If you are like thousands of other families around the world, you are getting ready to increase the number of vacations you take. It’s been a long couple of years, staying close to home. Now that you are finally able to go wherever, you are ready to make some memories with your family. I can’t say I blame you! But what should you be expecting from the airlines? Is everything back to normal? Or are there variables you need to be aware of?

Flying for Your Next Family Vacation? What to Expect from the Airlines

It is no secret that demand for flights is high. Everyone wants to reach their destination in record time. But is that really happening?

Well, the answer to that question is yes and no. Some flights are going off without a hitch. Others are getting delayed, or cancelled, left and right. Whether it is due to technology glitches, the weather, or staffing issues is dependent on the flight.

Despite those issues, both American and United Airlines saw record profits in the second quarter. Those numbers are expected to rise even more in the third quarter. This is due to higher ticket prices, which is caused by demand.

The only thing that will affect those rising profits is cutting back on the number of flights available each day. American Airlines CEO, Robert Isom, stated, “We’re sizing the airline for the resources we have available and the operating conditions we face, and we will make other changes as needed.”. This statement is a result of reducing their flying capacity for the remainder of the year.

The reduced flight schedule is the result of a pilot shortage. All the airlines are facing a reduction of pilots, due to long schedules and low pay. The goal is to offer higher wages. However, new pilots are also needed. And those newer pilots need to attend pilot school for the necessary training. That takes time, so it could be a couple years before more pilots are hired and flight numbers are increased.

So, what does this mean for your next flight?

Well, you should already be arriving at the airport early. At least the recommended two hours is best, but I recommend allowing for even more time at busier airports. This will ensure you have time to clear security and have enough time to reach your gate.

Remember, security lines are longer due to reduced staff and new airline protocols. Reduced staff can also mean some of the airport food options will not be available when you are flying. And the lines at the open ones will be super long. You should pack snacks to take with you, so you don’t find yourself starving until you reach your destination.

Of course, arriving early doesn’t mean your flight won’t be delayed, cancelled, or even changed. There is not much you can do when that happens. However, if you book with a travel advisor like myself, I can take care of these dilemmas if they occur. So, instead of spending hours on the phone or talking to airline staff, you can call me, and I will figure it out for you. You can simply relax and think about your vacation. Just don’t think it is ruined, because most of the time these issues can be resolved quickly.

It is always best to read any updated flight information emails you receive regarding your flight. Most airlines have an app you can use as well. This will ensure you know the exact time your flight is leaving. Or if it has been cancelled or changed prior to your departure day.

Flying may not be as simple as it was in the past. But it is still possible to enjoy a flight to amazing vacation destinations around the world. You simply need to be prepared for any variable nowadays.

Planning a family vacation at Disney World can be exhausting. There are so many things to organize. And missing one of those things can create a nightmare when you arrive. While many people seem to arrange their accommodations, dining, and theme park tickets alright, they almost always forget about transportation. And let me tell you, transportation at Disney is a very important part of any Disney vacation. Today, I am sharing the do’s and don’ts for transportation at Disney World, so you can see why planning ahead and being prepared is so important.

Top Do’s and Don’ts for Transportation at Disney World for Your Family Vacation

Always Plan Ahead

When you plan ahead for your transportation at Disney World, you will avoid the headaches you may get, especially during peak times. It is best to know which transportation options are available for the resort you are staying at. Knowing the schedule for each option is also a good idea.

Always Plan for Transportation Delays

Every day, approximately one hundred thousand people visit the Disney World theme parks. And most of those people utilize the park’s transportation system. Therefore, it is best to plan for delays. Do not expect to leave your resort twenty minutes before you want to be on a certain ride and arrive at that ride on time.

Always Be Cautious When Making Reservations

Planning ahead and making reservations for restaurants, tours, and character meals is always a good thing. However, you must keep your transportation options in mind when you are making your reservations. It is best to remember that transportation by bus between resorts is not available. The monorail and boat ride options between those resorts are limited as well. It is best to consider your transportation first and then make your reservations once you have a plan in place.

And for those tours, and other reservations, I would honestly avoid using Disney transportation if possible. Driving your own car and getting free parking at any theme park is an option. Another option is to utilize a ride-sharing app like Uber or Lyft. These options will allow you to arrive where you need to be on time, so you don’t miss out on any of the fun.

Always Arrive at the Bus Stop One Hour in Advance

It may seem silly to arrive at the bus stop one hour in advance, especially since the buses come every twenty to twenty-five minutes. But lines for those buses form early. It may be a couple of buses before you can actually board the bus. By arriving early, you will be ahead of the game instead of potentially being an hour behind if you were to arrive and couldn’t get on the bus right away.

Always Avoid the Buses if There are Other Options

The buses are one of the most popular modes of transportation at Disney. So, it is best to avoid them whenever you can. If you are staying at a resort that offers the boat, monorail, or Disney Skyliner service, I recommend utilizing those transportation options instead.

Always Remember to Travel to and From Disney Springs from a Resort

The buses to Disney Springs do not depart from any of the Disney theme parks. Therefore, you must remember that you must always first travel to a resort to catch the bus to Disney Springs.

Always Walk Whenever Possible

Walking is a must throughout the theme parks at Disney World, so why would I be telling you to walk even more?? Well, walking can save you quite a bit of time depending on where you want to go. There are times when you can walk to your destination in less than thirty minutes instead of waiting for forty-five minutes or an hour to take the bus.

Always Stay Once the Fireworks are Done

So many visitors think the park closes once the fireworks are finished for the night. Most of the time, the park stays open for at least an additional hour. This is an excellent time to go on another ride or two, while everyone else is waiting in line for the bus, boat, or monorail. All the transportation at Disney continues for an hour after closing time, so you will have plenty of time to get back to your resort.

These are the top do’s and don’ts for transportation at Disney World for your family vacation. I can help you avoid many of the don’ts while I am planning your Disney vacation. There are so many options when it comes to planning a Disney vacation. My Disney connections will ensure I plan the best Disney experience for your family with multiple options others aren’t even aware of.
