France is known for being a romantic country. Especially when you take the time to roam the streets in the city of Paris. However, when you are looking to take a family vacation in France, you need something other than romance. After all, you don’t want the kids gagging and rolling their eyes all day long as you and your spouse kiss and hold hands. Anyway, I have discovered one of the best things to do with kids while on a family vacation in France. You can easily visit some of the storybook towns. These towns will keep the kids occupied. They may even inspire them to use their imaginations instead of their cell phones. And you will still find some of that romance you may desire. Today, I am going to share some of the storybook towns you should visit during your next family vacation in France.

Visit These Storybook Towns During Your Next Family Vacation in France

Briançon, Alps

The highest city in France is Briançon. It sits at an altitude of four thousand three hundred fifty feet. There are many buildings that are considered UNESCO World Heritage sites in this city. The best place to check out in this storybook town is the parish church from the 18th century. I recommend visiting this town during the winter months. It is near the Serre Chevalier ski resort. So, you can ski and enjoy your storybook views at the same time.

Hunspach, Alsace

Hunspach is the favorite village amongst the locals. You will find this town near the border of Germany. A visit here will have you walking along the streets as you gaze at the houses complete with flower boxes.

Storybook Towns in France - Bayeux Normandy

Bayeux, Normandy

This small town in Normandy offers a mix of emotions. This was the first town liberated after the Allies landed on Normandy Beach in 1944. The highlight of this storybook town is the Norman-Gothic Bayeux Cathedral. Just don’t miss out on the World War II cemetery during your visit.

Vézelay, Burgundy

If you want to see panoramic views of the Burgundy countryside, you must visit Vézalay. Head over to the Vézelay Abbey to check out those views. Of course, there are plenty of other things you can do while visiting this medieval town. I can easily plan your entire day for you!

Castelnou, Pyrenees

If your family loves traveling back in time, a trip to Castelnou in France is a must. This storybook town is a medieval village that has been carefully preserved. Walk along the narrow streets before climbing the hill to see the castle. I recommend visiting this charming village during the holiday season. Their annual Christmas Market is one of the best in the country. Plus, all the holiday décor adds to the ambiance of the area.

Conques-en-Rouergue, Aveyron

There are quite a few storybook towns in Aveyron, but none of them are as stunning as Conques-en-Rouergue. While a visit to the Abbey Church of Sainte-Foy should be on everyone’s list, there is one other thing you should do while in town. That is dine at the Michelin-starred La Table d’Hervé Busset.

You can all try new foods while talking about what you have done so far during your family vacation in France.

Carcassonne, Languedoc

Storybook Towns in France - Old Town of Carcassonne

Most people choose to visit Carcassonne to see the citadel from the 10th century. And who can blame them since it has ramparts and a drawbridge? This medieval town is near some of the best beaches, vineyards, and forests in France. Add this storybook town to your list if you want a little of everything during your next family vacation.

Rocamadour, Lot

In Rocamadour, you can see amazing views of the Alzou Canyon. It is easy to walk around the streets in this town because there is only one street. That street is full of religious buildings. The most popular one is the Chapelle Notre Dame. Inside you can see the infamous Black Madonna statue.

Colmar, Alsace

Colmar has long been known as Little Venice. This storybook town is filled with small canals and candy-colored houses. Many people think this town was the inspiration for the village in Beauty and the Beast. This is just a thought, but it is completely possible since Walt Disney used a castle in Germany as inspiration for Cinderella’s castle.

Èze, French Riviera

Instead of vacationing in Cannes or Nice, head over to Èze for your next family vacation in France. This storybook town offers spectacular views of the Mediterranean. I recommend taking a hike to the summit in town to really get the best views.

Annecy, Haute-Savoie

The canals that wind through Annecy are romantic enough. Add the small bridges over them, and the kids will have plenty of Instagram-worthy photos to post. During your visit, you can walk along the cobblestone streets while checking out the pastel-colored houses. Do this while the kids are getting their pictures, and you won’t need to listen to them telling you to stop being all mushy.

These are the best storybook towns to visit during a family vacation in France. If you have never seen these towns and are looking for something different to do during your next vacation, you have finally discovered your solution!

Have you held off planning a spring vacation for your family? It is not too late to get a little downtime and make those memories. I have discovered a few of the best destinations for spring family vacations. All you need is an active passport (Although not a problem if you don’t have one. You can apply for one easily.) and the desire to explore new parts of the world. So, join me as I share some of the best destinations for spring vacations.

Spring Vacations to Plan Now

Riviera Maya in Mexico

The Riviera Maya is one of the best destinations for spring vacations. It isn’t as crowded as Cancun, which is a plus for many busy families like yours. I can find you a five-star resort that has all the amenities you need. Your days can then be spent ziplining, exploring Mayan archaeological sites, and visiting theme parks. In between it all, you can relax on the soft sandy beaches.

Keukenhof in The Netherlands

All types of flowers can be found in Keukenhof in The Netherlands during the spring. You can easily visit all the tulips, daffodils, roses, and hyacinths, even if you are staying in Amsterdam. Actually, I highly recommend this as a day trip for your family. All the other days can be spent exploring the attractions in Amsterdam.

Arrowtown in New Zealand

When you go to New Zealand or Australia during the spring, you will actually experience autumn there. The fall colors are extraordinary in Arrowtown. You can see them as you wander along the streets. We will want to plan your visit for when the autumn festival takes place, which is during the month of April.

