Planning a family vacation with older teenagers or twentysomethings? You’re not alone. Many families are planning multigenerational vacations with older kids. And let me tell you, it’s a whole different ballgame than traveling with little kids! These young adults crave independence, adventure, and maybe even a little Wi-Fi. The good news? Well, with the right approach, you can create a vacation that’s equal parts relaxing, engaging, and memorable for everyone. Today, I am sharing a few of my favorite travel tips for families with young adults. My goal is to help your family connect and actually enjoy each other’s company while on vacations you all love.

Travel Tips for Families with Young Adults: How to Plan a Vacation Everyone Will Enjoy

Travel Tips for Families with Young Adults: How to Plan a Vacation Everyone Will Enjoy

Start with Open Discussions

Begin the planning process by holding an open family meeting. Discuss potential destinations by considering everyone’s interests and bucket lists. This is the stage to brainstorm without restrictions or judgments. You might find surprising overlaps in interests or come up with a completely new travel idea that excites everyone.

Research Together

Assign research tasks according to each person’s interests. For example, one might look up adventure activities like scuba diving or mountain biking, while another might explore cultural sites or music festivals. This approach not only divides the workload but also ensures that each family member’s preferences are considered in the itinerary.

Utilize Technology

Leverage technology to make planning easier. Apps and websites like Pinterest, TripAdvisor, and Google Trips can help organize ideas and build a coherent plan. Creating a shared online document or a Pinterest board where everyone can pin ideas, itineraries, and accommodations can keep the process collaborative and transparent.

Vote on Major Decisions – Best Travel Tip for Families with Young Adults

When it comes to making major decisions like picking a destination or choosing between two major activities, take a democratic approach. Voting on options can help resolve differences fairly and ensures that everyone feels they have a say in the travel plans.

Assign Responsibilities

Travel Tips for Families with Young Adults: How to Plan a Vacation Everyone Will Enjoy

Once the destination is decided, assign responsibilities based on individual strengths or interests. Let someone manage booking accommodations while another handles activity reservations or meal plans. This not only lightens the load for the planner but helps empower young adults by trusting them with important aspects of the travel arrangements.

Respect Their Input

When older teenagers and twentysomethings feel their opinions are valued, they’re more likely to engage positively throughout the trip. Respecting their input and incorporating their suggestions can lead to discovering unique experiences that might not have been your first choice but turn out to be trip highlights.

Keep Communication Lines Open

As the trip approaches, continue to keep communication open. Circumstances can change; interests may shift. Regular check-ins ensure that the plan remains relevant and exciting for everyone involved. Plus, it helps build anticipation for the adventure ahead.

Be Ready to Compromise – A Must-Use Travel Tip for Families with Young Adults

Finally, be ready to compromise. Balancing everyone’s wishes can be challenging, but flexibility is key to a harmonious family vacation. Sometimes you might have to prioritize one person’s preference over another, but if the overall plan is balanced, everyone can have a great time.

Travel isn’t just about getting from one place to another—it’s a journey through time, culture, and human ingenuity. Over the centuries, people have crossed oceans, blazed trails, and built connections that changed the world. From ancient trade routes to the first luxury cruises, the history of travel is filled with incredible stories and surprising milestones.

Ready to take a trip through the past? Let’s uncover some of the most fascinating moments that shaped the way we explore today!

Here are some fascinating historical facts about traveling:

1. The World’s First Tourist

Ancient Egyptians were some of the earliest tourists. Wealthy Egyptians traveled to visit pyramids and temples as early as 1500 BCE. They left graffiti on monuments, similar to modern tourists.

2. Silk Road: The Ancient Trade Route

The Silk Road, established during the Han Dynasty (207 BCE–220 CE), was one of the first international travel routes. It connected Asia, Europe, and Africa, facilitating not only trade but also cultural exchange.

3. The Grand Tour of Europe

In the 17th and 18th centuries, wealthy European young men undertook “The Grand Tour” to learn about classical art, architecture, and the Renaissance. It was considered an essential part of their education.

