Learning how to manage family travel logistics can be a tough task. Especially when loved ones are scattered across different locations. However, with careful planning and strategic approaches, it’s possible to overcome these hurdles and bring scattered families together for memorable reunions. Today, I am sharing a few tips for planning a vacation with relatives in different locations. It is something I am quite familiar with now that most of my kids are scattered throughout the US. And yet, we still take family vacations together throughout the year.

How to Manage Family Travel Logistics: Tips for Planning a Vacation with Relatives in Different Locations

How to Manage Family Travel Logistics: Tips for Planning a Vacation with Relatives in Different Locations

Start Planning Early – A Must for Conquering Family Travel Logistics

Get a head start to coordinate schedules, secure accommodations, and make necessary arrangements. It isn’t uncommon to start planning multigenerational trips two years in advance.

Utilize Polls for Dates

Simplify date selection using tools like Doodle Polls or Google Forms, ensuring maximum participation.

Establish a Central Communication Hub to Conquer Family Travel Logistics

Use platforms such as WhatsApp or Facebook groups to keep all trip-related communications in one place. This reduces the risk of miscommunication.

Choose Accessible Locations

Opt for destinations that are easy for everyone to reach. Also, consider factors like airports and drive times for each family member.

Delegate Tasks

Assign different planning tasks to family members to involve everyone. Spread out responsibilities or hire an expert travel advisor like myself to take care of all the heavy lifting. If it is one thing I excel at, it is taking care of all the small details when it comes to family travel logistics.

Family fun getaways for multigenerational travelers.

Flexible Itineraries

Create plans that allow people to participate as they arrive and leave. This promotes inclusivity and reduces pressure that everyone needs to be there for the same length of time.

Consider these multigenerational vacation ideas for your next family trip.

Utilize Shared Itinerary Apps

Take advantage of apps like TripIt to keep track of everyone’s travel plans and activities. This ensures everyone stays informed and organized.

Learning how to manage family travel logistics can be challenging when planning multigenerational vacations. However, effective planning and strategic utilization of tools and platforms can help streamline the process. By starting early, leveraging technology for communication and itinerary management, and adopting flexible approaches, families can ensure that everyone can participate in creating cherished memories together. Although, it would be easier to enlist the help of an expert travel advisor to take care of all the details. This would ensure nothing was missed during the entire planning process.

Crisp air, cozy sweaters, and a kaleidoscope of colors. That’s what’s waiting for you during a scenic fall family getaway. If you’re searching for the best places to see fall foliage, you’ve come to the right website. Across the country, there are stunning fall foliage destinations where families can bond over nature walks, hayrides, and hot cider. You will find yourselves surrounded by red and gold leaves throughout all these activities. Today, I am sharing fall travel ideas that are packed with adventure, relaxation, and Instagram-worthy moments. Get ready to explore the best fall getaways, so you can decide how you want to create lasting memories with your family.

Best Places to See Fall Foliage for Family Leaf Peeping Adventures

Stowe, Vermont – One of the Best Places to See Fall Foliage

Best Places to See Fall Foliage for Family Leaf Peeping Adventures - Fall Foliage in Stowe, Vermont

One of the best places to see fall foliage is Stowe, Vermont. In fact, this picturesque mountain town is known as the “Fall’s Color Capital”. Between the color of the leaves, and the vibe of feeling like you are walking through a storybook, you may not want to leave this fall foliage travel destination.

I recommend driving along scenic Route 100. This route is also known as Vermont’s Main Street. You will discover plenty of places to stop for family photos and fun.

I recommend visiting a working maple farm to learn how maple syrup is made. Most farms will give you free samples to try. Taste all you want and then make a purchase or two, so you can relive your maple farm memories long after you return home from your family vacation.

Spectacular panoramic views of the fall foliage can be seen during a gondola ride up Mt. Mansfield.

Oh, and if your family wants a few souvenirs, check out downtown Stowe. This charming area is packed with family-owned shops and cafes. The cafes are perfect for when you need a bite to eat. And the shops will have everything you need to remember this family vacation.

Check out these fall family vacations to plan now.

Blue Ridge Parkway, North Carolina and Virginia

The Blue Ridge Parkway is 469 miles long. It weaves through the states of North Carolina and Virginia. Since the elevation along this stretch of road is so diverse, there is usually an extended leaf-peeping season.

During your drive, stop at the overlooks to enjoy a picnic with a view. There are plenty of hiking trails along this parkway. Humpback Rocks is a short trail that is quite family friendly.

Of course, your fall foliage family vacation won’t be complete if you don’t stop to pick apples at a local orchard. The Folk Art Center is another place to visit if you are interested in regional crafts.

The Berkshires, Massachusetts – One of the Best Charming Places to See Fall Foliage

The Berkshires is another one of the best places to see fall foliage. Your fall foliage family vacation will be packed with family friendly outdoor recreation throughout the small artsy towns in the region.

I recommend riding the Hoosic Valley Train to see the vibrant fall scenery up close. Interactive farm experiences are available at Hancock Shaker Village. And you won’t be disappointed with a hike along the trails at the Mount Greylock State Reservation.

There are usually plenty of harvest festivals and farmers markets to visit during the fall in the Berkshires. Add a couple to your list, so you don’t miss out on the best cider donuts in the state.

Door County, Wisconsin

Not too many people think of Wisconsin when they are considering the best places to see fall foliage for their family vacation. And yet, Door County offers everything you would want during fall foliage season and so much more.

A scenic ferry ride to Washington Island is a must during the fall in Wisconsin. The views of the colorful trees from the water are fabulous.

Over in Peninsula State Park, you will want to hike the trails or ride a bike. You will cover more ground by biking. However, slowing down while hiking offers you more of a chance to really take in the beauty of the region.

Apple picking is popular in Door County during the fall foliage season. However, go out and pick cherries too. This unique activity will really get your family to talk about how different fall is in Wisconsin.

Great Smoky Mountains National Park, Tennessee and North Carolina

Best Places to See Fall Foliage for Family Leaf Peeping Adventures - Great Smoky Mountains in Fall

The Great Smoky Mountains National Park is another one of the best places to see fall foliage in two different states. While you can spend your time in one state, I guarantee you will love the option of visiting both states during your family vacation.

Stunning views of the colorful trees can be seen while driving along Newfound Gap Road or Cades Cove Loop.

