You can drink a beer in your own home or backyard. You can also head out to a local restaurant or bar. But did you know that enjoying a beer is so much better if you choose the right location? On International Beer Day, I recommend venturing out to discover one of the best places to enjoy a beer around the world. This could entail traveling to another state or another country. I don’t know about you, but I don’t find anything wrong with that. Especially if you get a nice cold beer and a relaxing vacation at the same time!

Best Places to Enjoy a Beer Around the World for International Beer Day

Portland, Maine

There are a few cities named Portland in the US. However, if you want to visit one with the most breweries per capita, Portland, Maine, should be at the top of your list! Head over to the Old Port neighborhood to check out the bars. In each one, you will find favorites that include Allagash and Maine Beer Co.’s beers.

Berlin, Germany

It shouldn’t be surprising that anywhere in Germany is perfect for enjoying a beer. As a travel advisor, I can arrange for a beer tour for your vacation in Berlin. Or you can wander around on your own to find your favorite beer locations.

I recommend visiting Brauhaus Lemke. This is the oldest craft brewer in Berlin. You may also want to try out their restaurant and beer garden, Brauhaus Lemke is Schloss.

Lisbon, Portugal

There are quite a few places to enjoy a beer in Lisbon. However, my top recommendation is always Quimera. It is located within an 18th-century tunnel that was used as an escape route for King Manuel II. Another option is to head over to the beer district of Marvila. There are three local breweries in that area. Talk about finding gold when it comes to enjoying a few beers for International Beer Day!

Melbourne, Australia

Vacationing in the land down under gets even better when you choose to head over to Melbourne for a cold beer. There are plenty of bars and breweries in Melbourne. The Catfish is a no-frills bar, while Moon Dog Brewing offers a space surrounded by palm trees. Thunder Road is in the downtown area. It is the perfect spot to grab a Pacific Breeze Aussie ale made with Australian hops.

Brussels, Belgium

Belgium is a small country. But it is huge when you consider its history with beer. The Brussels Beer project started back in 2013. This project will keep you happy during a vacation in Belgium. The reason for this is you can try one of their forty-plus new beers each year. Although, you may want to keep returning year after year to continue trying all the new ones they produce.

Asheville, North Carolina

Back in the US, Asheville is another option when it comes to the best places to enjoy a beer around the world. Dirty Jack’s is an excellent place to begin your beer adventures in Asheville. And if you aren’t satisfied with the number of beer places in Asheville, you can go over to West Asheville for even more.

There are plenty of other amazing places to enjoy a beer around the world for International Beer Day. These will get you started though, so you have an idea when we get together to have me plan your next vacation.

When it comes to booking a vacation, there are so many things to consider. You need to coordinate flights, accommodations, visits to attractions, dining times, tours, and maybe even a little downtime. It can be enough to make you want to tear your hair out and decide never to take another family vacation ever again. But what if you knew the things you were doing that were making booking a vacation harder than it needed to be? Would that be the magic that would have you embracing vacations with your family once again?

3 Ways You’re Making Booking a Vacation Harder Than It Needs to Be

Too Much or Too Little, Research

Research is the key to any family vacation. However, there is the potential to drive yourself nuts by either doing too much or too little research for your next trip. Too much research can have your head spinning as you try to fit as many activities into your itinerary as possible. Too little research, and you may find that you have no clue what you should be doing while you are on vacation. I mean, sitting on the beach 24/7 may sound fabulous to you. But the rest of your family might not feel the same.

Know the Current Health Guidelines

Speaking of research, in recent years, anyone planning a vacation has needed to know the current health guidelines of the destination they were visiting. In some scenarios, this simply means showing vaccination status. In others, it means providing proof of a negative test within a certain number of hours or days prior to clearing customs or boarding a plane.

This may seem like a simple task. However, I know too many travelers who have miscalculated when they needed to take a test. Some people have taken it too early and then were left scrambling to find a test they could get results for in a short amount of time. If you have ever tried to find a testing site at an airport on the day of your flight with guaranteed results in a couple of hours or less, you understand the dilemma. And if you haven’t had the pleasure, consider yourself lucky. It is definitely not the best way to begin a vacation!

Not Working with a Travel Advisor

You can spend hours researching for your vacation and even plan your test down to the perfect times. However, you can avoid both those things and so many other headaches by simply working with a travel advisor like myself.

During a planning session, I can help you determine which vacation destination is perfect for your family. But that isn’t all. I also ask what each family member likes to do, so I can then find activities everyone will love. Add in arranging flights and accommodations, creating an itinerary with the perfect amount of downtime, scheduling tours, and dealing with those pesky health guidelines, and you won’t need to worry about anything. I take over the booking of your vacation, and you simply show up and enjoy yourself during your time away from home.

Now, doesn’t that sound much better than making booking a vacation harder than it needs to be??

So, are you ready to work with a travel advisor to book your next family vacation??

Family vacations can be a lot of fun. But as we all know, not every family member embraces the family vacation lifestyle. There are always groans when certain activities are mentioned. And then you have the kids who don’t want to leave their friends for a week or two. Or their sporting events. The list could go on and on. But what if you could make every family vacation you take exceptional? I have discovered four things you can do to ensure every moment of your future family vacations are spent making memories you want to remember forever.

4 Things to Do to Make Family Vacations Exceptional

Know Your Why

You have heard this before. Whether you are talking about your job, your hobbies, or your vacations. You should always know the reason why you are doing something.

When it comes to the why for your family vacations, you might want to know why you want to visit a specific destination. It might be because of the different adventures you can have there as a family. Or the activities you can do together and even on your own. You may even choose a destination because it is where one of your kids wants to visit.

