A family vacation in Argentina can be fun when you choose to visit during the country’s winter months. Winter down in Argentina falls between the months of June and August. Basically, the summer months here in the United States. So, if you are craving some wintertime fun and adventures, a few destinations in Argentina will be the perfect option when escaping the heat. Today, I am going to share the best winter destinations in Argentina. One of them could be the perfect place for you to make memories with your family while away from home. The best part is you won’t be roasting from the heat while making those memories!

Best Winter Destinations in Argentina

Buenos Aires

Buenos Aires is considered the heart of Argentina. It is actually one of the destinations in Argentina that most families choose for their family trips. This city is full of history, gorgeous architecture, and delicious cuisine.

This is also the best place in Argentina to learn how to tango. If you don’t dance, you may at least want to attend the Tango World Championship. This dancing exhibition is held every year during the winter months.

Patagonia

Patagonia is considered by many as the end of the world. This region in Argentina is full of beautiful landscapes and scenic views. Your family can enjoy it all during car rides. Or you can choose to head out on a hike on one of the many trails in Patagonia

San Carlos de Bariloche

Best Winter Destinations in Argentina - Bariloche, Argentina

The locals call San Carlos de Bariloche simply Bariloche. This town is within part of the Patagonia region. You can easily combine the two areas during one family vacation. One of the best things you can do here is sip on hot chocolate, as you enjoy the scenery.

Esquel

You won’t want to spend much time in the small town of Esquel. However, it is an excellent place to take a train ride through. The Old Patagonian Express, or La Trochita, goes two hundred fifty miles between Esquel and Ingeniero Jacobacci.

It’s a wonderful way to see quite a bit of Argentina in a short amount of time.

El Calafate

It is really cold in El Calafate, Argentina. Instead of snow, this area fills up with ice. The nearby national park is an excellent place to go hiking amongst all the glaciers. The Perito Moreno Glacier is one of the most popular glaciers. It is one of the oldest glaciers in the world.

Linger at any of the glaciers in El Calafate and embrace the beauty, and stillness, that surrounds you.

Puerto Madryn

Puerto Madryn is on the Valdes Peninsula. This is one of the best places to go whale watching while in Argentina. Certain species of whales will be near Puerto Madryn between August and September.

Other whales will be in the area at other times of the year. So, if you can’t visit Argentina during their winter months, you may still have a chance to see whales up close. This is wonderful news if you prefer to visit destinations during the warmer months of the year.

Iguazu Falls

Best Winter Destinations in Argentina - Iguazu Falls in Argentina

Iguazu Falls are in the northern region in Argentina. The summer months are brutally hot in that region. Therefore, the winter months are best for exploring this waterfall and the surrounding area.

You may find yourself meeting members of the Guarani Tribe when you are near the falls. Those people have lived in the area for many years. They normally keep to themselves, so don’t be surprised if they don’t approach you during your visit.

Mendoza

Sipping wine in Argentina is possible when you spend your family vacation in Mendoza. This city is the wine capital of the country. It is also where the tallest mountain in South America can be found.

Spend your morning hiking part of the way to the summit of Aconcagua peak. Then sip wine at a vineyard in the afternoon. The best part about visiting the vineyards in winter is it is prime grape harvest season. So, your family can learn a lot while drinking new wines.

Tierra del Fuego

Hiking is the most popular family activity in Tierra del Fuego during the summer months. However, the winter months bring the excitement of skiing.

If you want to see wildlife while in this destination in Argentina, take a boat ride to Martillo Island. This island is located in the Beagle Channel. Gentoo and Magellanic penguins live on the island.

These are the best winter destinations in Argentina to visit during a family vacation. There are a lot of memories your family can make while going on one adventure after another. I can easily personalize a family vacation in Argentina for you, so you don’t miss out on anything your family wants to do.

Does your family love thrilling adventures? Do you all love to strap on hiking boots and get out in nature? Well, if you answered yes to both those questions, I have a few Patagonia hikes for your family vacation! Patagonia is known as a hiker’s dream destination. This area, between Chile and Argentina, is also known for its national parks and glistening glaciers. As you hike these challenging trails, you will be amazed at the unique landscapes you see. You may even finally realize why they call Patagonia, The End of the World. Choose an adventure on the hiking trails in Patagonia today and make those memories with your family you will never forget.

Patagonia Hikes for Your Family Vacation

Cerro Guanaco Trail

The Cerro Guanaco Trail is five miles long. It is a one-way hike that will take you from the Alakush Visitor Center to the top of the mountain. It normally takes people approximately eight hours to complete this hike.

Perito Moreno Ice Hike

One of the quicker and easier Patagonia hikes is the Perito Moreno Ice Hike. This hike is an excellent way to see the Perito Moreno Glacier. This hike may be six miles long, but it only takes approximately two and a half hours to complete. Maybe a little longer if you get caught up taking pictures.

Sierra Valdivieso Circuit

The Sierra Valdivieso Circuit is one of the longest hikes in Patagonia. This hike is thirty miles long. It is within the Ushuaian area. If you decide to tackle this hike with your family, you will be in the Andean mountains for a total of four days.

The long journey is worth it, though, with sights that include Valle Carbajal, Lago Fagnano, and Sierra Valdivieso.