While visiting the park, head into the ranger station. The rangers are always leading family nature programs. These programs are an excellent way to learn more about the area you are vacationing in.

Over in Gatlinburg or Pigeon Forge, you will find plenty of activities to keep your family busy during vacation. Dollywood, aquariums, and mini golf courses are only a couple of the options available to you in those areas.

Check out these other national parks to visit with multiple generations of your family this year.

Aspen, Colorado

Aspen is usually a ski-lovers dream destination. However, it is one of the best fall foliage travel destinations.

Jaw dropping vistas can be seen from the Silver Queen Gondola ride. A hike along the Maroon Bells Scenic Trail will keep your family moving. This hiking trail in Aspen is perfect for all ages. Therefore, no one will need to be left out of this activity during your family vacation.

Nearby Snowmass Village hosts all kinds of fall festivals. And you will discover a pumpkin patch or two that you can visit while you are on a family vacation in Aspen.

Adirondack Mountains, New York

A couple hundred miles is what separates New York City from the fabulous Adirondack Mountains in New York State. The Adirondacks offer six million acres of lakes, mountains, and forests for you to explore as a family.

This amazing fall foliage travel destination is perfect for your family if you want to spend most of your time outside.

A canoe trip on Lake Placid or Mirror Lake is a must during the fall in the Adirondacks. Seeing the colorful leaves from the water offers a unique leaf-peeping experience.

The boardwalk trails are easy to maneuver at High Falls Gorge. Those boardwalks will take you to the numerous waterfalls in the area.

Downtime is available while riding the Cloudspitter Gondola at Whiteface Mountain. And you won’t know what to do first when you arrive at the Wild Center. This outdoor attraction has quite a few interactive nature exhibits, as well as a treetop Wild Walk.

Leavenworth, Washington

Best Places to See Fall Foliage for Family Leaf Peeping Adventures - Leavenworth Washington in Fall

Leavenworth is a Bavarian-style village in the state of Washington. This is one of the best fall getaways you can choose for your next family vacation.

Hiking along the Waterfront Park Trail is a must. This trail will take you along the Wenatchee River, where you can see the changing leaves on the trees.

A horse-drawn carriage ride through the village will have your family relaxing while learning more about the area. And you won’t want to skip attending the Autumn Leaf Festival.

Laurentian Mountains in Quebec, Canada

You don’t need to stay in the United States to visit one of the best places to see fall foliage with your family. Just a short drive from Montreal is the Laurentian Mountains. The trees within this mountain range explode with color during the months of September and October.

A ride on the gondola at Mont-Tremblant will allow your family to see panoramic views of the crimson maples and golden birch trees.

There are plenty of hiking trails to choose from within the Laurentian Mountains. The amount of fall foliage you will see during your hikes as a family will amaze you. So, don’t skip out on this incredible activity.

Black Forest, Germany – One of the Unique Places to See Fall Foliage

The Black Forest in Germany is a magical destination during the fall. The entire forest turns into a golden-orange dream in autumn. To experience all this color firsthand, wander along the walking trails in the forest.

A ride on the scenic train will have you seeing so much more. Or you can choose to drive along the Schwarzwaldhochstraße, which is the Black Forest High Road.

Hands-on heritage fun is available at the open-air Vogtsbauernhof Museum. And make sure you visit different local restaurants to enjoy all the hearty fall meals on the menu.

Alsace Region, France

Do you love wine? Do you want to spend your family vacation during the fall in wine country? Well, the Alsace Region in France is one of the best places to see fall foliage!

All the vineyards turn a golden color at this time of the year. The cool mountain air will feel good, as you realize all the summer crowds have left and you have space to enjoy the tranquility of the area.

Visiting the fairytale towns of Eguisheim and Colmar are a must. And you should make sure Château du Haut-Koenigsbourg is on your list of places to see during your fall foliage family vacation.

The markets in France are always incredible. However, during this time of the year, they all have a harvest theme. So, you will be even more impressed with what you discover when it is time to shop.

Whether you’re craving crisp mountain air, golden forests, or charming small towns, there’s no shortage of fall foliage travel destinations. There are so many fall travel ideas to choose from. Each one will allow you to reconnect, slow down, and make memories with your family. Your next fall foliage vacation is waiting for you. And it is full of adventures, relaxation, and lots of leaf-peeping opportunities.

So, are you ready to have me personalize your family vacation in one of the best places to see fall foliage?

Planning a family vacation with older teenagers or twentysomethings? You’re not alone. Many families are planning multigenerational vacations with older kids. And let me tell you, it’s a whole different ballgame than traveling with little kids! These young adults crave independence, adventure, and maybe even a little Wi-Fi. The good news? Well, with the right approach, you can create a vacation that’s equal parts relaxing, engaging, and memorable for everyone. Today, I am sharing a few of my favorite travel tips for families with young adults. My goal is to help your family connect and actually enjoy each other’s company while on vacations you all love.

Travel Tips for Families with Young Adults: How to Plan a Vacation Everyone Will Enjoy

Travel Tips for Families with Young Adults: How to Plan a Vacation Everyone Will Enjoy

Start with Open Discussions

Begin the planning process by holding an open family meeting. Discuss potential destinations by considering everyone’s interests and bucket lists. This is the stage to brainstorm without restrictions or judgments. You might find surprising overlaps in interests or come up with a completely new travel idea that excites everyone.

Research Together

Assign research tasks according to each person’s interests. For example, one might look up adventure activities like scuba diving or mountain biking, while another might explore cultural sites or music festivals. This approach not only divides the workload but also ensures that each family member’s preferences are considered in the itinerary.

Utilize Technology

Leverage technology to make planning easier. Apps and websites like Pinterest, TripAdvisor, and Google Trips can help organize ideas and build a coherent plan. Creating a shared online document or a Pinterest board where everyone can pin ideas, itineraries, and accommodations can keep the process collaborative and transparent.

Vote on Major Decisions – Best Travel Tip for Families with Young Adults

When it comes to making major decisions like picking a destination or choosing between two major activities, take a democratic approach. Voting on options can help resolve differences fairly and ensures that everyone feels they have a say in the travel plans.

Assign Responsibilities

Travel Tips for Families with Young Adults: How to Plan a Vacation Everyone Will Enjoy

Once the destination is decided, assign responsibilities based on individual strengths or interests. Let someone manage booking accommodations while another handles activity reservations or meal plans. This not only lightens the load for the planner but helps empower young adults by trusting them with important aspects of the travel arrangements.