Seville in Spain

Seville is a city that can be scorching hot during the summer months. If you want to experience this destination with your family, I recommend heading there during the cooler days of spring. You won’t melt from the heat, and you can attend the Seville Fair. It’s a great way to spend time with the locals.

Spring vacations - Dover Castle in Kent County

Kent County in the United Kingdom

I suggest holding off until May to visit Kent County. It is finally warming up in England during that month. You can start your days by taking a walk through the colorful forest. I recommend sticking to trails that are close to a pub. That way, delicious food and drinks are waiting for you at the end.

Thailand

Thailand celebrates its new year every year during the month of April. The Songkran Festival is filled with numerous celebrations. The most popular is the massive water fight. A visit during this time of the year will also have you witnessing the ritual cleansings of the Buddha statues. That cleansing represents the washing away of sins.

Spring vacations - cherry blossoms

Japan

You can go almost anywhere in the country of Japan during the spring and see cherry blossoms in bloom. The most blossoms can be seen in Tokyo. There you can visit Ueno Park, Nakameguro Canal, or Shinjuku Gyoen to see the trees. I recommend going at night when the lights are on. The cherry blossoms look even better underneath those glowing lights.

Washington, DC, in the US

If you don’t have a passport and want to see some cherry blossoms, you can venture down to Washington, DC, in the spring. The cherry blossom trees line the entire Tidal Basin. Once you have seen the trees, you can visit the monuments and memorials. Or you can wander around all the different Smithsonian Museums.

These are the best spring vacations to plan now. I can make many other spring break suggestions if you don’t have passports for your family or if these destinations don’t check off all the boxes. So, don’t think you are too late! Just don’t delay your planning much longer, or you will need to wait until next year to check out these amazing destinations during your family’s spring vacation.

UNESCO World Heritage Sites can be found scattered all over the world. Out of all the world heritage sites, there are some that are highly underrated. These are the ones that hardly anyone visits during family vacations. This is excellent news if you want to avoid the crowds and see a little history during your next vacation with the kids.

Underrated UNESCO World Heritage Sites You Should Visit

Ningaloo Coast in Australia

When people visit Australia, their first thought is to see the Great Barrier Reef. There is another UNESCO World Heritage Site that should be on your must-see list when you visit this continent, though. It is the Ningaloo Coast.

This coast is known for its rare aquatic life. You will find this coastline over on the west coast of Australia. It is within a remote area. Your family can go swimming and snorkeling amongst all the bright coral. You can even explore the nearby sand dunes and quaint towns.

Garamba National Park in Africa

This national park is actually the oldest one in Africa. You will find Garamba in the Congo. Extensive poaching is threatening this world heritage site. When you choose to take a family vacation in the Congo, you should add this park to your itinerary before it is too late. After all, it is one of the last places you can see giraffes, elephants, and rhinos in the wild in the Congo.

Fatehpur Sikri in India

Most people choose to visit the Taj Mahal when they take a vacation in India. However, when you look at the UNESCO World Heritage Site list, you will see another fascinating location. It is Fatehpur Sikri. This was once an Agra city. It is full of mosques and palaces. It is basically one of the most architectural treasure troves in the world.

Mesa Verde National Park in Colorado

You won’t need to travel out of the US to enjoy this UNESCO World Heritage Site. Mesa Verde National Park has some of the best-preserved Native American dwellings. There are more than five thousand archaeological sites to see while hiking the trails.

UNESCO World Heritage Sites - Plitvice National Park Waterfalls

Plitvice Lakes National Park in Croatia

Plitvice Lakes is actually sixteen different beautiful lakes that are all connected by waterfalls. This national park is considered the most breathtaking destination in all of Croatia. This may be an underrated world heritage site, but it is still visited by thousands of people each year.

Tsingy de Bemaraha Integral Nature Reserve in Madagascar

This nature reserve in Madagascar is full of karst limestone formations, as well as large mangrove forests. Since this is a protected area, the wildlife is quite diverse. If you had tried to visit this area back in the 1990s, you would have been turned away. However, nowadays, you can experience the beauty of this area for yourself.

Gulf of Portico in Corsica

Massive rocky cliffs are everywhere on the Gulf of Portico. Not many people choose to visit the tiny island of Portico. However, those that do will fall in love with the cliffs. Don’t just pay attention to the cliffs, though. The water is just as stunning.

UNESCO World Heritage Sites - Mir Castle Complex in Belarus

Mir Castle Complex in Belarus

There are quite a few attractions to see during a family vacation in Belarus. There is only one that translates to the word peace, though. The Mir Castle Complex is definitely peaceful. The quiet gardens surround the huge fortress. There is quite a mythical history at this castle. Take a tour to learn about it all.

You may want to check out these European castles for your next family vacation too.

Huascarán National Park in Peru

Almost everyone gets excited about visiting Machu Picchu in Peru. During your family vacation in this country, I recommend taking time to see this national park too. You will find the tallest mountain in Peru in this park. Add in the tropical forests and glacial lakes, and you have an amazing place to make memories with your family.

Hanseatic Town of Visby in Sweden

No family vacation in Sweden is complete until you have seen the Hanseatic Town of Visby. Inside this town, you will discover spiraling churches, pointy rooftops, and medieval walls. Basically, think about what towns in fairy tales look like, and that is what you will find! Walking along the cobblestone streets will allow you to transport your family back in time to the days when life wasn’t as busy and hectic.

These are the underrated UNESCO World Heritage Sites you should visit during your next family vacation. There are many popular UNESCO World Heritage Sites your family can see too. I can help plan your entire itinerary, so you can experience your favorite site and the rest of the must-see attractions in the area.
