There are currently sixty-two national parks within the United States. While each one is phenomenal, you may not know that a couple in the southwest are best to see during the winter months. Zion National Park, Grand Canyon National Park, and Bryce Canyon National Park are the must-see national parks in the winter when you are vacationing in the southwest.

Must-See National Parks in the Southwest for Your Winter Family Vacation

Zion National Park

Must-See National Parks in the Southwest in the Winter - Spring in Zion National Park

Zion National Park brings slightly warmer temperatures to those looking to vacation in the southwest. This mountainous area doesn’t see the extreme cold temperatures that other national parks do during the winter months. Despite being warm at this park, you will notice that there is a lot of precipitation. All the snow, and subsequent ice, can close trails for days at a time.

Therefore, it is best to have a couple different backup plans in place if you do decide to visit Zion National Park during the winter months. You won’t regret your choice of destination though, because the views are even more dramatic when snow is settling on the red rocks and the surrounding area.

Love the mountains?? Check out these other family friendly mountain vacation destinations!

Bryce Canyon

Bryce Canyon National Park can be found in the state of Utah. It may be cold inside this southwest national park during the winter, but you won’t notice it. Instead, you will notice all the fluffy white snow in stark contrast to the red rocks. Time inside this national park during the winter will have you experiencing one extreme to the next, whether with the weather or the activities you do.

I recommend packing clothing for the cold and making sure it is all waterproof. These items will ensure you can head out on the trails for skiing, snowshoeing, hiking, and so much more. As we are planning your family vacation in Bryce Canyon National Park itinerary, there is one thing we cannot leave off. That is the full-moon snowshoe hikes. Yes, you will need to plan your visit according to the full moon to squeeze them in. However, it will be worth it for the beauty you see under the stars.

Looking for more winter fun for your family vacation?? Check out these winter family activities in Grand Teton!

Grand Canyon

Must-See National Parks in the Southwest for Your Next Winter Family Vacation - Grand Canyon National Park

The southwest national park can be busy year-round. The winter months do bring slightly fewer people to Grand Canyon National Park. However, all those people are at the South Rim since the North Rim closes during the winter. The weather at this park can change in seconds, so it is always wise to pack for the cold, warmth, and the elements.

You can easily hike the trails within Grand Canyon National Park. But if you don’t feel like being outside for that long, you can always take a bus tour instead.

Check out these amazing family friendly activities at the Grand Canyon!

These must-see national parks in the southwest must be on your list for a winter family vacation! Only you know which one will be at the top of your list. And if you can’t figure it out, let me know. As a travel advisor, I can help you make a decision that your entire family will love!

History is everywhere in Antelope Island State Park, which is why it is a fantastic option for a family vacation in Utah. Fielding Garr Ranch is located in an area of Antelope Island State Park where indigenous people used to live. Mormon pioneers established this ranch back in 1848. They had arrived in the area a year prior and decided they had to stay on this land. Over the years, the artifacts left behind by the indigenous people have been discovered at this ranch. You will also see some of the original buildings still on the foundations they were built on.

This is still a working ranch, and it is the oldest one in the West. It was placed on the National Register for Historic Places back in 1983. You will see so much history from the one-hundred-fifty years that this was a ranch. This is all in addition to the history discovered by the indigenous groups that lived there.

Buildings to See When Exploring Fielding Garr Ranch

Bunk House

The Bunk House is one of the older buildings on the Fielding Garr Ranch. The inside is furnished to look like it did back in the 1960s. This is where all the seasonal hands slept when they were not tending the fields.

Cellar

The Cellar has had many uses over the years. When you are down there, you can use your imagination to determine how it would have looked filled with different types of foods.

Ranch House

The Ranch House contains a kitchen, dining room, Max’s room, living room, south bedroom, and middle bedroom. The kitchen is from the 1970s, while the dining room shows what socialization looked like back in the 1940s. This is where Max, the ranch manager’s young son, slept. This child was twelve years old at the time and would ride his horse when he finished all his work in the fields.

The living room looks like it did back in the 1840s when Fielding Garr lived there. The south bedroom is also from that time period, while the middle bedroom has furnishings from some timeframe between the two bedrooms.

Spring House

The Spring House was the building used to make cheese and to keep other dairy items cold. Once refrigeration was available, this building would have been used to keep food cold.

There is an abundance of history to discover at the Fielding Garr Ranch, and you can see it all during your family vacation in Utah.