Respect Their Input

When older teenagers and twentysomethings feel their opinions are valued, they’re more likely to engage positively throughout the trip. Respecting their input and incorporating their suggestions can lead to discovering unique experiences that might not have been your first choice but turn out to be trip highlights.

Keep Communication Lines Open

As the trip approaches, continue to keep communication open. Circumstances can change; interests may shift. Regular check-ins ensure that the plan remains relevant and exciting for everyone involved. Plus, it helps build anticipation for the adventure ahead.

Be Ready to Compromise – A Must-Use Travel Tip for Families with Young Adults

Finally, be ready to compromise. Balancing everyone’s wishes can be challenging, but flexibility is key to a harmonious family vacation. Sometimes you might have to prioritize one person’s preference over another, but if the overall plan is balanced, everyone can have a great time.

So, are you ready to apply these travel tips for families with young adults on your next vacation?

Planning a memorable family vacation where everyone can enjoy themselves can be a challenge. But in 2025, the best destinations for multigenerational travel are making it easier than ever to create unforgettable experiences for the whole family. Today, I am sharing some family friendly vacation destinations with you. These destinations offer sun-soaked beaches, cultural experiences, and outdoor adventures. Basically, something for everyone in your family to enjoy, while creating lifelong memories. Let’s start exploring the top destinations that cater to multigenerational travelers.

Best Destinations for Multigenerational Travel in 2025: Top Family Friendly Getaways

Alaska – Best Destination for Multigenerational Travel in 2025

Best Destinations for Multigenerational Travel in 2025: Top Family Friendly Getaways - Family Near a Glacier in Alaska

One of the best destinations for multigenerational travel in 2025 is Alaska. A vacation in Alaska promises adventures filled with discovery, shared experiences, and lasting memories.

There are quite a few options for how your family experiences this state. You can simply fly to one of the major cities. Or you can cruise to different ports.

If you choose the latter, I recommend small ship cruises. These cruise ships can reach areas where the larger cruise ships can’t reach. Plus, your family will receive more personalized experience options like kayaking near glaciers and guided shore excursions.

Other activities to consider during your family vacation in Alaska include dog sledding, wildlife viewing in Denali and Kenai Fjords National Parks, and guided tours of glaciers.

Another fabulous way to explore Alaska is to take a ride on the Alaska Railroad. This train travels almost five hundred miles throughout the state’s spectacular landscape. Your family can disembark at the numerous stops to participate in activities.

Check out these bucket list destinations in Alaska for your next family vacation.

Galapagos Islands

The Galapagos Islands are a dream destination for many travelers. So, if you are traveling with multiple generations, you might as well choose a dream destination for creating memories!

Once-in-a-lifetime adventures can be experienced during a vacation in the Galapagos Islands. Plus, I can help arrange family friendly and eco-friendly tours for your multigenerational vacation.

Consider a visit to the Charles Darwin Research Station to learn about conservation as a family. Island hopping excursions allow everyone to see more of the islands, while exploring diverse ecosystems together.

Of course, you won’t want to skip snorkeling with sea lions and spending time with giant tortoises while on vacation with your family in the Galapagos Islands.

Use my travel guide to the Galapagos Islands for your multigenerational vacation.

Lisbon, Portugal

Best Destinations for Multigenerational Travel in 2025: Top Family Friendly Getaways - Tram 28 in Lisbon, Portugal

Lisbon is a city that offers charm, cultural activities, and family friendly activities. Which is why it is one of the best destinations for multigenerational travel in 2025.

I recommend starting with a ride on Tram 28 to check out the city’s neighborhoods. This is an excellent way to learn where restaurants and attractions are located throughout the city. After all, you never know when you will see something interesting to return to later.

The whole family will love spending time at Oceanário de Lisboa. This is one of the largest aquariums in Europe. You should plan on spending at least a few hours there, as you all check out the marine life.

A family friendly Fado show is an excellent way to listen to traditional Portuguese music during your vacation.

Banff, Canada

You won’t need to travel too far from the US to experience one of the best family-friendly vacation destinations in 2025. Banff, Canada offers year-round family fun. And this year, there are more family oriented outdoor activities within Banff National Park.

The entire family will love riding the Banff Gondola. Check out incredible views during your ride. There are also interactive exhibits that will capture everyone’s attention.

Everyone should be able to walk the trails at Johnston Canyon. These are easy scenic walks that are ideal for families.

If you want to see this area of Canada from a different perspective, go canoeing on Lake Louise. No matter what you do during your family vacation in Banff, keep an eye out for bears, elk, and mountain goats. Wildlife is everywhere in this area, so it is almost guaranteed you will see something.

Sydney, Australia

Sydney, Australia is one of the best destinations for multigenerational travel in 2025. Although, you can visit anywhere in this country with your family and have an amazing time.

If you want to start your vacation in Sydney on a more relaxed note, I recommend taking a Sydney Harbour cruise. This is an excellent way to see the city’s sights from a different perspective. Plus, you get to relax after your long flight.

While younger kids may not appreciate the cultural aspects of the Sydney Opera House, you should still take the time for a behind the scenes tour. If a performance is happening during your visit, the grandparents can enjoy it one night. Or the grandparents can watch the kids while the parents attend.

A day at the beach is a must while on a family vacation in Australia. Bondi Beach is one of the best beaches for families. While you can spend the entire day on the sand building sandcastles, there are other options. Consider a coastal walk. Or take the family-friendly surfing lessons that are offered.

Check out these other family friendly activities in Australia for your vacation.

Yellowstone National Park

Family Walking Around the Grand Prismatic Spring in Yellowstone National Park

There are sixty-three national parks to visit in the US. However, Yellowstone National Park is one of the best family friendly vacation destinations. This is because there are plenty of activities your family can do outdoors during your vacation.

I recommend taking one of the wildlife safaris to see bison, elk, and bears. The guides will ensure you don’t miss any of the wildlife that lives within this national park.

The kids will love the engaging activities offered with the junior ranger programs. And parents and grandparents will love learning along with the kids or sharing the knowledge they already have.