4. Marco Polo: The Adventurer

In the 13th century, Marco Polo traveled from Venice to China along the Silk Road. His travelogue inspired generations of explorers, including Christopher Columbus.

5. The First Travel Agency

Thomas Cook established the first travel agency in 1841. He organized group tours, including package holidays and excursions by train, paving the way for modern tourism.

6. Air Travel Revolution

The first commercial flight took place in 1914 between St. Petersburg and Tampa, Florida. It was a 23-minute journey, marking the beginning of modern air travel.

7. The Evolution of Passports

Passports have been around for centuries. King Henry V of England issued the first official travel documents in the 15th century to allow safe passage through foreign lands.

8. Hitchhiking in the Middle Ages

In medieval Europe, pilgrims often traveled long distances on foot, relying on the hospitality of strangers for food and lodging—a precursor to modern-day hitchhiking and backpacking culture.

9. The Orient Express

This luxury train, launched in 1883, connected Paris to Istanbul and became synonymous with elegance and adventure, inspiring Agatha Christie’s famous novel Murder on the Orient Express.

10. The Invention of Hotels

The concept of hotels dates back to ancient times. Roman mansions and monasteries provided accommodations for travelers. The first modern hotel, Tremont House, opened in Boston in 1829 with private rooms and indoor plumbing.

11. Tourism During the Renaissance

The Renaissance era saw the rise of pilgrimage tourism, with people traveling to visit religious sites across Europe, such as Santiago de Compostela in Spain.

12. First Cruise Ship

The first leisure cruise ship, Prinzessin Victoria Luise, was launched in 1900 by the Hamburg-America Line. It catered to the wealthy elite looking for luxury sea travel.

13. The Golden Age of Train Travel

The 19th century saw the rise of railways, transforming travel across continents. Iconic routes like the Trans-Siberian Railway and the Canadian Pacific Railway opened up vast territories.

14. World’s Oldest Travel Guide

The oldest known travel guide is the Periplus of the Erythraean Sea, written in the 1st century CE. It describes navigation routes and trading opportunities around the Red Sea and Indian Ocean.

15. The Moon: A New Destination

The Apollo 11 mission in 1969 marked humanity’s ultimate travel milestone—venturing to the Moon, making it the farthest journey humans have ever taken.

These historical tidbits highlight how travel has evolved from a necessity to a leisure pursuit, shaping cultures and civilizations along the way.

Are you searching for one of the best family travel destinations for your next trip? Canada is an amazing country. And you can visit there during the spring, summer, fall, and winter. However, some of the best memories you will make will occur during the winter months in Canada. This is when you can take advantage of the plethora of Canada’s top winter adventures and destinations. Today, I am going to share some of these winter adventures with you. At least one of them should have you ready to plan a family travel itinerary in Canada.

Canada’s Top Winter Adventures and Destinations

Seeing Polar Bears is the Top Winter Adventure in Canada

Coca Cola has created a marketing genius out of the frosty white polar bears. They are found in the colder climates of the North. You will find polar bears in Canada, Russia, Greenland and Norway mostly. A few can even be found in Alaska.

While they appear white in color, it’s actually a reflection of their surroundings. Polar bear fur is actually more translucent, allowing them to blend in better. Polar bears, when all four paws are on the ground stand about 3.5 to 5 feet tall. However, if you ever meet one while it’s standing up on its back legs – look out. That polar bear can stand as high as 10 feet or taller.

Not quite as cozy and cuddly as Coca Cola makes them appear. In fact, they are one of the deadliest bears in the world.

If your children have got you curious about Polar Bears, or you’re looking for an adventure in the North, then you won’t want to miss out. Churchill Manitoba is Canada’s favorite place for this winter adventure. Plus, it is a great place to explore the open tundra from the back of a Tundra buggy. Head out on a ride in search of these majestic animals.

You will see them splashing in the water. Walking across the icy landscape. Or fishing for lunch. It is amazing to witness these spectacular creatures up close, in the wild. Free to roam in nature.