The options may seem unlimited when it comes to your why. But only you know the true reason for yourself and your family.

Always Invest in Experiences and Not Things

It can be so tempting to purchase a million little souvenirs when you are on a family vacation. If you really want to enjoy your time away from home though, it is better to invest in experiences. So, purchase tickets to go ziplining or swimming with dolphins. You will remember those things much more than the t-shirt that will hit the rag bin in a couple years.

Plus, think of all the future conversations you will have with your kids, as you are reliving all the experiential memories!

Enjoy the Benefits of Traveling as a Family

Traveling as a family is one of the best ways to improve the health of your brain. Learning new skills, seeing new things, and visiting new destinations will allow your brain to thrive.

Think about it. During the week, when you are busy at work, you might feel like your brain is tired. Well, what happens when you are on family vacation? Do you feel like your brain is clear and you can actually think? That is from the exciting new things you are seeing and doing.

Consider Your Family Members When Planning Travel

This probably should have been listed at the top of this list. You should always keep your family members in mind when you are planning travel. Instead of focusing on the destinations you want to see as an individual, it is best to consider where everyone else wants to go as well.

When you are planning a family vacation, sit down with your family. Ask them where they would like to go? What would they like to do? Get a few ideas and then make a decision on a destination that will interest everyone. This way no one will be bored. And no one will be able to say they didn’t get to do anything they wanted during this time away from home.

These are four things to do when you want to make your next family vacation exceptional. As a travel advisor, I can help you accomplish when you may be thinking is impossible. I know what questions to ask, so I know exactly what each family member expects from a family vacation. I can then work my magic to create an itinerary that your whole family will love.

So, are you ready to book an exceptional family vacation?

Planning an international vacation can be a daunting task. That alone is why I always say it is best to work with a travel advisor like myself when you are traveling. However, even when you are working with an expert like me, it is best to be aware of certain things before traveling internationally. After all, it is much different exploring another country than it is wandering around a new city in the US. So, if you are ready to board a plane and visit a new country, here are a few things you must know first.

10 Things You Must Know Before You Take Your First International Vacation

Always Do Your Homework

You must learn so much about the destination you plan on visiting when you are traveling internationally. Your homework will begin with where you should stay. From there, it will turn into finding restaurants and the attractions you must visit.

One of the easiest ways to avoid doing homework for your trip is to let me do the work for you. Imagine having me do all the research and making the reservations. You can simply continue on with your busy life and go on vacation with everything you need in one handy packet.

Determine if You Need a Visa

You already know that you need a passport when you take an international vacation. But did you know that you might need a visa as well? Not many people think about this, especially if this is their first time traveling internationally.

Start by checking to see if the country you are visiting requires a visa. If it does, you must fill out the appropriate visa application and send it in with a photograph and the current fee. Some countries will allow you to do this process online. Others will request that you visit their embassy.

Be Prepared for Longer Flights

A flight to Europe or even Australia is much longer than the flights here in the US. I recommend bringing an e-reader that has plenty of books and magazines downloaded. An eye mask can help block out the light when you want some shut eye.

The most important thing though is to make sure you stay hydrated. Drinking lots of water might mean getting up to use the restroom more. But moving like that is an excellent way to keep your blood flowing during the flight.

Consider Your Flight Times

Now that you know you will be up in the air for quite some time, as you are traveling to your international destination, you must factor that time into your vacation. There is no point in flying for eight hours if you only have three days off from work.

I also recommend considering what time your flight takes off and lands. Then plan your first day around the fact that you may be exhausted from not sleeping on the plane. Jet lag is quite real!

Learn a Little of the Local Language

You do not need to know how to speak the language of the country you are visiting fluently. It is nice to know a few words though. I recommend beginning with hello, goodbye, please, and thank you.

A translation app on your phone can come in handy for all those other words you won’t have time to keep straight.

Embrace the New Foods

New foods will be everywhere when you take an international vacation. Even if you are a picky eater, this will be the time to embrace all those new foods. The local foods are one of the best things about traveling to other countries.

Don’t worry, most countries now have the same fast-food chains we do. So, you can always grab a little comfort food when a local meal doesn’t appeal to you.

Be Realistic When Planning Your Itinerary

You may think you can get up early in the morning and see a couple dozen attractions before falling into bed late at night. That type of packed schedule will catch up with you though. And you will hardly appreciate any of the sights you are seeing.

The same holds true if you are trying to see multiple cities within a country. I always recommend spending a few nights in each city, so you can easily adjust to the culture. Plus, the extra time allows you to really experience the attractions and activities in each area.

Culture Shock Happens

All foreign countries have their own customs and traditions. When you are traveling internationally, you must keep in mind that you can have culture shock. Certain countries may still think that women are not equal to men. The different cultural attitudes of the locals in some countries can take a little to get used to. This is one thing you should definitely be prepared for when you are traveling.

Make Your Health and Safety a Priority

The government always keeps a list of the countries that are currently not the safest places to visit. You will want to keep an eye on those lists, so you can make sure you stay as safe as possible when taking an international vacation.

It is also an excellent idea to purchase travel insurance when you are traveling internationally. This insurance will allow you to be treated for any illnesses or injuries you may have when away from home.

Group Tours are an Excellent Option

If this is your first international vacation, you may want to consider joining a group tour. The tour guide will make sure you have an authentic experience while keeping you safe. Plus, the guide can be the person making adjustments if something goes wrong.

These are the ten things you must know before you take your first international vacation. If you use these guidelines, you will have a wonderful time when you are traveling internationally. As a travel advisor, I can help you with them all, and offer other suggestions along the way, when I book your international trip for you.