Some hikes in Yellowstone National Park may be too difficult for older adults or those with limited mobility. Thankfully, you can drive to sights like the Old Faithful Geyser. You will need to time your visit properly though, or you will miss the eruption of this geyser.

Costa Rica – Unique Best Destination for Multigenerational Travel in 2025

Eco-adventures and nature-filled experiences will bring your family closer during a vacation in Costa Rica. The activity that should be at the top of your list during your family vacation in Costa Rica is visiting Arenal Volcano National Park. You can hike along the trails there before soaking in the natural hot springs.

Depending on the time of year you visit, your family may be able to witness sea turtle nesting in Tortuguero National Park. This unforgettable moment happens between July and October each year. However, peak activity occurs between July and August.

Guided wildlife tours are available in the Monteverde Cloud Forest. Ziplining adventures are another option in this area of Costa Rica.

The kids will beg for time at the beach during your Costa Rica vacation. The beach Manuel Antonio is your best option. The kids can play in the gentle waves, while the adults relax on the sand.

Barcelona, Spain

Is your family searching for diverse activities for your multigenerational vacation in 2025? If you are, I recommend adding Barcelona, Spain to your list of places to visit. Barcelona offers a vibrant mix of architecture, culture, and beachside fun.

Adults can wander around Park Güell to see the whimsical designs of Gaudi. The kids can climb and play during this time, so they won’t be bored as the adults marvel at what they see.

When everyone gets hungry, I recommend going to La Boqueria Market. This market has a lively atmosphere. And you can try many of the local delicacies, which ensures you will no longer be hungry. Oh, and those samples may get your kids to try new foods they wouldn’t try back home.

If your family has the energy to stay out later one night, head over to the Magic Fountain of Montjuïc. The light and water show at this fountain will captivate the attention of everyone in your family.

There will be plenty of time for you to lounge on a beach while on a family vacation in Barcelona. However, the most family friendly beach is Barceloneta Beach. So, you may want to choose to visit that one the most during your vacation.

Check out the best things to do in Barcelona during your multigenerational vacation.

Hawaii

Multigenerational Family on the Beach While on Vacation

All the Hawaiian Islands are perfect for family vacations. However, it is important you decide which Hawaiian Island is perfect for your multigenerational vacation in 2025. I usually recommend Maui and Oahu. But we can discuss which islands will best fit your family’s needs.

Pearl Harbor Memorial is usually one of the favorite attractions for a Hawaiian family vacation. This tour will share many invaluable insights into that historical time.

Interactive experiences showcasing Hawaiian traditions can be seen at the Polynesian Cultural Center. And there is no better way to explore the Molokini Crater than going on a snorkeling adventure.

Surfing is a popular activity in Waikiki, and the rest of Hawaii. Adventurous members of your family will want to take lessons, while the others sit back and watch.

Rome, Italy

Imagine visiting a destination where you can experience the past each day, while enjoying delicious cuisine in between each stop. It is completely possible when you choose to take your multigenerational vacation in Rome, Italy. Plus, this best family friendly vacation destination promises enhanced guided tours and family friendly museums for 2025.

I recommend having me secure your spot for a Colosseum tour while I am planning your multigenerational vacation. This will ensure you can skip the line when you arrive. And you will get to enjoy an interactive tour filled with gladiator stories that will thrill each family member.

I can do the same for Vatican City, so you don’t spend most of your time waiting in line. This will give you more time to admire the Sistine Chapel and St. Peter’s Basilica.

A bike ride through the Villa Borghese Gardens will allow you to see a beautiful spot in the city. I recommend bringing a picnic lunch with you to extend your time in these gardens.

There are plenty of cooking classes you can take while on a family vacation in Rome. If your kids are old enough, you can all take one together to learn how to make fresh pasta.

London, England

Harry Potter fans will love going on vacation to London, England. So, if your kids are hesitant to spend time with you and their grandparents, tell them you are going on a Harry Potter adventure. Their moods will change dramatically. Especially when you have me schedule a Harry Potter Studio Tour for your family.

I can also arrange tours of London, so you can all see Big Ben, London Eye, Buckingham Palace, and Kensington Gardens. Over at the Tower of London, take the interactive tours to ensure history is brought to life for your family.

A day of rest can be experienced in Hyde Park. You can all enjoy a family picnic or go paddle boating.

Orlando, Florida – Popular Best Destination for Multigenerational Travel in 2025

You must have known that Orlando would be on this list of best destinations for multigenerational travel in 2025. After all, it is home to Disney World and Universal Studios.

There are new attractions and activities coming to both these theme parks in 2025. Grandparents will feel nostalgic, as they take the grandkids on the rides they took you on when you were little. Teens will love the thrilling ride options. And you will all stand and wave, as characters walk by during the parades.

Over at Discovery Cove, you can swim with dolphins and snorkel in tropical lagoons. Creating memories will be easy when you take the time to visit with the marine life at Discovery Cove.

There are plenty of nearby attractions to consider when you take a family vacation in Orlando. Kennedy Space Center is one of those attractions. This is an excellent option for anyone who dreams of flying to the moon one day.

Check out these amazing things to do in Orlando during your next multigenerational vacation.

When it comes to planning a memorable vacation that caters to all ages, the best destinations for multigenerational travel in 2025 offer something for everyone. These destinations create opportunities for families to bond, learn, and relax together. Whether your family prefers cultural experiences, outdoor adventures, or simply soaking up the sun on the beach, these family friendly vacation spots ensure every generation has an unforgettable experience. I recommend considering these remarkable destinations to create lasting memories that will be cherished for years to come.

Garlic has been around for at least six thousand years. It has come quite a distance from its native Asia. This pungent seasoning adds quite the flavor to many different types of cuisine. People following the Mediterranean diet use garlic the most while cooking. If you don’t cook with garlic, attending a garlic festival can help you find ways to add this ingredient to many of your dishes.

China ships the most garlic worldwide. However, South Korea, India, Russia, and Egypt ship it out as well. Many people choose to eat lots of garlic, because it is a known source of vitamins A, B-1, and C. It is also full of magnesium, calcium, and iron. This smelly herb can lower cholesterol and high blood pressure, while also allowing a person to overcome colds and fatigue.

While you may use garlic for some of your daily cooking, you may not know everything you could about this amazing superfood. This is where the many different local garlic festivals come into play.

National Garlic Day is in April. However, many garlic festivals are not held on that day. This means you can enjoy a garlic festival or two throughout the year as you travel for a culinary family vacation.