Experience the Northern Lights

"</p

Looking for another wonder to explore? How about the Northern lights? These dancing lights are considered Canada’s top winter adventure!

When I first heard about these, I had to ask if they truly were real. A friend of mine who lives in Canada has described them to me. And while my last visit to Canada failed to produce a viewing (I was a few weeks too early), she shared photos and stories.

Most often you will see shades of greens and yellows to white lights dancing across the skies. However, on the truly vibrant nights, you will even see blues, pinks, purples and reds.

The lights can dance slowly where you need to watch closely to see them move all the way through. Or they can dance with such intensity that they snap and crack like a flag in the wind.

She tells me there is nothing like parking on an old country road, in the quiet of the countryside, and listen to the northern lights dancing. You can actually hear the snap and crack. The lights can even fill the whole sky from one horizon to the next, or just a short window to the side.

Either way it is right up at the top of my bucket list during my next family vacation in Canada!

The Northwest Territories

Canada's Top Winter Adventures and Destinations - Sled Dogs

I recently discovered the most amazing trip in Northern Canada is the Northwest Territories. You can take a dog sled ride out to the middle of nowhere to watch the northern lights in the wide-open sky. Not to worry – they have warm layers to keep you toasty warm.

Everyone wants to know what causes Northern Lights. The real answer is, when gaseous particles in the atmosphere collide, their atoms react creating a spectacular light show. I like to think that it is just an amazing magic show the universe creates just for us.

Don’t worry, you can see this winter adventure in Canada anywhere you visit. So, don’t think you need to stick to the northwest regions of the country.

The Canadian Rockies

Years ago, my family took a trip to the Rocky Mountains. My family and I made our way to Alberta to explore the Canadian Rockies. We spent time in Lake Louise, Banff and Jasper.

The crystal-clear water of Lake Louise had been calling my name for years. I’m so excited I finally got to see it up close and in person.

Hiking, exploring glaciers, watching for animals and so much more, was all on the agenda for our family. While this vacation was filled with lots of activity and adventure for us, the Canadian Rockies is also a great destination for a couple’s escape.

Imagine cozying up in front of a crackling fireplace while the snow gently and softly falls outside. This is one of Canada’s winter adventures I can easily do. Plus, I’m pretty sure this is where the heart of every Hallmark movie is dreamt up.

Spend your mornings out in the crisp fresh air hiking. Then take a gondola ride up the mountain for the afternoon.  Spend the evening cuddled up by the fire. Talk about an escape to reconnect with the one you love the most.

Check out these amazing activities in the Rocky Mountains during the winter.

Canadian Culture

Want to experience some Canadian Culture? Then you will want to explore the events that this region has become famous for.

Grab your best western duds and favorite cowpoke for the Calgary Stampede. Get ready to witness the most spectacular coastline fireworks show at Vancouvers’ Celebration of Lights.

You definitely won’t want to miss the star-studded TIFF (Toronto International Film Festival). Toronto is also home to the biggest and best Caribbean Festival of Canada.

Montreal is home to Just for Laughs. A 10-day long comedy festival featuring some of the best up and comers alongside the most seasoned comedians. Then there is the Montreal Jazz Festival.

In the winter you can check out the Quebec Winter Carnival or the Winterlude in Ottawa. Winterlude even includes skating along the Rideau Canal. This creates the world’s longest skating rink. These are two of the best adventures to have during the winter in Canada.

For the truly brave, you may even want to consider the annual polar bear plunge. This is where brave (I have a different word, but I’ll stick with brave) Canadians and tourists alike, cut a hole into the ice, and plunge into the frigid waters in the middle of winter. They do this while only wearing a bathing suit. They say it’s absolutely invigorating, but it certainly isn’t for everyone. You’ll find Canadians doing this on New Years Day mostly and for many it’s tied to a charity event.

A polar plunge may not be the Canada winter adventure you are looking for. However, you must admit, it will get your heart racing!

Check out these other winter events around the world!