Nahuel Huapi Traverse

If you don’t want a thirty-mile hike, you can always tackle the twenty-nine-mile hike of the Nahuel Huapi Traverse with your family! But this one will take you five days to complete. This hiking trail will take your family through the Nahuel Huapi National Park. Some of the most amazing landscapes within Patagonia can be found within this national park.

And if you don’t want to do this hike at all, and I won’t blame you if you don’t, you can do the driving option. Hop into a car and go along Ruta 40 from Esquel to Bariloche. You can still see the same incredible views.

Laguna Esmeralda Hike

Patagonia Hikes for Your Family Vacation - Laguna Esmeralda in Patagonia

A much more relaxing hike is the Laguna Esmeralda Hike in Patagonia. This six-mile hike takes you to the lagoon. Most people complete the hike in four hours. However, that is dependent on how many times you stop to check out the foliage and wildlife.

Martial Glacier

Another short five-mile hike will take you to Martial Glacier. You will find this hiking trail in the middle of an area known as the Land of Fire. It is a wonderful hike to take when you want views of the Beagle Channel and Ushuaia. This hike only takes about three hours. So that will leave you with plenty of time to do something else one day.

Mount Fitz Roy Base Day Hike

Mount Fitz Roy is one of the tallest peaks in Patagonia. This is why you may only make it to the base camp when you tackle this hike. Not too many people continue any further to Laguna de Los Tres or the Piedras Blancas Glacier.

The entire hike is twenty-six miles in total. This hike is very steep, and there is more climbing than hiking. Basically, you must be an avid hiker and outdoors person to tackle this adventure in Patagonia.

These are the Patagonia hikes you should consider on your next family vacation. There are many others, but these are the most popular ones. Most of them will require you to have a guide with you the entire time. I can arrange for you to take one of these guided hikes when I plan your family vacation in Patagonia.

So, are you ready to book a family vacation and take one of these Patagonia hikes?

A family vacation in Argentina can be filled with natural wonders like Iguazu Falls. You can spend days shopping at the unique boutiques in the big cities. You can even spend hours indulging in delicious cuisine and drinks. However, did you also know you can learn how to tango in Argentina?

Out of all the cultures in Argentina, the tango is the most popular. It is a passionate dance that is elegant and intimate. While there used only to be one style, there are now multiple styles you can learn.

Styles of Argentine Tango

  • Tango Canyengue
  • Tango Orillero
  • Salon Tango
  • Milonguero Style
  • Tango Nuevo
  • Tango Traditional
  • Tango Con Corte Y Quebrada
  • Tango de Fantasia
  • Show Tango

Learn How to Tango in Argentina

You can learn how to tango in many areas of Argentina. But it is still best to learn where the tango all began and that is in Buenos Aires. There are quite a few places to learn how to tango in Buenos Aires.

A couple of the tango-teaching hot spots in Buenos Aires include:

La Viruta

La Viruta is one of the most popular dance halls in Buenos Aires. You will find this dance studio over in Palermo Soho. You do not need to book a class in advance, so this can be an impromptu idea when you are on your family vacation in Argentina. The best part about La Viruta is they offer multiple class levels. That means you won’t get that deer in the headlights look by being in an advanced class. You can easily choose a class that is for extreme beginners.

Escuela Mariposita

Escuela Mariposita is a tango school that offers private classes. This is perfect if you do not want an audience or you want your entire family to learn together. You will find this school inside an old mansion over in San Telmo. After your tango lesson, you can explore the attached cultural center.

DNI Tango

DNI Tango is where most travelers like yourself end up when they are interested in learning how to tango in Argentina. This tango school offers classes for all levels. They also have their classes in multiple languages, so you will always understand what the instructor is saying. If your family is not sure about taking tango lessons, you can always sign up for one of the free introductory classes DNI Tango offers.

Where to Watch Tango in Argentina

If you are not ready to learn how to tango in Argentina, that’s okay! You can still learn quite a bit about this type of dance by watching it being performed.

A couple of the best places to watch tango performed in Argentina include:

Astor Piazzolla Theatre

One of the best tango performances is held at the Astor Piazzolla Theatre in Buenos Aires. It is a massive production that is precisely choreographed with difficult lifts and tricks. Competitive and professional dancers are up on the stage, so you know the show will be perfect each night. Performances are scheduled every evening, so it will be easy to fit one into your Argentinian vacation schedule.

The Faena Hotel

The Faena Hotel in Buenos Aires offers a more intimate experience for watching tango performances. The dancers perform to live musicians, as well as singers. You can simply watch this performance at the end of a busy day. However, I recommend getting tickets for the dinner and performance for the ultimate experience.

Café Tortoni

Most people think that Café Tortoni is an eatery. But you can watch beautiful tango performances there too. The performances are held in the Alfonsina Storni Room. While you can choose from a couple different types of performances, the most popular is Tango Sensations. That show is held Mondays through Fridays, twice a day. Prior to the show, you must wander through the Argentine Tango Museum. You will find that museum right above this café.

This is what you must know if you are interested in learning how to tango in Argentina. You can learn the different styles of tango and take a lesson or two to broaden your horizons. And if your family balks at that idea, no worries! We can simply reserve tickets so you can all watch a tango performance on your family vacation in Argentina.