Garlic Festivals to Visit During a Culinary Family Vacation

Old Mistick Village Annual Garlic Festival

Garlic Festivals to Visit During a Culinary Family Vacation - Olde Mistick Village in Mystic CT

Attending the Old Mistick Village Annual Garlic Festival in Mystic, Connecticut is quite fun. You will find everything garlic related in Olde Mistick Village.

Farmers bring garlic, and fresh produce, to sell, while local restaurants serve up some tasty foods filled with garlic. Add in all the shopping opportunities and you will have a day-long event to keep you busy.

Stop into Clyde’s Cider Mill to watch apple cider being made. Then grab a gallon or two to take back home with you. Or drink while eating a slice or two of pizza from Mystic Pizza.

Midwest Garlic Festival

The Midwest Garlic Festival is in Terrapin Park in Elizabeth, Illinois. This free event allows you to purchase garlic from local farmers, as well as the fresh produce they bring.

There are many food vendors sharing how to prepare different foods with garlic. Many of those foods are for sale.

Music plays in the background, as you are wandering around, so do not be surprised if you start dancing with others who are in attendance. Although, your kids may roll their eyes, as you dance with strangers during your family vacation!

Maine’s Garlic Festival

Maine’s Garlic Festival is at Lake George Regional Park. When you are not enjoying the garlic and other foods, you can spend time playing a few games or listening to music. There is also an art exhibit to wander through before you leave.

I can easily add this garlic festival to your itinerary for your family vacation in Maine.

Gilroy Garlic Festival

Garlic Festivals to Visit During a Culinary Family Vacation - Gilroy Garlic Festival in California

The Gilroy Garlic Festival is at Christmas Hill Park in Gilroy, California. This outdoor festival offers more than two tons of garlic within the food that is served. There are also three stages of live entertainment, arts and crafts vendors, and a children’s area.

Of course, there are so many other activities you can do with your family while you vacation in this area of California. Allow me to personalize your itinerary, so you create memories to cherish for a lifetime.

Want to experience a culinary family vacation internationally? Check out these festivals in Ireland!

Minnesota Garlic Festival

The Minnesota Garlic Festival is on the McLeod Country Fairgrounds. This is a family-friendly event that is full of garlic, food, and fun!

The farmers within this state grow more than seventy different varieties of garlic and it is used in everything there, including ice cream. You may want to skip tasting the ice cream, but honestly, you should try it! You may be surprised at just how good it is.

Check out the culinary scene in Portland during your next family vacation.

China Bend Winery Garlic Faire

The China Bend Winery Garlic Faire is at the China Bend Winery in Kettle Falls, Washington. This garlic fair has been going strong for more than twenty years now. When you are not tasting the garlic, you can listen to music and drink some fine wine.

And since this is a winery, the kids will have plenty of space to play and have fun on their own during your family vacation.

Asheville WNC Garlic Fest

The Asheville WNC Garlic Fest is at Sow True Seed in Asheville, North Carolina. Garlic ice cream, garlic fudge, garlic cookies, and honey fermented with garlic are available to eat.

Make sure you check out all the food trucks, so you can find the garlic foods you love the most!

Click here to see all the amazing things you can do with family during a vacation in Asheville, NC.

These are only some of the local garlic festivals in the US throughout the year. While none of them are on National Garlic Day, you can still enjoy garlic when you attend any of them. If you are looking for something different on your next culinary family vacation, you may want to visit an area near one of these garlic festivals. I can personalize your itinerary, so you have an amazing family vacation while making memories with the people you love!

As you probably already know, Alaska is a massive state. There is no way you can see it all during a one-week family vacation. It is tempting to spend your time in one of the larger cities like Juneau. However, I would like to urge you to consider destinations like the ABC Islands for part of your family trip. After all, you want to choose destinations that will have you creating amazing memories with your family!

Visit the ABC Islands During Your Family Vacation in Alaska

What are the Three ABC Islands?

Admiralty, Baranof, and Chichagof are the three islands that comprise the ABC Islands within Alaska. These islands are at the northern end of the Alexander Archipelago. This archipelago is on the southeastern coast of the state.

Most people see these islands as their ship sails through the Inside Passage. You won’t be able to tell one island from the other. After all, there are hundreds of islands. But Baranof and Chichagof are the largest ones.

All three ABC Islands are protected lands. There is plenty of wildlife roaming around each of the ABC Islands.

Check out these other island vacations for your next epic family trip!

Admiralty – The Closest of the ABC Islands

Visit the ABC Islands During Your Family Vacation in Alaska - Grizzly Bear

Admiralty Island is only fifteen miles from Juneau’s coastline. It is the best place to visit if you truly want the opportunity to see a grizzly bear.

There are more than sixteen-hundred of these furry wild creatures on this island. So, the chances are excellent you will see one up close during your visit.

Booking a tour is necessary for visiting this island. Only a specific amount of people allowed on this ABC Island per day.

Baranof

Visit the ABC Islands During Your Family Vacation in Alaska - Totem Poles in Sitka National Historic Park

A trip to Baranof will have you arriving in Sitka. You can only reach this major island city via cruise ship, ferry, or small airplane. So, plan your trip accordingly.

Once you are on this ABC Island, you can explore all the history at Sitka National Historical Park. Learn about different cultures at the Sheldon Jackson Museum.

Don’t skip visiting St. Michael’s Orthodox Cathedral.

You cannot leave this ABC Island until you have visited the wildlife at the Alaska Raptor Center. Approximately two hundred injured birds are cared for at this center. Many of them will be released back into the wild.

A few of the birds are permanent residents though. You can get closer to those animals than the ones being released into the wild.

It is important to note that many festivals and other events take place on this island throughout the year. If you do not have your heart set on specific travel dates, you may want to plan your vacation according to the timing of the Alaska Day Festival, Sitka Summer Music Festival, Sitka Whalefest, or other events that are happening on Baranof.

Reasons to Visit Alaska During the Fall for Your Family Vacation.

Chichagof

Hanoof is the primary village on the island of Chichagof. There are so many unique things to do on this ABC Island.

I recommend stopping at Icy Strait Point first. But you won’t want to miss the sights and sounds of this destination.

After a stop in Icy Strait Point, you must venture over to the Huna Tribal House. This is a permanent Tlingit clan house. It is the only one on the island. The others were destroyed more than two hundred years ago.