You may have noticed in recent weeks that I have written about stunning European castles. And while you may love to visit one of those, you may decide to stay in the US for your next family vacation. If that is the case, I have fabulous news! You can easily see a castle right here in the US. There are plenty of American castles scattered throughout the entire country. Today, I am going to share a few American castles to add to your family vacation list. I recommend checking out a few fairy tale castles your family can visit once you see all of these.

American Castles to Add to Your Family Vacation List

Biltmore Estate in Asheville, North Carolina

Okay, so you probably knew Biltmore Castle would be at the top of this list. It is one of the well-known American castles. This castle is also the largest home in the US. George Vanderbilt had this castle constructed back in 1895. He drew inspiration from the chateaus he saw in France.

In 1963, this American castle was added to the National Historic Landmark registry. During your visit, stop at the Inn, as well as the Biltmore Estate Wine Company.

Joslyn Castle in Omaha, Nebraska

Joslyn Castle is a Scottish Baronial-style mansion. This castle has been preserved, so it looks just like it did when it was completed in 1903. Take the time to explore some of the thirty-five rooms. Don’t forget to pay attention to the small turrets and crenellations.

Loveland Castle in Loveland, Ohio

One of the medieval American castles is Loveland Castle. The architecture of this castle is a mix of English, French, and German. This castle even has a dry moat. You can only take a self-guided tour of this castle. Take your time so you don’t miss the weapons and ghost themes along the way.

Gillette Castle in East Haddam, Connecticut

American Castles - Gillette Castle in CT

From the outside, Gillette Castle looks like it comes from medieval times. However, one step inside and you are greeted by all the comforts of home. There are built-in couches, wooden carvings, and even a bar that locks in a unique way.

Tours are only available from the end of May through the middle of fall. Special holiday tours and events occur between Thanksgiving and Christmas. Therefore, you must plan your family vacation carefully or you will miss out on this castle adventure.

The Kentucky Castle in Versailles, Kentucky

The Kentucky Castle only dates back to 1969. However, it’s short time is filled with quite a history. Part of that history is fire and construction issues. Nowadays, this castle serves as a boutique hotel. Basically, you can check off two travel bucket list items if you decide to stay at the Kentucky Castle during your family vacation.

Fonthill Castle in Doylestown, Pennsylvania

Fonthill Castle can be found right in the middle of Bucks County in Pennsylvania. It was constructed by Chapman Mercer, who was an anthropologist, archaeologist, and ceramicist. This American castle now serves as a museum.

1892 Bishop’s Palace in Galveston, Texas

This American castle has all the required royal necessities. During a self-guided tour, you will see stained glass windows, bronze sculptures, and a silver-lined fireplace. This is considered one of the most important buildings in the US. So, pay attention as you are wandering around.

Iolani Palace in Honolulu, Hawaii

This castle in Hawaii has quite a history. When this castle was constructed in 1882, it was used as the royal palace. Then it was government offices before being preserved as a multicultural epicenter of Hawaii. There are quite a few tours you can choose from when you visit this American castle. I recommend a guided tour so you don’t miss any of the histories.

Boldt Castle in Alexandria Bay, New York

George C Boldt chose to build this castle on Heart Island for his wife. Unfortunately, his wife passed away long before the castle was finished. Boldt Castle sat abandoned for years until the Thousand Island Bridge Authority started to rehabilitate the island and the castle.

You can only reach this American castle by ferry or boat. As you wander around inside, you will see the sections that were fully completed, as well as those that still sit unfinished. If you have extra time, head over to the Yacht House.

These are the best American castles to add to your family vacation list. There are many other castles in the US. You can honestly choose to see any of them for your next family vacation.

So, are you ready to book a family vacation and visit one of these American castles?

I know the snow is still kind of swirling out there, and spring is barely around the corner. However, now is the perfect time to start planning your fall family vacation. Not everything is booked solid yet. Therefore, you have more choices available to you. And that means you can easily take a family vacation everyone will love. Today, I am going to share my favorite fall family vacation destinations.

