incredible family activities in Idaho. I think those activities will finally convince you that this is a must-visit state! Especially when we are celebrating National Idaho Day.

5 Family Friendly Activities to Do in Idaho for National Idaho Day

Hike to Mesa Falls

There is nothing better than taking a family hike to Mesa Falls during a vacation in Idaho. There are two Mesa Falls, lower and upper. So, don’t miss out on seeing them both during this family adventure!

You will find these waterfalls near Henrys Fork on Snake River. This is inside the Caribou-Targhee National Forest. There is a mile-long hike between these two waterfalls. But you do not need to hike the trail unless you want to.

Ride Bikes Along the Route of the Hiawatha

Let me begin by saying that the Route of the Hiawatha is fifteen miles long. Don’t panic though! It is mostly downhill, so the ride is much easier than you are thinking!

I highly recommend this bike ride when you are on a family vacation in Idaho. As you pedal along, you will find yourself riding through ten different tunnels. There are also seven trestle bridges that offer extraordinary views.

And yes, you can bike this route both ways. But the ride back will all be uphill. So, if that isn’t on your list of fun for the day, I suggest taking the shuttle bus back.

Go Paddleboarding or Kayaking on Lake Coeur d’Alene

Family vacations on the lake are incredible for making memories that last a lifetime. When in Idaho, I recommend you spend some time out on Lake Coeur d’Alene. This lake is perfect for paddleboarding or kayaking as a family.

When you are not in the water, you can take the short hike around Tubbs Hill. And once you are all tired out, you can board a boat for a sunset cruise around the lake.

Go Horseback Riding in the Sawtooth Wilderness

The Sawtooth Wilderness is filled with stunning lakes, lush pine forests, and gorgeous views. One of the best ways to experience this area of Idaho is from the back of a horse. I can arrange a horseback riding adventure for you, as I am planning your family vacation in Idaho.

Soak in the Hot Springs

There are quite a few hot springs in Idaho. So, why not soak in one during your family vacation?! Choose a hot spring near your hotel or travel to one further away that looks amazing. Then sit and relax in the warm water, as you stare out at the beauty this state has to offer.

These are the five best family friendly activities to do in Idaho. You can easily do them all to celebrate National Idaho Day during a family vacation.

So, are you ready to plan a family vacation in Idaho to do these five family activities?

If you said yes, I would like to invite you to schedule a planning session with me by clicking here. When you click on this link, you will be taken directly to my digital calendar to schedule a time that is convenient for you.

And if you are not ready to do these five family activities during a family vacation in Idaho just yet, you can easily sign up for my newsletter here. This will ensure you continue to receive all the travel information I share in the future.

The Pacific Northwest is known for being rainy and gray almost all year long. With the sun barely shining most days, most people wonder if the area is worthy of a visit. Well, for National Washington Day, or any other day of the year, I say that a visit to Washington State is a must! There are so many wonderful things happening in this state. Add in the natural beauty, proximity to the Pacific Ocean, and delectable cuisine, and you have an amazing family vacation opportunity.

5 Reasons to Visit Washington State on National Washington Day

Outdoor Family Adventures

The great outdoors will be waiting for you when you decide to visit Washington State. The mountains are an excellent place for hiking adventures. Unless it is winter and then they turn into a ski-lovers’ paradise. The coast is best for kayaking, paddleboarding, and fishing. Just don’t forget to take a whale watching tour during your family vacation in Washington State.

Multiple Cities to Explore

The state of Washington offers multiple cities for your family to explore. This means you can explore larger cities if you prefer or smaller cities without the massive crowds. I recommend starting out in Seattle. From there, your family adventures can continue in Spokane, Port Angeles, and Leavenworth.

Ability to Explore Nearby Islands

A vacation in Washington isn’t complete until you have taken the time to explore the nearby islands. A quick boat or ferry ride will have you on the island of your choice in no time at all. I recommend beginning with the larger islands. Those include San Juan Islands, Whidbey Island, and Vashon Island. Each one offers either a state park or nature preserve for hiking adventures.

Hike Multiple National Parks

Washington State has three national parks. It is one of the states with the most national parks. The national parks within Washington State include Mount Rainier, North Cascades, and Olympic. Your family could choose to simply hike a trail in one of the national parks in Washington State. However, then you would miss the beauty of the other two.

Dine On Seafood and Other Amazing Cuisine

You cannot vacation in Washington and not eat almost all day, and night, long! The seafood served at restaurants in this state is so fresh, thanks to the coast being right there. The freshest seafood can be purchased right at Pike Place Market. However, if you don’t feel like cooking it yourself, simply head to the nearest seafood restaurant. Most of the restaurants purchase their fresh seafood directly from the market.

And if you are not in the mood for seafood, the restaurants in Seattle will have other incredible local dishes for you to devour.

These are the five reasons you must visit Washington State for National Washington Day or any other day of the year. As a travel advisor, I can plan a family vacation in Washington State for you.

So, are you ready to embrace these five reasons and book a family vacation in Washington?

If you said yes, I would like to invite you to schedule a planning session with me by clicking here. When you click on this link, you will be taken directly to my digital calendar to schedule a time that is convenient for you.

And if you are not ready to plan a family vacation in Washington yet, you can sign up for my newsletter here. This way you will continue to receive all the travel information I share.