The Alaskan Bush People, a television show on the Discovery Channel, was filmed on Chichagof. The Brown family lived off the land on Chichagof Island before relocating to the state of Washington.

After a long day in Chichagof, you will be more than ready for a cold brew. I recommend visiting Icy Strait Brewing for one of Alaska’s handcrafted beers. You can also get a bite to eat at this brewery. Past guests highly recommend the Alaskan smoked fish board.

Now that you know everything you need to about the ABC Islands within Alaska, you can easily incorporate a trip to any of them during a family vacation in this state. I have a few hidden gems I am ready to share with you when you are ready to have me personalize your next family vacation.

Everything you need to know about taking a family road trip in Alaska!

So, are you ready to have me create a personalized family vacation itinerary for your next trip?

If you said yes, I would like to invite you to click here to schedule a personalized family vacation planning session with me. Clicking this link will take you to my digital calendar to schedule a time that is convenient for you.

As a travel professional, I value amazing family experiences. The moments spent in awe of a beautiful view. A priceless piece of art. Or the wonder and pure joy on the face of a child as they experience something new and exciting are worth far more than the price of admission. Incredible family experiences, not things, are what make us richer.

Amazing Family Experiences, Not Things, Make Us Richer

How We Spend Our Time and Money

We all have a limited amount of time and money. Most times, you will be faced with the dilemma of what is the best way to spend, or to INVEST, both of those resources.

You could choose from an endless assortment of high-tech gadgets. Or sparkly things and material luxuries that will impress your friends and family are always another option. And your children have gaming systems, toys, and fashion labels they want for their next birthday or holiday gift.

But once you’ve purchased the latest iPhone or pair of expensive shoes, how long do they last? How long will they continue to bring joy?

Now compare these gadgets to amazing family experiences. Experiences can be short-lived. But they enrich our lives in ways a new flat screen TV just can’t. Yes, watching the big game or the cliffhanger of your favorite tv show on 82″ of 4K vivid color awesomeness will be fun. However, is it likely to make a difference in your life?

Choosing Amazing Family Experiences

Instead of purchasing the latest tech gadget or big screen television, I recommend planning a fabulous vacation packed with family friendly activities. Choose to make memories you will cherish forever. This is a better plan than purchasing those $300 Nike sneakers your child will toss in the corner of their closet in less than a month.

Hawaii

Stand with your family above the clouds at the summit of a dormant volcano in Hawaii. Visit at night, to see the Milky Way sparkling above in the inky darkness.

Now, an early morning visit will have you watching as the first dot of red light first appears in the eastern sky. Ribbons of red, yellow, and orange light will begin to flood the crater of the volcano in front of you. When the sun fully rises, look out into the distance and see the beautiful and rugged coastline of the Big Island of Hawaii.

Doesn’t this sound like an incredible family experience everyone will love? On a side note, you can also get close to wildlife during a family vacation in Hawaii!

fog over the mountains

Europe

Spend the day wandering the European town or village your ancestors called home. Take a cooking class in the home of a native and learn to prepare a local delicacy. Laugh with your family as you attempt to speak phrases from the local language. Or at each other with flour on your faces as your hands roll out sticky dough.

There are so many incredible family friendly activities in Europe that I can add to your travel itinerary. I recommend taking advantage of as many as you can, so you can make those memories that matter.

Africa

Maybe you and your family are more adventurous. If you dream of trekking in nature, check out Dian Fossey’s beloved mountain gorillas in Rwanda. Have an unforgettable experience of sitting with them. Hear them communicate with each other. Looking into their eyes equates to much more than material riches. Follow that up with a safari to see “the big 5” in their majestic natural habitats. End the trip with a relaxing stay on one of the most picturesque and idyllic beaches on the spice island of Zanzibar.

Amazing Family Experience, Not Things, Make Us Richer - Mountain Gorilla

These amazing family experiences may be short-lived, but they will change you for the better. They will bring you together. And they will create memories that will live in your hearts and minds forever. Each one will live on as your loved ones say “remember when..” long after you are gone.

Even if your family’s vacations aren’t as elaborate as these, the time you spend together relaxing and enjoying each other’s company will be worth far more than any gadget ever will. The memories you create will be truly priceless. You will treasure them more dearly than you will any physical possession.

So, are you ready to start enjoying amazing family experiences instead of things to make your life richer?

If you’re ready to start having these enriching experiences, schedule a personalized family vacation planning session with me. When you click this link, you will be taken directly to my digital calendar to schedule a time that is convenient for you.

Are you ready to put something more than presents under the tree for the holidays? Are you searching for a gift that will allow you to have memories forever instead of something that’s tossed in the trash in a year or two? Well, a family vacation is going to be the perfect solution! The kids will love getting away from home. And you will too, as you all explore different destinations. If you decide to travel during the holidays, you may be able to participate in a few amazing Christmas traditions around the world. These Christmas traditions may then become staples in your household. Unless you are still taking family vacations over the holidays. Then you can incorporate them in each new destination you visit.

Amazing Christmas Traditions Around the World to Experience During Your Family Vacation

See the Advent Calendars in Germany

Okay, so I know you are aware of all the Christmas Markets in Germany. And how you can take a river cruise to see many of those Christmas Markets. But did you know that advent calendars in Germany date back to the 19th century?

At that time, Germans created twenty-four chalk lines on a door frame. They rubbed off a chalk line each day leading up to Christmas. Those chalk lines were replaced by paper advent calendars and eventually the calendars with doors filled with candy.

A family vacation in Germany during Christmas may have you seeing massive advent calendars on the facades of buildings. Hattingen and Bernkastel-Kues are two cities that have the best advent calendar facades.

Oh, and don’t worry. You can still purchase a chocolate filled advent calendar for the holidays. There is nothing wrong with something sweet in between all the adventures your family will be having!

Celebrate Noche de las Velitas in Colombia

One of the brightest Christmas traditions around the world is Noche de las Velitas, or Night of the Little Candles. This celebration is what starts the holiday season in Colombia. The locals light candles inside patterned paper lanterns to brighten up their homes.

If you can’t get to Colombia to experience this Christmas tradition, you will find something similar in Santa Fe, New Mexico. The Farolito Walk on Canyon Road is just as bright.