Fall Family Vacations to Plan Now

Coastal Maine

Maine’s coastline can get quite crowded during the summer months. The crowds die down, though, in the fall, making it the perfect time to visit. The fall foliage is perfect. Especially late September or early October.

Your days can be spent strolling through the Old Port historic district. Or you can take family photos at the Portland Head Lighthouse. Don’t forget a side trip to the LL Bean store to grab a picture of the infamous boot.

Oh, and if your family loves festivals, Maine has the perfect one in October. Harvest on the Harbor is a weekend-long festival. All types of seafood are available, as well as craft spirits and Bloody Marys.

Tokyo, Japan

The temperatures are mild in Japan during the fall months. The best part is the rainy season has also ended. Action is everywhere in Tokyo. Your kids will love driving go-karts through the downtown streets. Weaving in and out of traffic is optional.

Grabbing a snack in Tokyo isn’t as mundane as it is at home. In this city, you can find almost any item you need in a vending machine. Ready to eat ramen is a top vending machine seller. So are umbrellas, burgers, and clothing.

If you want to escape the hustle and bustle of the city while on a fall family vacation, I recommend Mount Fuji. It’s relaxing and I can plan an itinerary your entire family will love.

New England Road Trip

The kids will be closer than ever when you decide to take a New England road trip. Especially crammed into the backseat of the car with their electronics.

You can drive through Vermont, New Hampshire, Maine, Massachusetts, or Connecticut. Every state has a route that will be more breathtaking than the last.

I vote for the Park Loop Road in Acadia National Park. This twenty-seven-mile road offers views of the mountains, ponds, and even the fall foliage.  Learn how to plan for a vacation in Maine with my travel guide

Yosemite National Park

It would be terrible to leave Yosemite National Park off the list of best fall vacation destinations. Despite the fact, this destination is perfect to see at any time of the year. Fall is considered the shoulder season for Yosemite. Few people wander around enjoying the views and seasonable weather.

Spend your days checking out the waterfalls. Walking amongst the giant sequoias. And hiking the trails while keeping an eye out for wildlife. If your family wants more thrills, then a rock-climbing adventure might be the best activity for your vacation.

Munich, Germany

Oktoberfest in Munich, Germany

Munich can be the perfect fall destination if you love being around thousands of people. Especially during the time when Oktoberfest is taking place. The dates change for this festival every year. However, it normally begins towards the end of September and ends at the beginning of October.

Oktoberfest is full of beer, for sure. However, you will also find live music, games, and amusement rides.

This is the official Oktoberfest. It has been taking place for more than two hundred years. You can find other Oktoberfest festivals to attend throughout the world. So, if Munich doesn’t interest you, let me know, and I will find a destination your family wants to visit.

Albuquerque, New Mexico

The month of October is the best time to visit this fall vacation destination. The reason for this is that is when the International Balloon Fiesta takes place. This hot air balloon festival is nine days long. Each day is packed with fun activities for families like yours.

Your family can even take a hot air balloon ride if we plan far enough in advance.

In the city of Santa Fe, you will discover a half mile of things to do on a street called Canyon Road. In this one seemingly small area, you will find hundreds of restaurants, galleries, and boutiques. It shouldn’t be surprising that you must walk up and down this road dozens of times during your visit so you do not miss anything that piques your interest.

3 Must-Do Activities When Wandering Down Canyon Road

Explore Different Types of Artwork

There are more than eighty galleries, as well as studios, on this stretch of Canyon Road. You will manage to see everything from modern and abstract art to traditional, Native American, and western art. A couple of the best places to add to your itinerary include A Sea in the Desert Gallery, Canyon Road Contemporary, In Art Santa Fe, and Mark White Fine Art.

Dine on Delectable Cuisine

There are only a few restaurants on Canyon Road, but each one serves some of the best foods you will eat in Santa Fe. If you are simply looking for a cup of coffee or tea, then The Teahouse or Café de Artistes will be your best option. If you are searching for something more, then Geronimo or The Compound will have the exact items you are craving.