Have you longed to take the time to go on a family vacation of the West Coast? There are so many things to see and do in this part of the US, so I completely understand. In past conversations, I have asked people why they haven’t taken the time to explore this side of the country. Many of their responses included the fact they didn’t have time! Well, as a travel advisor, I may not be able to find time for you. But I can make sure you see nine cities in only ten days. Securing a private jet for your family vacation will allow you to visit more destinations in a short period of time. And it won’t cost you millions of dollars either.

Private jets are one of the newer modes of transportation for family vacations. Fewer hassles at the airport, no delayed boardings, and endless opportunities to simply enjoy time together as a family. Making memories with your family doesn’t need to be complicated or time-consuming. It simply needs to be well-planned, so you can savor every moment you have together.

Extraordinary Family Vacation on the West Coast

Napa Valley

With so many places to explore on the West Coast, it can be difficult to determine where to begin. However, I don’t think anyone can find a better destination than Napa Valley. When you are not tasting wines and touring vineyards, you may find yourselves amongst the redwood trees at the Muir Woods National Monument.

San Francisco

Your time in Napa Valley may seem shorter than you would like, but lots of fun is waiting for you down in San Francisco. This is where your family can see the Golden Gate Bridge, Nob Hill, Fisherman’s Wharf, and even the Full House/Fuller House home.

You won’t want to miss a trip out to Alcatraz Island either. The boat ride alone is something your kids will talk about for days.

Utah

It is all about the great outdoors once you get off the private jet near Bryce Canyon. This will be a day to put on your hiking boots. You can follow along the Rim Trail to see the massive rocks. Today is the day to capture a million Instagram-worthy pictures. You should probably get a few of the kids and yourself too!

The following day brings more outdoor family adventures at Zion National Park. The waterfalls of the trails are mesmerizing.

Arizona

Your arrival in Arizona will mark the halfway point of your family vacation on the West Coast. Your time in Arizona will include a quick visit to Antelope Canyon and the city of Flagstaff. Then it’s off to the Grand Canyon to see one of the natural wonders of the world.

Shopping with kids can be fun (maybe), so I can plan for a little time in the stores in Williams. This area is along Route 66, so you can check a couple more travel bucket list items off during this fascinating family vacation.

Unique conversations will be part of your day in Sedona. This is where you will all spend time at Montezuma Castle, Chapel of the Holy Cross, and even looking for UFOs. Imagine what your kids will say at each destination. Especially when it is time to look up at the sky after the sun sets.

Las Vegas

I am not sure who will be more excited about your arrival in Las Vegas. You will love the opportunity to win big on the slots. The kids may just love the vibrant atmosphere of this city that parties late into the night.

When you are not on The Strip, you will be out on a boat on Lake Mead, while admiring the Hoover Dam. Or you may be devouring chocolate at the Ethel M Chocolates Factory and Cactus Garden.

A second day in Las Vegas will have you wandering through the casinos and heading down to Fremont Street. A little ziplining may be in order before you settle into your seats to watch an exhilarating Cirque du Soleil performance.

After the show, you may not be ready for bed. However, a little sleep will be helpful before you board the private jet for one last time in the morning. Your family vacation on the West Coast has come to an end. And yet, you will have tons of memories to look back on from this time away from home.

So, are you ready to have me book you a private jet for a family vacation on the West Coast??

If you said yes, I would like to invite you to schedule a planning session with me by clicking here. When you click on this link, you will be taken directly to my digital calendar to schedule a time that is convenient for you.

The state of Utah has a plethora of indoor and outdoor adventures for families like yours. Whether your family loves skiing, mountain biking, hiking, or off-roading, this incredible state has you covered. This is why you should celebrate National Utah Day in Utah. Or at least visit at some point during the year with your family. While you are on a family vacation in Utah, there are numerous resorts to choose from for your accommodations. Some of those resorts are designed for couples only. Others are designed for all travelers. And a select few have worked hard to be known as family friendly resorts in this state.

The first thing you will notice at this family friendly resort in Utah is the stunning architecture. A lot of thought was used to create the buildings, including the rooms and suites. This resort is close to many of the family friendly activities and attractions in Utah. Therefore, we will need to make sure I book your stay well in advance of your trip if possible. If not, you may not get to stay in one of the best family rooms at this resort.

When you are not visiting Utah Olympic Park or the Kimball Art Center, your family will be down at the pool. Or riding on the private ski gondola.

Hyatt Centric Park City

If your family loves to hike, ski, and participate in other outdoor adventures, you must stay at the Hyatt Centric Park City. This family friendly resort in Utah is centrally located near every outdoor activity imaginable.

During your time at this resort, you will have access to three different alpine resorts. More than eight thousand acres of terrain will be waiting for your family to explore as well. Imagine spending your days skiing, hiking, fly fishing, and snowboarding, depending on the season.