Give Away Poinsettias in Mexico

Amazing Christmas Traditions Around the World to Experience During Your Family Vacation - Christmas Poinsettia

Poinsettias bloom during the winter months down in Mexico and other areas of Central America. There is a Mexican legend that shares how a little girl offered baby Jesus weeds at the Christmas Eve service she was attending. As soon as she placed those weeds next to the baby, the bright red flowers appeared.

Since then, poinsettias have been referred to as Flores de Noche Buena, or Flowers of the Holy Night, in Mexico.

While you can share poinsettias with others back home, get into the holiday spirit with your family by doing this down in Mexico.

Take a Swing at a Pinata in Mexico

Another fun Christmas tradition in Mexico is taking a swing at a pinata or two. The type of pinata you will see the most during the holiday season is a seven-point star. Those points represent the seven deadly sins. Once those seven points are broken, it is said that the people are representing their faith in God.

These pinatas are always filled with candy, peanuts, and fruit. So, there will be something yummy for you to snack on when the fun is finished.

Can’t go to Mexico for the holidays this year? Purchase a pinata to bring this Christmas tradition to your home.

Evict the Brooms and Mops in Norway

Do you try to forget you own a mop and broom? Well, if you choose to take a family vacation in Norway on Christmas Eve, you can hide those items for a day or two.

According to Norwegian folklore, the locals hide their mops and brooms so evil spirits can’t use them to fly through the sky. After all, they need to keep the flight paths clear for Santa’s sleigh!

Celebrate with Saint Nicholas in Germany

Children in Germany get gifts from Santa and Saint Nicholas during the holiday season. Saint Nicholas arrives on December 5th to leave small presents in the shoes of the children who have been well behaved. These presents usually consist of fruit and coins. But chocolate in the shape of golden coins has been known to appear in the shoes too.

A child knows they are on Saint Nicholas’ naughty list if they receive sticks and twigs in their shoes instead of presents.

Find the Christmas Pickle in Germany

No one is quite sure how the tradition of finding the Christmas pickle hiding in the tree started. Many people believe it is a German Christmas tradition. However, there is some doubt behind that.

It doesn’t matter how or when this Christmas tradition from around the world began. All that matters is the first person to discover the pickle receives an extra gift, as well as good fortune for the following year.

Exchange Books in Iceland

Amazing Christmas Traditions Around the World to Experience During Your Family Vacation - Books to Exchange on Christmas Eve in Iceland

Does your family love to read? Or do you want your kids to read more?

Well, one of the Christmas traditions in Iceland is exchanging books on Christmas Eve. The rest of the evening is then spent reading those books. Either aloud or to yourself, as you snack on sweet treats.

This is an excellent option if you get to stay home and have a little family time on Christmas Eve. Or when you are in Iceland and want to “do as the locals do”.

Celebrate the 13 Days of Christmas in Iceland

Another one of the amazing Christmas traditions around the world is the thirteen days of Christmas in Iceland. On the thirteen nights before Christmas, children place their shoes by the window. One of the thirteen Yule Lads will then visit each night to place candy in all the shoes of good children. The bad children get rotten potatoes in their shoes!

Guess that’s why you will see all the children in Iceland acting very well behaved during your family vacation there!

Eat a Little Fruitcake in Egypt

Are you a fan of fruitcake? Most people aren’t. And many people would prefer to use this cake as a doorstop than attempt to eat it.

So, you may be surprised that fruitcake is a tradition that began in Egypt!

Egyptians did not celebrate Christmas. However, they did make fruitcake to drop down into tombs. The way the Egyptians saw it, fruitcake was one of the must-have foods in the afterlife.

Want to give fruitcake another try? Check out this recipe and see if it changes your mind about this Christmas treat.

Spend Hours Eating Christmas Dinner in Ukraine

Ukraine isn’t a destination you will be visiting this Christmas. However, you can still participate in one of their Christmas traditions.

In Ukraine, the locals sit down to a twelve-course meal to celebrate Christmas. Each one of those courses is dedicated to one of the twelve apostles.

A few of the dishes included in the courses are:

  • Kutia
  • Borsch
  • Holubtsi
  • Herring
  • Varenyky
  • Ukrainian Christmas Bread

Make some of these dishes at home this year and enjoy a traditional Ukrainian meal on Christmas Eve.

Try to Avoid Bad Santa in Austria

If your family loves Halloween, you may want to visit Austria for the holidays. This is when you will discover Bad Santa roaming the streets throughout Austria.

Masked people can be seen portraying Bad Santa. And their goal is to scare the bad boys and girls. One of the best places to see multiple Bad Santas at once is the Krampus parade in Vienna.

Receive Gifts from Belfana in Italy

Christmas is held on the eve of January 5th in Italy. That is when Belfana enters the homes through the chimneys to leave presents for the families. Instead of cookies and milk, the kids leave Belfana wine and local food items.

Visit the Yule Goat in Sweden

Amazing Christmas Traditions Around the World to Experience During Your Family Vacation - Yule Goat in Sweden - Gavle Goat in Sweden

The Yule Goat has been a Christmas tradition in Sweden since ancient pagan festivals. However, instead of a man-goat from the past, a straw goat is now created each year.

You will find numerous Yule Goats throughout Sweden. However, the largest is Gavle Goat in Castle Square. This massive straw goat is more than forty-two feet tall and twenty-three feet wide. It always weighs more than three and a half tons.

The straw goat is constructed and ready for the first Sunday of Advent. It then stays in place until after the New Year.

Enjoy a Barbecue Under the Pohutukawa Tree in New Zealand

Ready to get away from the snow and cold for the holidays? Well, it is summer over in New Zealand and Australia! So, maybe that is the perfect destination for your family vacation at Christmas.

If you do decide to spend your time in New Zealand, you will find yourself seeking the shade from the Pohutukawa trees. These trees bloom bright red just in time for the holidays.

Find a grill near one and enjoy the sunshine, shade, and warm weather, as you celebrate new traditions with your family.

Celebrate the Festival of the Holidays at EPCOT

You don’t need to travel too far from home to experience many of the Christmas traditions around the world. Disney’s EPCOT has a tradition where they hold an International Festival of the Holidays. This starts around Thanksgiving each year. And it ends on December 30th

During this magical time, you can experience all that EPCOT normally has to offer. But then, there is also a Candlelight Processional, Holiday Kitchens, Glimmering Greenhouses, and a Holiday Cookie Stroll. Oh, and you won’t want to forget to tackle Olaf’s Holiday Scavenger Hunt!