Go Shopping

Everyone seems to love shopping at least a little when they are on vacation. While there are many big box stores in Santa Fe, you will prefer the intimate qualities of the boutiques along Canyon Road. Each boutique offers one-of-a-kind creations, whether they are clothing items or jewelry. There are eighteen boutiques in all, and I recommend stopping in each of them. However, if your time is limited, you may want to consider at least checking out Bittersweet Designs, Homefrocks, and Rockaway Opals.

Special Events Held on Canyon Road

There are many special events held on Canyon Road throughout the year. You may want to plan your visit, so you can be in Santa Fe when your favorite event is taking place. The special events you will want to attend include:

  • Spring Art Festival
  • Canyon Road Art and Wine Stroll
  • Historic Canyon Road Paint and Sculpt Out
  • Holiday Block-to-Block Party
  • Christmas Eve Farolito Walk

As you can see, you must plan to spend an entire day on Canyon Road. Between all the shopping, dining, and art adventures available, you can talk to the owners of the businesses and the locals that stop in. I would love to help you plan a Santa Fe adventure that includes as much time as you need on Canyon Road. Let’s create your perfect southwest family vacation together today!

If you have read any of my blog posts, or seen my social media posts, over the years, you may remember that I served in the Air Force. It was one of my careers prior to becoming a travel advisor. In fact, the travel I did throughout my Air Force career is what I believe led me in the direction of becoming a travel advisor. The Air Force was a huge part of my life. And that is why we should all celebrate since it is the Air Force’s birthday!

History of the Air Force

The Air Force wasn’t always a separate military service. Instead, it was part of many different organizations until it became the Air Force we know today. Those organizations included:

  • Aeronautical Division, Signal Corps from August 1, 1907, until July 18, 1914
  • Aviation Section, Signal Corps from July 18, 1914, until May 20, 1918
  • Division of Military Aeronautics from May 20, 1918, until May 24, 1918
  • Air Service, US Army from May 24, 1918, until July 2, 1926
  • US Army Air Corps from July 2, 1926, until June 20, 1941
  • US Army Air Forces from June 20, 1941, until September 17, 1947

Yes, this division of the military finally became the Air Force on September 18, 1947! So, let’s celebrate the Air Force’s birthday!

What is the Air Force’s Focus?

As you probably already know, the Air Force is the youngest of all five military services. Yet, they play a huge role within all five branches of the military.

The Air Force focuses on aerospace superiority, information superiority, and global attack. They tackle all this through control and exploitation of air and space. While quite a few people in the Air Force are focused on flying missions, there are many others that work on the ground. Those people focus on support and technical issues.

Famous People Who Served in the Air Force

A few famous people served in the Air Force. Although, they shouldn’t overshadow everyone who has served in any branch of the military.

A few of the more notable Air Force members include:

  • Chuck Norris
  • Ronald Reagan
  • Clark Gable
  • Johnny Cash
  • Morgan Freeman
  • Charlton Heston
  • Willie Nelson

I am proud to say that I served in the Air Force. I met my husband while serving. And now, one of my daughters is serving in the Air Force. So, you can say we are an Air Force family. And a military family, since one of my sons is serving in the Marines.

Let’s celebrate the Air Force’s birthday together today and remember everyone who has served within all the different organizations over the years.

Aim High!

Traveling the world is a wonderful experience. Especially when you are over in Europe. You can choose to fly to Europe and explore a single city. Or you can drive from one destination to another. My favorite way to explore Europe is by river cruise. During a European river cruise, your accommodations never change. And yet, you see numerous destinations throughout the duration of your trip. Today I am sharing what you must know you for your first European river cruise. This information will allow you to enjoy it even more than you thought possible. As a travel advisor, I can plan your river cruise for you and share even more information with you during the planning process.

What You Must Know for Your First European River Cruise

Choosing the Best River Cruise for You

Most river cruise ships look the same. The reason for this is the ships need to be a specific size to fit down the rivers. So, don’t think you can choose your European river cruise according to what facilities are on a ship.

Instead, you are choosing your river cruise according to the style of travel the actual cruise offers. Some river cruise lines offer luxurious experiences, while others offer basic travel with fewer perks. I don’t know about you, but when I am on vacation, it is all about luxury and being pampered!

Remember the Distance is Shorter than Ocean Cruises

When you take a cruise down in the Caribbean, you are covering a large area over a short amount of time. During a European river cruise, you may only see a few destinations within a country in the same amount of time.

River Cruises Offer More Experiences

During a river cruise, you are going to have so many things to do each day you are in port. The downside to this is you won’t have the choices you would if you were taking an ocean cruise. Instead, you may only get to decide between two or three itineraries for the day.

Consider the Destinations

Another thing you must keep in mind when choosing your European river cruise is the destinations. If you do not want to spend time in France, but the river cruise you are considering spends a lot of time there, it is not the cruise for you. I recommend determining which destinations you want to see the most. Then look for European river cruises that focus on those areas.

Water Levels Can Create Changes

During a European river cruise, the ship depends on the water levels of the rivers to be at a certain level. If the water levels drop, or even rise, your itinerary may be changed at the last minute. Don’t worry, the crew always has back up plans whenever possible. So, you won’t be stuck in the middle of a river doing nothing.

Choose Your Cruising Season Carefully

Over in Europe, the river cruising season goes from the end of March until the beginning of October. However, there are some European river cruises during the month of December. Those river cruises focus on the local Christmas Markets.

If you are looking for fewer people on the ships, I recommend going early or later in the season. My favorite time of year to go though is during the holidays. Yes, you will need to deal with crowds wherever you go. But the experience, and holiday vibe, is worthwhile.

These are a few of the things you must know for your very first European river cruise. I can’t wait to share even more information with you during the planning process.

Denali National Park is home to Denali, which has also been called Mount McKinley in the past. This massive area is home to more than the mountain though. A visit here will have you seeing a plethora of wildlife and extraordinary sights while tackling unique adventures. Read on to discover the must see’s and do’s of Denali National Park

6 Things You Must See and Do at Denali National Park

Moose in Denali National Park

Appreciate the Views from the Stony Hill Overlook

The Stony Hill Overlook is located at mile sixty-two of the Tundra Wilderness Tour and it is a must-see in my opinion. This overlook is at the edge of the mountain pass and it offers incredible views of Denali. You can even see Denali in its entirety, from base to summit, which is why this is such a popular destination for picture taking.

Watch a Sled Dog Demonstration

There are many different kennels inside Denali National Park, and it is easy to reach many of them to see the sled dog demonstrations. The summer months are when there are a multitude of puppies, so if you want to see the cuteness and watch them learning in the beginning, this is the time to go.

Go White Water Rafting on the Nenana River

This river offers some amazing rapids, but you can choose a calmer route if you do not want too much excitement during your adventure. These trips will have you out on the water for two hours, so you will have plenty of time to embrace your surroundings.

Check Out the Local Wildlife

There are so many animals living in Denali National Park, but there are five that you must see when you are there. Those five animals are wolves, grizzly bears, moose, Dall sheep, and caribou. While you should see these as you are exploring, don’t forget to keep an eye out for the collared pika, red fox, golden eagles, and other animals that call this park home.

Grab Some Photos at the Reflection Pond

The best time to visit Reflection Pond is early in the morning, due to the sun rising in the sky. This is when the reflection of Denali will show up the best on the surface of the water. If you do arrive later in the day, you can still get a great picture, but you may find that the clouds create a slight problem.

Get Captured in an Old-Time Alaskan Photo Shoot

Over at the Old Sourdough Studio, you can have your picture taken during an old-time Alaskan photo shoot. You can wear authentic Alaskan clothes and choose the theme that you love the most. This is definitely a unique way to experience this part of the country!

These are the six things you must see and do at Denali National Park. Do any of them sound like something your family will love? Let me know which options you have fallen in love with already and we can then create the perfect Alaskan itinerary for your next Alaska family vacation!

So, are you ready to have me create a personalized family vacation itinerary in Alaska or another destination?