Spending time at EPCOT is magical at any time of the year. However, the magic really takes over during the holiday season.

Here are some of the other Christmassy towns in the US you may want to consider for your next family vacation.

These are some of the amazing Christmas traditions around the world you can experience during your next family vacation. There are many others I can share with you if you need other options for the perfect family vacation over Christmas.

So, are you ready to book a family vacation to experience one of these Christmas traditions around the world?

The EPCOT International Food and Wine Festival is a sought-after destination for foodie families. This year, there are new epic adventures being added to this spectacular festival at Disney’s EPCOT. Kids and adults will both want to join in on the fun between the end of July and the middle of November. Hey, if you plan your trip right, you may be able to combine the magic of the food and wine festival and the holidays at Disney! Keep that in mind, as you see what new epic adventures are going to be waiting for you at the EPCOT International Food and Wine Festival this year.

New Epic Adventures at the EPCOT International Food and Wine Festival

Brew-Wing Lab at Odyssey

Have you ever wanted to do a few experiments with The Muppets? Well, you can when you head over to the Brew-Wing Lab at Odyssey.

There you can join Dr. Bunsen Honeydew, as well as his assistant, Beaker, in the Muppet Labs. They spend their days creating beverages and scientific snacks. While you won’t be able to do the actual creating, your family can offer to be taste-testers.

Just think about how you will feel sampling concoctions that include a Pickle Milkshake and the Unnecessarily Spicy Yet Extremely Tasty Scotch Bonnet Pepper-Curry Wings. Maybe the kids won’t be such picky eaters after this new epic adventure!

Additional Global Marketplaces

New Epic Adventures at the EPCOT International Food and Wine Festival - Germany Pavilion at EPCOT

This year, your family will find more than twenty-five Global Marketplaces for your dining pleasure. Old favorites like the Fry Basket and Flavors from Fire will be returning.

However, there are plenty of new Global Marketplaces to check out. And this fall, four more will be added to commemorate the Disney 100 celebration.

The new Global Marketplaces will include Swirled Showcase, Bubbles and Brine, Wine and Wedge, and Char and Chop.

Such deliciousness all in one place for your dining needs!

New Merchandise for Souvenirs

You can’t spend time at any of the Disney parks and not take home a souvenir or two! And this year, you will find new souvenirs to choose from at the EPCOT International Food and Wine Festival.

Some of the new options include a track jacket, mini backpack, and stemless wine glass. Okay, yes, that last one should be on every mom’s list to buy!

New Live Entertainment

You may need a break at some point during your visit to EPCOT for this festival. That’s okay, because they have you covered! Simply head over to listen to live music during one of the Eat to the Beat Concert Series sessions.

You must reserve your spot in advance for these performances. I can help you do just that, as I am personalizing your family vacation itinerary. All you need to do is let me know you want to attend a performance and I will take care of the rest.

These are some of the new epic adventures you will find when you attend the EPCOT International Food and Wine Festival with your family. They won’t be the only adventures you have during your Disney family vacation though. I will plan many others for you, so you make as many memories as possible during this family trip. I recommend grabbing the grandparents and other relatives to really make this a vacation to remember!

It shouldn’t be surprising that the fireworks at Magic Kingdom are popular. Most people are willing to stay at this theme park until the very end of the day to watch the magic light up the sky. So, what can you do to make the most of your firework’s experience at Magic Kingdom? Well, I came up with a few of what I consider the best tips for watching fireworks at Magic Kingdom with your family.

Best Tips for Watching Fireworks at Magic Kingdom with Your Family

Choose the Best Spot

Okay, so you won’t really be able to avoid the crowds during the fireworks at Magic Kingdom. But you can do all you can to make sure nothing is blocking your view of the nighttime magic.

I recommend standing behind the statue of Mickey Mouse and Walt Disney for the best views. Don’t stand right in front of the castle, because you won’t get the full view of the sky.

Town Square is another area to avoid, because the buildings on Main Street block a lot of the view. If you can avoid standing near the pole on the second floor of the train station, you can find amazing views from there.

You may want to check out locations early in the day, so you know exactly where you want to go when the time comes to claim your spot.

Arrive at Your Spot Early

Speaking of claiming your spot… It is best to arrive at your chosen spot early whenever possible. You never know how many other people have claimed that spot in their heads. Some people even sit in their spot all day long, so they can watch the parades and the fireworks.

Capturing the Fireworks on Film

It isn’t easy to get the best pictures of the fireworks at Magic Kingdom. Especially when you use your smartphone.

While a DSLR camera will offer the best results, you can change your camera settings too. See if your camera has a fireworks or nighttime landscape setting. Use those settings for better results. You can also manually switch your settings in between pictures. However, that will probably make you miss at least half of the show.

Choose Video Recording Instead

You may prefer to skip the photographs during the fireworks at Magic Kingdom and take a video of it instead. This is what many of the pros do. You can easily take snapshot pictures from the video to use as pictures when you get back home.

Stay at the Park after the Fireworks

Depending on what time the park closes, you may have time for a few more rides after the fireworks end at Magic Kingdom. Or you can grab a bite to eat. The lines will be much shorter at this time, because most people rush out after the sky goes dark.

Check Out the Magic Kingdom Fireworks Dessert Party

If you want to avoid some of the crowds during the fireworks at Magic Kingdom, consider checking out the Dessert Party. There are a couple options, and I can book either one for you as I am personalizing your Disney vacation itinerary. Simply let me know if you want this included in your magical family vacation.

Consider a Sparkling Dessert Cruise

Another option for really avoiding the fireworks crowds is to take a Sparkling Dessert Cruise. You can book a cruise on one of the ferry boats. The boat will take you out onto the Seven Seas Lagoon.

While you are cruising along, you can enjoy a few sweets and beverages.

The only downside to this cruise is you won’t see all the projections on the side of Cinderella’s castle. But you can still hear the music and narration, as well as the fireworks in the sky.

These are my best tips for watching fireworks at Magic Kingdom with your family. My goal is to make sure your entire Disney vacation is full of magical moments like these. This is why I will personalize your itinerary, so your family doesn’t miss out on any of the activities you want to do the most.
